I was in the process of writing this years anime roundup but realized I actually watched alot of mini-shows, enough to warrant having it’s own separate post for organizational purposes; so yea, here it is.
I’m pretty open when it comes to mini shows, like for something that is 10 minutes or less it’s sometimes surprising the amount of depth and story that can be told, or at the very least, amount of quality waifus and jokes that can be derived. So unlike my usual criteria for watching anime; for mini-shows those rules are basically moot, I watch whatever. Anyways, here we go.
Top Mini Shows (10minutes or less):
17. Sushi Police
While not technically “anime” in the sense of 2d, sushi police was some bullshit 3dcg experiment of some sorts. At the end of the day it was mildly entertaining with the end result being that the sushi police realizing the error of their ways and recognizing all kinds of in-authentic sushi as legit sushi, with the message being along the lines of “you can do whatever you want with sushi, just remember what authentic edo-mae sushi is.” ye.
16. Bananya
Some cute little show about little cats that live if bananas. Ye, I watched this shit. Yep, definitely women authored. There is a whole like of cat loving in this thing and different kinds of cats if your into that kind of thing. Not bad for what it is, no doubt i think to sell character goods and merch.
15. Nyanbo!
So I heard you like cats? How about yotsuba? Box things? Well this thing is basically that, well at least the side story of these pretty famous box-cat things from the manga aforementioned. Pretty good shit. Really good 3dcg seamlessly blending into life action environments and settings. Good voice acting and light-hearted cute fun shit.
14. Wagamama High Spec
A mini-show to promote a ero galge of the same name I suppose, I ended up watching all of this mini-show for some reason, probably because 1. I did not see or hear the main fag guy in the anime. 2. Cute girls. 3. Boobs. 4. Nice fun ending song. So basically it’s a bunch of girls doing cute shit in their club, which is probably the standard make doujin game-game. The above screenshot ironically isn’t from the actual in-show animation but some little ending segment after the credits where they “try to kinda explain the world of wagamama” and use cut outs of the original cg game artwork. Nice boobs.
13. Ooyasan wa Shishunki!
Cute girl is my landlord? Mini-show? I’m in. So basically, this show is about what I just said, some dude moved into a new apartment and his landlord is this cute school girl and also has a neighbor so is also an attractive women. Both the neighbor and dude go about their daily lives but occasionally get pulled into the landlords issues with the end results being humor and mild perversion of course. Not bad but damn the intro sequence is basically as long as the show itself.
12. Pan de Peace!
Bread friends. A bunch of girls through fate are united in school and elsewhere by the strange bond of liking fattening carbohydrates and their consumption. Works for me. Animation is kind of questionable and character designs are like whoa whoa, your eyes are a bit too wide there girls but whatever it’s a mini show, it’s ok to be ghetto sometimes. Bread is food right? Works for me.
11. Tabi Machi Late Show
A series of small shorts, I think this thing only ran 4 episodes of extremely sentimental and nostalgic storytelling, almost as if a slideshow with voice overs. Can this be considered anime? I guess so. The animation is obviously non-existent but the stories are decent so not bad I suppose.
10. Sengoku Choujuu Giga
Another out of the ordinary mini-show about Nobunaga and friends except depicted as animations doing stupid funny shit, dry Japanese style kind of stand up comedy and skits but as animals in this woodblock ink style. Unique? Yes? Entertaining? Yes. Funny? Good enough. Looks good to me. I think this mini-show is continuing so looking forward to more.
9. Fudanshi Koukou Seikatsu
For women but I enjoyed this show mostly due to the fact that the main guy utterly does not accept that he is gay, despite the fact that he loves BL and watching potential gay relationships unfold within his circle of friends and at school. So gayyyy lololol. Such denial. Such Gay. So Faggot. Much Laughter. Ya, this was funny gay shit.
8. Gakuen Handsome
Just look at that screenshot. Just look at that quality. How could I not watch this show? “Handsome School”? 5ever. 5head. A+
7. Ojisan to Marshmallow
Pretty fun show about the old fat guy who likes marshmallows and his female co-worker who is trying to get him. Funny. The girl kinda reminds me of Kaga from boats so ya. Pretty jokes. I like the fact that in some of the earlier episodes they put in some live action segment at the end which I think are the voice actors dressed up in a marshmallow workers clothes or something talking about recipes or something. Cool.
6. Getsuyoubi no Tawawa
I discovered this show rather late in the season, actually about the last week of December. The concept is simple, busy Japanese businessmen and such are stressed as hell on Monday, however, one of the few things that cheer them up is interacting with big boobed girls throughout their daily route. Yea, basically Monday boob show to relieve stress. The main girl is pictured above and has the most stories featured but there are also other boob girls such as boob office lady, boob convenience store girl, boob dentist lady and boob gym trainer girl. From what I read this originally was a web comic that is published online on Monday and only uses blue lines and tones, blue Monday boob I guess. Good animation, attractive girls and unique concept, pretty good, top level waifus perhaps. Good boob.
5. Ani Tore! XX
The popular/famous exercise mini-show with cute girls doing healthy activities returns again and of course I watched this shit. All of the girls from the first series returned with the addition of a new white haired girl that rides a segway, pretty cute and funny. This time around they kind of went for more out of the ordinary exercise shit, like what to do while standing on a train, jogging, skipping rope, stretches and the like. Most importantly, they didn’t use any 3dcg this time so the girls look great all the time. Excellent animation and character designs, great ending song and top level waifus. Good.
4. Tonkatsu DJ Agetarou
Honestly, I am a little surprised myself that I ended up watching this ghetto dj/food show. For what it’s worth, it’s an interesting insight on noob level djing and how to fry excellent pork cutlet. It’s pretty jokes and the character designs and animations are ugly as fuck but whatever, this show knows what it is; a piece of shit; a piece of shit that has it’s moments, so chill out bro. The “CHILL-OUT” episode alone is jokes enough for the price of admission. FUCKING CHILL OUT BRO.
3. Oshiete! Galko-chan
A pretty fun show about a Gal girl and her friends which include, but is not limited to an otaku girl and class chairman type girl. They discuss girl issues and other things that are not openly discussed like boobs, nipple size, pubic hair and other shit. Main girl Galko herself is pretty likeable and often misunderstood for a wild loose girl but is actually a nice good girl, aka “not a ho” despite her looks and her friends are equally entertaining. Good animation, good character design and concept, so I’d like to see more of this in the future maybe.
2. Kaijuu Girls
A mini-show spin off about the ultraman monsters except as cute girls that transform kinda like other sentai power rangers shit. The animation style and mostly full chibi character designs are very well done and very cute/attractive. The story is minimal but done right for what this show is supposed to be. Excellent good fun stupid shit that you can just watch and tune out and relax. Really good op and end song, much style. Hope they make more.
1. Sekkou Boys
And here is it for the best mini-show of the year. Sekkou boys. So fucking jokes I can’t even. Roman/Greek statues as idols? Count me the fuck in yo. The very concept itself is brilliant and works with the whole male idol formula but except with the kind of joke expressions and hyperbole style as you see in the screenshot above. Shit, hope they make more some day. Excellent animation, concept, character designs, story and execution. Laugh that shit all the way to the bank.
Mai full anime ranking of 2016 coming up soon in the next few days or so! Check that shit.
