Winter 2017 anime season begins and this is what we have in store, so far some pretty good shit although some bad shit to balance it out.
Nyanko Days – A mini show about a normal shy girl that has 3 cats, personified as little chibi cat girls. Ok. I guess I am watching this. I am not entirely sure if the 3 cat girls really are “real” cats and only in the main girl’s mind they take on human-like chibi creatures with ears. So basically this thing is just cute cat-girl like things doing cute things living at home, that can talk and such and have personality. Yea. Good animation, decent concept, good character designs, fun. Watch more.
Urara Meirochou – So we have main funny girl, Chiya; she lives in the forest or something. When girls turn 15 some have the option to train to become “Urara” or spirit magical shaman like profession that does fortune telling, see the future or whatever. So main girl turns 15, up to this point she’s been tarzan-ing up in the forest, so she doesn’t know much about the city when she goes there to look for her master to train under. It’s implied that the world that this show takes place in is old-timely, maybe turn of the century? Definitely not modern but it’s basically japan anyways or some kind of alternate fantasy reality. Either way Chiya gets into some trouble in town and as a result she lifts her shirt to expose her belly-button as an act of showing that she is sorry. I did not know at this point that this is what animals did when they want to show a sign of regret or remorse so I was like wtf is she doing? lol Anyways, shit is cute as hell and when people yell at her more, she lies on her back as well, lol nice. Chiya ends up meeting a few other girls who will also be apprentices under the same “Urara” master, also with their own special magical powers or talent and of course all cute girl moe-archtypes. Yea, i’m watching this. Cute girls, excellent animation, character design, funny gags and jokes, pacing is solid and concept a bit better than most slice of life comedy shows. Good shit. Annoyingly ugly looking yellow subs and font however from horriblesubs, Y THO.
Demi-chan wa Katarita – Not sure what to expect from this show, but I was pleasantly surprised with what I’ve seen so far. Basically this is a kind of slice of life comedy that mirrors our modern world and multi-cultural discrimination. Wait what the fuck? Alright shits like this; so we have monsters and shit right? You know they exist and all that but you never really meet any or see them around and because of that everyone ends up making stereotypes and shit about them and end up fearing them as “the other” since they are well basically monsters, of course they are different. Yea. Well main dude of this show is a teacher, let’s just call him Shu, because he’s a winner; he is actually a biology teacher at school and is totally not a wuss or faggot; actually guy is really tall, buff and kinda cool with mild facial hair. He’s a normal dude right? Yea, but as a biology teacher he needs to do some research and shit on “demi-humans” as they call them and complains to his fellow teachers how he haven’t met any before. Cue new teacher being introduced to the teaching staff and she says she is a succubus, guy is like wahtttttt? What ensues is Shu meeting a small number of student monster demi-human girls and he basically talks with them asking; so, your a monster girl; what’s that like? and shit of that nature. The name of this show is basically “Interviews with Monster Girls”, so yea, this is what’s going to happen. The main cast is vampire girl, snow girl, a dullahan girl and succubus teacher as far as I know. Best girl by default is probably vampire girl and succubus teacher. Dullahan girl is so wtf jokes I can’t even; worst girl. If you want to sum it up, this is basically a slightly more intellectually stimulating and much tamer Monster Musume; with a much greater emphasis on slice of life comedy rather than fanservice/boobs/harem elements which from what I can tell, is almost non-existent. Overall this is a good show, good animation, decent-although a bit lacking character designs, good pacing and interesting-likeable characters. Will watch more for social commentary.
Youjo Senki – So you like WWI with a little girl magical solider in a dramatic war military setting that is totally serious? This is for you. So we got war right? WWI to be exact, a period few try to glorify in anime because japan is totally not really important in that war and gets shafted but anyways, this is the setting; at least in a slight alternate-reality for the usual change nation-name and usual bullshit. If your soldiers wears spiky helmets I know you are Germany but whatever. So yea, trench warfare is happening and shit is getting owned. Then some flying air soldiers called “mages” come from the sky and blow shit up on the ground against their enemies; a bit like strike witches flying; similar but different. Show goes on and on about the war, trying to explain the world but kind of fails as its’ boring. Introduced to pro little girl mage solider, commander I think and another girl flying mage soldier her subordinate. Shit happens and basically it’s shown that the little girl mage is super OP “The Devil of the Rhine” and ends up flying around and completely owning them with magical gun blasts explosions and shit. Little girl is super serious and from her behavior is only concerned about rising up the military ranks and winning at all cost, even if it means killing her own subordinates for weakness. So yea, that happened. Yea, I’m not watching this. Shit is way to serious and not to mention overly militaristic. The main little girl is kinda bat shit-crazy serious but her voice is super high animu style which is kinda odd but appropriate I guess. Bland setting, too-war, ugly plain ass-strange looking character designs, decent concept, slow-boring pacing. This might have been much better if they made the designs more better. Not for me.
Schoolgirl Strikers – Animation Channel – So this is another mobile game turned anime production along the same lines of kancolle, ange viere and i’m sure many other shows that I haven’t watched. So we start off with some battle going on in a city, the group of girls all trying to kill this blob monster which looks strangely similar to Gudetama. They are transformed and shit but they look horrible, they have varying weapons like sword, guns, bow, fists, flying guns etc. Yea, cut that scene and go straight to shower scene with the girls discussing their failure to kill the monster and shit. The next thing we see after that is the girls in the school, all gradually meeting one another except in normal school clothes. Once the team of super friends is assembled they go meet Zordon to tell them about the next thing that Rita Repulsa has done in Hill Valley or whatever. The show goes on to explain that the girls are members of The Power Rangers and their mission is to defeat the various Gudetama’s sent by Rita Repulsa threatening their city. There are also other crews within the Power Rangers, such as as group of girls that when they transform, their clothes are maid like, another being with swimsuits. Either way, this is all pretty much bullshit since the pacing is super slow and boring, the character designs of the girls are actually pretty good, but once they transform it turns to shit and they look worse than the Black Ranger. Horrible bad pacing. I know this is a mobile game but that doesn’t mean it has to be a shit show. Bad.
Fuuka – This is a romance show involving a undesirable wussy main guy, a upbeat-sporty girl which is more manly than the main dude and a childhood friend of main wussy dude that ended up becoming a super popular idol and celebrity. Yea. Love triangles and shit. Fuuka is main sporty girl, blue hair, she likes music and shit, listens to only CDs, does not own cellphone. Idol girl is top idol girl, what else do you expect, first episode didn’t even really introduce her; only see through convos through main dude’s twitter chat on his phone. Shit happens and main dude ends up going on a date with Fuuka because she broke his phone, typical romantic comedy tropes endues, at the end of the date the date was good for the girl and she runs off, hinting maybe dude can be her boyfriend. Whatever. This show is shit. I think they are trying to frame the show as met girl in real life, vs met online and knew from the past. Yea. Shit. The opening sequence has all the characters playing in a band, so I guess you can say that there is music theme going on here since other girl is idol and other girls is a fan of idol girl but yea. Shit. Decent animation, boring character designs, boring ass pacing and concept. Bad.
Minami Kamakura Koukou Joshi Jitensha-bu – This show has incredibly detailed and beautiful background art but horribly ugly and dated looking character designs. what the fuck is this? Well, this is ANOTHER show about biking, WHAT THE FUCK. First it was the gay-fest yoshimura pedal, then came moe-girls motorized bikes with Baku-on! to counter it, moe-girls Long Riders! is pretty good cycling show and now we have this show; literally “Minami Kamakura’s High School Girls Cycling Club”. FUCK. Putting aside the basic concept that main character doesn’t/can’t/doesn’t know about bikes at first but eventually loves them and starts competitive cycling, you can’t get any more generic and formulaic than that. Which is where this show starts off at again. The pacing of the show is extremely slow moving with very very dry humor, not even sure you can call it that since I didn’t’ laugh at all. There may be slight women gay yuri mildly implied here since it’s an all girls school but the problem is that all the girls are butt-ugly looking, character designs from late-90’s early 2000 levels done with the quality of 2017; yikes. Not watching this shit, not in this form. Make no mistake, the backgrounds are incredible but it’s sad that they had to be wasted on a show like this. Shit.
