This review of this season of anime is a long time delay coming. As of this writing/post, some shows are almost finished at like episode 10/11 already. Damn. Ahwell, that’s just what happens when the new anime season literally starts when you are still in Japan on a trip and don’t really want to do anything once you get back home for a few days/weeks; add AN and other things happening and you just get lazy and don’t feel like writing. But I did it regardless so yea boi, let’s see what we got this season, or rather, how was this season since it’s basically over already:

Alice Gear Aegis Expansion – I have no idea what this show is about, apparently it’s some mobile game media franchise that no one knows about. A quick look reveals some mecha girls but the episode 0 that I watched seemed like a pure gag jokes anime. Made only for fans of the original source material and it certainly assumes the audience knows all the characters as well. Shit show.

Kanojo ga Koushaku-tei ni Itta Riyuu – Another female focused isekai show where the main girl is reborn as the main villianess in the world of her otome game and instead of accepting her fate decides to get married to the main villian/antagonist of the game/world and defy the path of the game. I mean yea, I feel like I have written this summary description several times by now, you get the drill. Not really enough here for anyone, pass.

Golden Kamuy – Wow, after being delayed a season mid way due to someone on the staff dying, Golden Kamuy is back so yea, not really sure if I should sum it up again but ya, it’s good that this show will resume.

Dead Mount Death Play – The basic premise of this show is alright, a guy who is a demon in a fantasy world gets reverse isekai’d into normal modern day Japan and ends up carrying over his necromancer powers and ends up doing shit. He gets attacked for some reason and yea, more shit happen as assassins end up trying to kill the boy he ended up possessing who died which he has no idea about. This show could have been good but the massive and erratic tone shifts completely make this show a joke and can’t be taken seriously; one second he’s recounting the death of his family, then the next scene after that all the characters are laughing in chibi simple art style cracking some dumb ass joke, then after a moment, goes back to serious time; so weird. Shit show, terrible pacing and tonal shifts, trash.

Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia – A very youth anime for gen Z in which some guy and some girl end up can’t sleep at night and always fall asleep in class. They have bad insomia but one day the boy decides to go to the abandoned telescope room since there is noone there and decides to have a nap; he discovers the girl there already sleeping. The girl argues slightly saying she found this spot first but both end up falling asleep. More shit happens and they wake up. Sleeping friends the anime I guess. To slow and not really relatble to me, some problem youth might find this the hottest shit, but most will find is boring and aimless. Pass.

Iseleve – A pretty entertaining semi-isekai to be honest based on the first episode in which a fat bullied schoolboy ends up inheriting his grandfather’s house and assets to the aghast and surprise of his parents, who disown him. His grandpa was the only one who cared and loved him and left him everything when he died, including his secrets in his house. In his grandpas house, in which the boy now lives in since he is now kicked out of his parent’s home he finds a secret room/door which transports him into another world. He finds weapons and learns the system and spells and shit, after a few sessions going back and forth, he ends up getting a lucky kill on a way higher monster than him and gets lots of exp and loot. When he goes back to the other side to the normal world, he collapses out of exhaustion. When he wakes up the next morning, his body has transformed, he is no longer ugly and fat but now, muscular and handsome looking. Wow. Looks like his GAiNz of getting swole in the isekai world transfer over to the normal world just fine. Among the sea of trash iseki this season, this one is one of the better ones. I might watch more that is, if I remember to download episodes, the name and short form of this show is terrible. Not bad, we’ll see.

Kizuna no Allele – A weird hybrid show between 2d and 3d which literally retired Vtuber OG Kizuna AI is a literal god level celebrity which disappears and people go to school in the metaverse learning how to be vtubers. It’s weird man, it’s kind of self aware but it’s also fictional world in which VR metaverse took off and everyone uses it. There is some weird shit but overall it’s just everywhere and full of itself. Shit show for basally noone except for those trying to cling onto Kizuna Ai even tho he prime has long since past.

Kubo-san wa Mob wo Yurusanai – Another mild light slice of life comedy romance meant for awkward youth. It has some normal plain guy who has no presence who for some circumstances ends up gaining the attention of one of more popular girls at achool and yea, you get the idea. I feel this has been done before but the art of this show is lukewarm at best, if anything, kinda shit. Pass, there are better stuff.

Skip to Loafer – This show is another mild light slice of life mild comedy show except instead of the main boy, there is a main girl who wants to be popular and stand out even though she is plain as hell when starting her new highschool life. Some shit happens and the main plain girl, although she was excited to start going to a new school in the city coming from the country, she gets lots and overwhelmed on the first day. She meets some ‘good’ looking slack guy and he helps her along the way since they go to the same school. Yea whatever, no style, boring premise, poor designs. Pass.

The Marginal Service – Some weird ass hooligan show where public safety and traffic workers become super heroes and fight some kind of monsters and shit. The tone of the show is ass and whatever. The characters are ugly and have nothing memorable. Really ugly transformed clothes since they are just power rangers except traffic safety fighting dumb ass monsters from some evil something. Pass this garbage.

Oshi no Ko – One of the most hyped up and anticipated animes of the year and honestly, it deserves it. The first episode is super special, basically a movie in length clocking in at about an hour and a half which chronicles the story of a doctor who is an idol fan and one day his favorite idol ends up secretly visiting his hospital for some unknown reason. Without spoilers and hindering the full experience, let’s just say this is a story filled with a cast of very interesting characters, beautiful and cute bishojo girls, drama, comedy and probably one of the best if not the best opening songs of the year for an anime, an instant anime song classic that’s reached the top of even mainstream music charts in Japan and for good reason. Top tier animation, pacing, story and creative premise, I fully understand why this was so hyped and it deserves every bit of praise. Let’s just hope that it stays strong into the end and that the actual manga that it is based off of ends well too as it’s still being written; the same author as Kaguya-sama love is war. Good shit. Top shit.

Niehime to Kemono no Ou – Saw some princess and furry fantasy bests. Skimmed that shit for about 30 seconds, yep, nothing worth seeing here. Trash.

Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Bakuen wo! – A prequel of sorts to the Konosuba franchise focusing on everybody’s favorite explosion mage Megumin. While the show itself is nice, it’s not particularly funny but just serves as additional backstory for Megumin and her school days at no doubt, an edgelord magical academy that her people/clan are all about. Only for big fans of Konosuba. I am a casual fan of the series but I didn’t even finish the second season of Konosuba so I don’t really deserve the right to watch this, even though I am familiar. Nice but yea, probably pass.

Kaminaki Sekai no Kamisama Katsudou – The basic premise of this show is that a boy got isekai into another world because his dad was the head of a cult of some god and had him thrown out to sea as a sacrifice or something, saying that don’t worry about it; our god will save you. The boy totally doesn’t believe and basically accepts his pending death but as he falls more and more into the ocean, he hears a voice and he blacks out. He wakes up in another world, seemingly isekai/transported and some shit happens where he is attacked. More shit happens and the God that saved him, his dad’s cult god appears; of course it’s a cute little girl with long green hair. Yea, I didn’t think much of this show after the first episode, but checking back on comments, this appears to be one of the lowest budget and worst animated shows of the year, and I think it’s intentional for comedic effect apparently. It’s one of those cases where the show is so bad it’s good for jokes. I had no idea. Well then, I might watch a few more episodes just to make sure. We’ll see.

The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls – U149 – After a number of years since the first Idolmaster Cinderella girls anime came out based off the mobile gacha game of the same name, we have a sequel of sorts with the U149 subtitle. The U149, apparently is in reference to all of the girls heights, or rather under 149cm tall and you know what that means? Yep, this anime focuses on the much ignored loli girls that were left out of the original anime/game. With a moderate level of popularity even after so many years, Idolmaster Cinderella girls is still strong and popular enough so I guess this anime was a long time coming. The show is well produced and pretty lax chill with not that much drama, at least only on a surface level so I end up watching this after I watch an episode of Oshi no Ko, to return to the world of Seiso anime idols and cleanse lol. Will watch.

Watashi no Yuri wa Oshigoto desu! – Some bitch wants to live the bitch life and just want to find a rich beautiful husband when he finishes school so her entire life is a facade in which she wears a mask and plays the part of an innocent and pure cheerful girl, which is only a means to an ends. She ends up for some reason having to work at a maid cafe of sorts because of some favor/injury to the owner where all the employees are acting like they go to an all girls school and they are all gay and shit. She puts on her act and ends up declaring to be the couple of the most popular girl in the cafe, problem is that the girl actually really hates her because of her fakeness and bitch motives. Drama and such I guess. Yea, not for me, pass.

Dr. Stone S3 – Oh shit, Dr Stone continues right off after the movie/special called Ryuusei. It is absolutely mandatory to watch the Ryuusei special as this S3 continues right off from that. Gud shit, what else is there to say about this show, I’ve come to S3, not point stopping snow!

Opus.COLORs – Gay.

Yuusha ga Shinda! – Dumb show about some random guy that ends up dying and ends up killing the hero of the fantasy world by accident for some reason and comes back possessing the body of the now zombie like hero but everything thinks the hero is fine. Yea, dumb shit. Of course there is some girls or whatever but the premise is boring, main character is a bitch and annoying/scammer so not much here, it’s supposed to be a bit gag and funny but I’m not really feeling it. Nope.

Isekai One Turn Kill Neesan – Another generic show where the main boy gets isekai died/coma and goes into fantasyland but he himself is kinda shit with powers and abilities. For some reason he has the ability to call for his older sister who is of course beautiful and totally obsessed with the main boy for some reason, even though he is an annoying bitch main character. Turns out his sister is OP and super strong in this world and yea, she protects him and kills big monsters, so much so that they think he is the hero or some savoir when it’s really just his sister doing all the work, hence the one turn kill neesan. Garbage trash quality everything, shit show.

Kawaisugi Crisis – A show that is probably not bad, but there is not enough here to warrant more watching really. The show is basically about a bunch of humanoid aliens planning to take over earth and they go check on the planet to make sure there is no creatures worth saving in order to destroy it and harvest it for resources. The aliens go to earth and are not impressed with the humans and the civilization at all, deeming it too primitive, that is until they encounter some cats and cute other animals in which as they proclaim, are the cutest critters in the universe. The main girl alien is all like, ahh yeaa boi, we can’t kill this planet, these critters are too cute, hence the main premise of the show is the main girl alien meeting cute critters and convincing her superiors that the earth it worth saving. On paper this is not bad, but the the production is pretty lacking and pacing slow, there is better stuff this season. Pass.

Mashle – Swole Harry Potter basically. To sum it up, the world is filled with magic and shit but our main boy doesn’t have magic when he was born and adopted by some weak wizard or something. In order to compensate for his lack of magic, his not dad told him to train and get swole. So yea, some shit happens and he is a punch wizard, like one punch man except in a magical fantasy world. The premise is kinda jokes but this is super shonen vibes and I forsee this being a long ass series with no end in sight. The character designs leave much to be desired and kinda eh, not my thing. Pass.

Rokudou no Onna-tachi – So ugly ass anime based on some old manga probably where everyone looks like from the 80’s or 90’s. The style was so off putting I couldn’t stand it and skimmed this shit. Some girl yea, some boy, yea, some gangs or fighting some. Yea. Pass. Not for me.

Megami no Cafe Terrace – I haven’t seen one of these in awhile, a bait ass classic harem anime. Some boy, grandma dies, inherits some inn or housing complex, the housing complex is filled with beautiful girls who all want to be actors or entertainers or something all the while working in some cafe on the ground floor of the building or something. Yea, skimmed this shit. Wow. I am surprised they still make this kind of anime and or adaption. Pass.

Edomae Elf – This is a great chill slice of life show about a elf from another world that came to the human world hundreds of years ago and ended up being a shrine god at the local Japanese shrine for some reason. Oh, for some reason or another, she’s become something of a shut in hikkomori otaku that plays games, collects gacha toys and watches/reads anime/manga. Oh yea boi. Paired with the new high school shrine maiden girl that takes care of her, the show offers a nice chill comedy slice of life experience. While technically kind of isekai, since the elf came from another world, it’s more about teaching Japanese history and customs since the shrine elf has lived for so long, she’s seen things change and whatnot. This is a gud show. Will watch for sure, it meets alot of my criteria. good shit.

Mahou Shoujo Magical Destroyers – I’m not entirely sure what to make of this show. It’s kinda of crazy and everywhere and kinda of hard to follow with pacing issues. The basic premise is that in the near future otaku culture has been banned and cracked down upon, with the Japanese government raiding and destroying akihabara and other otaku things like games, manga, figures, merch in general etc. From the ashes of this reality, a rebellion of otaku emerge to fight the oppressors and the otaku way of life, thus the setting with some magical girls or something, not entirely sure if they are real or just cosplayers and the such. While this sounds not bad, the show just throws you into the world with no build up or character development, It’s a kind of anime you are not sure if what you are watching is a joke or if it’s trying to be serious. The character designs are..unique I guess kinda flat and animation a bit choppy. I’m sure some people will think this is the hottest but I don’t really see the appeal. Not for me pass.

Jigokuraku – Something about ninjas or whatever. Some ninja guy was betrayed and put to death but is somehow magical and can’t die, he’s immortal or whatever. Some more shit happens and he fights or whatever. I have no idea, skimmed this shit. Shit show, pass.

Yamada-kun to Lv999 no Koi wo Suru – A decent female focused romance slice of life show about a girl who had only started playing an online MMORPG cause her boyfriend was into it but when she was dumped for another girl he met online she gets sad and depressed. Some shit happens in real life and ends up meeting a boy and it turns out that he not only plays the same game her her but also also in the same guild, the air-headed pro gamer. Turns out he’s actually a MLG pro gamer for some FPS shit, like Apex or whatever and the MMORPG is just his chill relax game. More shit happens and yea, of course the main boy is handsome but he’s like a quiet boi. The strangest part about this show is that the dude is so young, he’s like in highschool and it seems like the main girl is already a grad, working her first job or something, hmm, ok. Not bad, i’m sure some will like this but it’s a bit too slow and heavy on relationships for me, especially if it’s girl centric. Yea, pass.

Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu – A familiar show that has been popping up lately involving some weird boy and a cute girl in school that for some reason likes the weird boy. Hmm. This time the boy is especially edgelord and chunnubi and has his focus on the class idol/president girl that everyone like and kind of hates her but at the same time, kinda likes her. The girl on the other hand is a bit clueless about him and hardly knows he exists, at least for now in the first episode. The show has interesting character designs, simple but has a it of charm to it. Not bad, but not really for me, pass.

Otonari ni Ginga – An interesting show about a isekai princess or something that ends up wanting to become a manga artist/assistant. The main guy is some manga author who is a single father of two but for some reason he needs help and his assistant like quit or something. His contact/agency sends over this new girl which is the princess and she comes over to his house to help his manuscript and do a all nighter on the first day. Some shit happens and for some reason he touch her her on her hand or tail or something that appears when she was sleeping out of cursity and she gets angry cause whatever he did is basically the equivalent to proposing to get married in her world. Yea, ok, this show is not bad but it’s essentially going to be how the princess manga assistant will become his wife or something of the sort cause of course iti will be. Not bad, but pass for me.

Isekai Shoukan wa Nidome desu – More literal isekai trash. Something about coming back from another world and having to be reborn in the normal world only having to do it all over it again and eventually grow up to go back and be summoned to his original isekai world or something. Trash.

Mobile Suit Gundam – The Witch from Mercury S2 – Oh boy, season 2 of the best new Gundam series is back and it takes place a few days/weeks after where the first season ended and shit is happening. Without giving anything away shit is beginning to happen and it’s all good stuff, a bit confusing with all the company’s and conglomerate names but it’s ok. Good shit, will continue this for sure.

Tensei Kizoku no Isekai Boukenroku – More isekai trash that will be forgotten in a season or two with no lasting impact on the wider anime pop culture sphere. Skimmed, something about reborn whatever inherit skills or memory or whatever from past life as baby. Whatever, trash.

Jijou wo Shiranai Tenkousei ga Guigui Kuru – Another youth show about some weird girl that has dead fish eyes and half of her hair covering her face similar to many other characters. Something about the other kids making fun of her for being quiet and weird, bullied and some other pure boy wanting to be her friend or something. It’s like the characters from GeGeGe Kitaro abandoned the paranormal life and decided to make a slice of life show about making friends and such/mild romance. Nah, not for me pass.

My Home Hero – A not bad show about a man who accidentally became a serial murdered who only wanted to protect his daughter and family from the Yakuza who were targeting her. Alot of shit to unpack here and I am too lazy to summarize but the point of the matter is that the main character is a dad who ends up killing some Yakuza thugs who were using her daughter and in self defense ended up killing them all, which I assume triggers a series of other hits against him and his family in which he ends up killing everyone who tries. The show is not a comedy even tho it sounds like it, it’s serious drama shit which is not bad but it’s too drama serious for me so nah, pass from me.

World Dai Star – A bunch of girls want to be the world dai star, some mega number one idol of some dance troupe set in the 20th century or I guess some alternate reality 1900’s where dance idol troupes like this are the normal. It’s essentially a weird period piece idol show with I assume some drama and mild slice of life but since it’s kind of in the past setting, hard to really relate to. Not entirely sure who this is for. Pass.

Kimetsu no Yaiba – Katanakaji no Sato-hen – Oh boy, Yaiba continues and this time we are going into the third or fourth season, depending if you count the movie/train rehash arc but yea, it takes place right after the entertainment district arc which was pretty damn good. Good shit top tier everything, will watch for sure.

And that about wraps up this spring season, feels a bit weird writing this in mid June but whatever. In terms of shows that I have been following, it’s basically most of the sequels like Demon Slayers, Dr Stone, Gundam, Idolmasters Cinderella Girls, Golden Kamuy but also a few new hot shows like Oshi no Ko and Edomae Elf. Yea, this season has lots of good shit but lots of isekai trash aswell. Hope next season has some good shit, we’ll see.
