Anime Review Fall Season

Fall Anime 2024

I write this review fully knowing that most of the shows this season are almost over or near their last episode, better late than never I suppose. I guess after the ruin of the past couple of months in regards to our world and the US elections have put me off writing anything since September, after that FF7 concert, that and I also started playing Unicorn Overlord, a Vanillaware game that was released earlier this year, it’s good shit but not for everyone, it’s like fire emblem. Well then, let’s see how this season went.

Uzumaki – An adaptation of Japanese horror master Junji Ito best known work. This entire series was released on netflix and is only 4 episodes, full black and white only anime. The first episode was great, well animated and great pacing. After that, the show’s animation gets shit on pretty bad, very low budget with lots of errors and problems and the style issues continue all the way until episode 4, where the style of the show doesn’t even seem to match the character designs of the previous 3. Is is horribad? Maybe, is it worth a watch? Yea, it is, if anything just to see what all the fuss is all about.

Hoshifuru Oukoku no Nina – Some fantasy show about a poor girl who is taken in to pretend to be some princess priest because the real one died and they need to keep up appearances or something for some reason. Not really for me, I think focused for female audience tho, pass.

Raise wa Tanin ga Ii – Girl is from a yakuza family and ends up having to live in some other yakuza’s family for some arranged marriage to some other son of a yakuza boss. She just wants to live a normal life but they just have to keep up the sham for political reasons, for some reasons or another she doesn’t want to be a bitch but when she shows her bitch side, it makes the son love her because he wants a bitch, cause, ya, yazuka I guess but she resists and such. Thus is a show about yakuza and a girl which is mainly for females, pass.

Wajutsushi – Some bullshit forgettable fantasy where the main guy has no power or something but all he can do is ‘talk’ shit or something and can convince people to do stuff, which is basically control/hypnosis, which is not really weak but probably the strongest shit, skimmed this shit, pass, not for rme.

Youkai Gakkou no Sensei Hajimemashita – Joke ass comedy show about a teacher who ends up having to teach a school of yokai and shit as they are troublemakers and just yokai and shit problems. He is like some son of some priest or exorcists so he has power over dem kids, even tho he doesn’t feel like it. Not bad, will watch more, need more dumb light shows like this.

Rekishi ni Nokoru Akujo ni Naru zo – Another one of those ‘i am the villianess’ kind of iseaki shows where the main girl is isekaied into her favorite game from the modern world. The show’s first episode presentation is better than average as it’s presented from the ‘main’ character of the game story and seems utterly generic and such, but after the end it’s shown that the side character is the villain and the narration changes etc. Done before, pass.

Amagami-san Chi no Enmusubi – Some fool has to live in some place and the place is a an old shrine that has 3 sisters who are shrine maidens. You get the idea for this haremish kind of mid show. Pass.

Acro Trip – A show about a girl that likes magical girls but ends up being roped in by the evil organization to help defeat her. On paper this sounds like ‘gushing over magical girls’ but the main girl doesn’t get powers, she’s just a helper/collaborator to the evil organization and the main minion that looks like James from pokemon, she doesn’t even really want to help but has to anyways for some reason; I can’t remember. Mid, animation poor and such and forgettable, pass.

Yarinaoshi Reijou wa Ryuutei Heika wo Kouryakuchuu – A show about a girl who was fighting the ‘dragon emperor’ in fantasy world but gets defeated/killed but ends up somehow sent back in time 6-8 years ago but with her same mind to her 10-year old self where she tries to avoid being betrayed by her future fiancee and stop the ruin in her future, but in the process somehow ends up getting engaged to the ‘dragon emperor’ as his wife even tho she’s still a kid. The show is very erratic in it’s tone, shifting from pure female fan service showing the prince/dragon emperor so funny/charming/cute with talking cute dragon creature and all to like super serious drama/fantasy real-talk to at times even shonen fighting and comedy. It’s a weird show in that regard that is definitely catered towards women but I find it interesting because it moves so fast and it’s premise more unique than most female oriented fantasy shows. Watching more.

Sengoku Youko – Some fox god boi and girl something in a shrine live out their shit because she has to live in this place because something about no family or parents grandma I think. Pass, for women.

Delico’s Nursery – A bunch of fancy noble vampires plot to fight the war with other vampires or other beast werewolf things I think but they still have to look after their young kids or something. Definitely a show targeted towards women so not really interesting to me, pass.

Kinoko Inu – Some show about a mushroom dog that grew from the backyard, be the replacement pet for some poor bastard that just had his dog die or something. Interesting, but nope, pass.

NegaPosi Angler – Fishing angler show about some hooligans running away or some shit from debt but ends up making friends with some outcast group of weird people who love fishing. Shit show, super slow, ugly pass.

Hitoribocchi no Isekai Kouryaku – Isekai trash where guy gets isekaied but only shit skills are left from the god so he ends up taking all of the leftover skills because whatever, god don’t give a shit, he dun fucked up this time. Yea, so so hijinks and journey ensues, mid shit, pass.

Dandadan – Apparently the hottest shit this season about some gal normie girl and some nerdie geek boy go around and solve mysterious about aliens, monsters, yokai, curses and other shit, the boy is cursed in first episode and turns into some berzerk beast thing that can fight and the girl is like psychic/has spiritual powers. While the animation quality is above average and has creepy nuts song opening, this is not for me, they just look too ugly for me and this story seems like a combination of many other popular shit and the pacing is janky and erratic in my opinion, pass.

Kekkon suru tte, Hontou desu ka – Show about two single people who work at a travel agency which declared unless you are married, you will be sent to Alaska to work at their office there. Not wanting to to suffer that fate, two co-workers which hardly interacted with other end up devising a plan to fake be married in order to not be sent to Alaska. On paper this sounds interesting but it’s not that funny and leans more into drama/relationships heavily implying that the two fake couple will end up liking each other and marrying for real. Pass

Mecha-ude – Some bullshit like show about mecha arms or aliens or something that get powers or power rangers shit, whatever skimmed this shit. Pass.

Sayounara Ryuusei, Konnichiwa Jinsei – Trash fantasy show so generic I skimmed it and I still have no stand out highlights. Maybe main girl is lamia snake girl? Other than that forgettable, pass.

Trillion Game – A show that seems based on some old manga about getting rich and gaming the system between a pair of young guys who just joined a company but quit because one is a mad lad and the other is his follower/simp. Pass.

Dragon Ball Daima – The last dragon ball anime based on original work by Toriyama, it’s goku and friends being turned back into kids. Yawn, pass, not for me.

Goukon ni Ittara Onna ga Inakatta Hanashi – A show about a bunch of guys who end up dating a group of girls who work at a butler cafe, as they dress up as men and such and look like bishonen men but they are still girls. The major form of comedy from this show is the guys reacting to how their girl looks like a dude when they are working and is like ‘i’m not gay’ kind of thing. Not really for me, pass.

Mahoutsukai ni Narenakatta Onnanoko no Hanashi – Some magical colorful magical girl bullshit kind of show that is not really a magical girl but fantasy set magic shit, pass boring, not for me.

Ao no Miburo – Some show about shishigumi boiz in the times and I think focuing on okita and friends. Nah, pass.

Maou-sama, Retry! R – The first version of this show apparently aired I think last year or so but for some reason this is like already a remake because the the first attempt at the anime was terrible and the studio tried again and or got another studio to try. It falls somewhere between a remake and sequel but from what I read, this show is shit as they changed the personalities and designs of the characters, whatever pass.

Maou 2099 – A joke ass show that seems like a generic serious isekai but it’s a bit more interesting than that as the main characters is the demon lord from the fantasy world but is reborn hundreds/thousands of years later in what seems like a combination of the fantasy world/japan. In this future world his power is diminished but he finds loyal followers from his time who are also immortal waiting for him, in this new modern world, he ends up resorting to streaming in order to make ends meet and gain influence and power which is pretty jokes. The show features heavily cameos from hololive vtubers Towa on the big screens in tokyo and serving as a inspiration of the main character to get into streaming which is cool. This show is entertaining, will watch.

Party kara Tsuihou sareta Sono Chiyushi, Jitsu wa Saikyou ni Tsuki – A generic fantasy show where the main hero is a healer who gets kicked out of this party for being useless but he is actually op and his old party didn’t even realize it. Skimmed this shit, not worth, pass.

Kimi wa Meido-sama – A show about a cute maid that shows up at some boys house and ends up asking him to work for him, turns out she is actually an elite assassin. Hijinks ensues and standard anime tropes happens which I need more of. Everyone wants to make some edge isekai story but sometimes we need base ass premise that works. Contrary to it’s premise, the show is not formulaic and has an actual story that goes into the maid girl’s past as an assassin and such and the other underworld. The girl is pretty cute and the shows animation/character designs are attractive, the main boy is tolerable but what can you do. Will probably continue and finish this.

Tsuma, Shougakusei ni Naru – The loose translation of this show is ‘my wife an an elementary schooler’ which one might expect is a comedy or some kind of gag show, but no, this show is absolutely serious and is strictly a drama/slice of life sadge show. The main character is the wife of a family but when she died ten years ago, her husband and daughter never moved on and grieved her death for ten years, when she awakens to her past life as a 10 year old elementary schooler, she remembers everything and since she lives in the area of her old family, approached them and yea, was like, hay, i’m mom but re-incarnated now. The show itself deals with all sorts of interpersonal drama and such with the husband, daughter and their inability to move on from the wife’s death and other drama points such as the re-incarnated wife’s new family/mom struggling with life. The show is pure drama but I think it’s worth a watch purely because it’s so different, another show might have taken the name of this show as a joke but this is serious shit. Will watch for sure.

Nageki no Bourei wa Intai shitai – A fantasy show where the main guy just wants to retire from being an adventurer of sorts but because his party back in the old days became legendary heroes he’s now associated with them even tho he’s kind of shit and doesn’t have any kind of powers and strength. His main strength is talking and begging and pretending to be strong and he has this sidekick girl which loves him and such. As generic as they come but I’m sure some people would like this. Pass.

Puniru wa Kawaii Slime – Some weird ass kiddie show that is not that kiddie where some slime monster that was taken in as a pet over the years grew and ended becoming a slime girl and hangs around her owner at school and shit. It’s like for kids but not really? Pass.

MF Ghost S2 – Initial d sequel continues with S2 picking up right of where the first season ended with the really weird ending last episode. Will watch for sure, even though it’s not as good as og initial d, anything is good at this point. They already announced S3 so there’s that.

Well then, this season being almost over as of this writing proves that in general it’s a pretty light season for me in regards to my interests. There is a lot of sequels of shows that I don’t really follow that are very popular but yea, as for new shows, there isn’t a whole lot for me. Even Dandandan is not really my thing, hope that the winter season that comes up soon will yield more good shows.
