Anime Review Winter Season

Winter Anime 2025

As the world continues to be shook by Trump and the dismantling of American democracy and institutions just after a month in power, a pointless trade war with Canada/Mexico via tariffs and the shameful betrayal of cutting support of Ukraine and the treatment of president Zelenskyy, you can count on anime to numb our brains with cute anime girls and isekai trash!  Let’s see what this Winter Anime season has in store for us. Hell yeaa boi!

Mahoutsukai no Yakusoku – Some boring generic fantasy shit, skimmed it, nothing to see here. Pass.

Salaryman ga Isekai ni Ittara Shitennou ni Natta Hanashi – Salaryman from Japan ends up being isekai’ed/summoned into the demon world and somehow becomes employed by the demon lord to fix his kingdom and begin reform of his conquest, trying to run his government more efficiently. This show is alright and has some girls to lead you on to watching more but otherwise feels very familiar to other shows, nothing here that stands out to make me watch more of this. Pass.

Kuroiwa Medaka ni Watashi no Kawaii ga Tsuujinai – Popular girl at school loves being popular and the most attractive, she made it her identity that all the girls want to be her and all the boys want to date her. One day some new transfer student comes and for some reason all of her charms doesn’t seem to work on her, this new boy just doesn’t seem to like her, in fact, he seems annoyed by her. The main premise of this show is the girl and I suppose other girls/rivals showing up trying to woo the guy but at the end of the first episode the guy is revealed to be the heir of a buddist shrine and has been trained to be the head monk one day, leading him to not express his emotions and hide his feelings, turns out the guy does find her really hot/attractive, he just is trying really hard to suppress his emotions. While the premise of this show is alright and can be jokes, the characters are not that great to begin with, the main guy and girl, they are kind of annoying and don’t’ look that great so yea, probably pass.

Botsuraku Yotei no Kizoku dakedo, Hima Datta kara Mahou wo Kiwametemita – Reborn bootleg generic isekai trash trying to be Rudeus or some shit in fantasy world. I saw a comment on subsplease which made me chuckle: “It should be impossible to make a show this aggressively vanilla. I have nothing to say about this show except that it simply exists.” Preach boss, preach.

Hazure Skill “Kinomi Master”: Skill no Mi (Tabetara Shinu) wo Mugen ni Taberareru You ni Natta Ken ni Tsuite – A joke fantasy show where the main guy eventually gets the ability called “Fruit Master” gaining him the ability to make the best fruit ever. Dude is supposed to be trash but ends up eating the magical fruit a second time and gets the skill fruit master, and also the ability to be immune to dying from said magical fruit, which normally a human can only eat one in their life, hence him basically gaining the ability to get unlimited skills by eating magical fruit and grow them too. On paper this sounds like it could be fun but it’s probably just low budget filler trash as comments on subsplease read: “This anime is tolerable only at a faster speed. Since I need to read the subtitles I can only do 1.5x which is more attention than it deserves.” Don’t even watch it then son.

Hana wa Saku, Shura no Gotoku – School girl that lives on a small island in Japan that has a very small population ends up joining the broadcasting club after some shit as she likes to tell stories and do radio shit. Sounds like any other school club anime, the subject matter/club seem espeically boring this time, even with a decently cute girl. Pass.

Izure Saikyou no Renkinjutsushi – Isekai trash, ends up getting skill of alchemy that ends up being the most powerful shit since he can craft shit unlimited now. Subsplease comments: “Kaede is the only reason I watch this failure of anime.” Pretty much, pass.

Magic Maker – Isekai Mahou no Tsukurikata – Isekai magic fantasy learning magic boring slow trash. Comments: “So it finally started, the story is heading to a cliff at full speed without brakes”. Pass.

Ameku Takao no Suiri Karte – This is a good show about a cute girl doctor who solves mysterious hospital cases such as deaths and or cases of mysterious illnesses in the hospital she works at, she is super big brained and thinks she is better than everyone else, she also has a dude assistant that helps as well and keeps her grounded at time from going off the chain at times. In essence, this is basically Sherlock Holmes meets House meets Colombo in anime form with Sherlock being a cute girl doctor, and this is good. Voiced by Ayane Sakura’s iconic high pitched anime girl voice, the main girl is great and the show has excellent pacing and story arcs. Good shit, watching and keeping up with this one.

Honey Lemon Soda – A show about a loser girl trying to make a fresh start once High school begins and wants to get away from her bullies but they are still going to the same school she goes to still. For some reason or another, she ends up befriending the most popular guy in school, the guy that all the girls like and he ends up liking her and encourages her to open up and such and ends up falling in love with him too. The name of this show is in reference to when the girl first met the guy, she accidentally poured Honey Lemon Soda on him or something. Subsplease comment: “Show title alone is enough for a stay away.” Same, pass.

Around 40 Otoko no Isekai Tsuuhan – 40 year old man ends up isekaied but has the ability to teleport/order anything he wants with the power of 1-click online shopping from Amazon or whatever online shopping from his original world having teleported to him. This show is very similar to many other shows and at it’s core is once again all about creative ways to get fantasy elf/monster girl bitches. I find it interesting that the title character is 40+ years old, a decade ago this would have been called 30+ year old something. Heh, I guess even the author’s can’t hide the fact that they themselves are getting old too and self insert. Pass.

Dr. Stone S4 – Oh shit, new season 4 of Dr Stone. This is the America travel arc huh, hope their America in their future is more reasonable than the one we have to deal with today.

Fuguushoku “Kanteishi” ga Jitsu wa Saikyou Datta – Some fantasy shit with mild edgelord elements about skills and shit again, main boy is born with a “appraiser” skill but ends up being the best. Collect the bitches, rinse and repeat. Subsplease comment: “This show is too awful that it’s painful to watch anymore.. The only thing keeping me watch it is for the lolz & how dumb everything is.. 1/10 and even that 1 is too much..” Pass.

Akuyaku Reijou Tensei Ojisan – Old man 52 year old civil servant is isekaied into fantasy royal world but this time as his daughter’s otome game as the vileness. Man, who is this for? Old ass men? Girls? So uncreative and done before. Subsplease comment: “I enjoyed the part about the servants. why’d they make the cat girl french?”. Pass.

Momentary Lily – Another original anime production from studio Hand Shaker, which for years has produced overly detailed and overly produced anime shows with 3d backgrounds and textures that just don’t look good and are too visually distracting to even pay attention to the story/characters at all. This time is like their take on cute girl doing fighting assassin things with mild moeblob but it just feels really weird, especially since the camera is like spinning around them all the time in weird angles when all that they are doing is just talking and shit. Subs-please comments: “Gah, the weird hair jiggle is back! I don’t know why but that distracts me more than the boob jiggle. And the neck ties that don’t seem to obay physics. so this is what ADHD feels like.” True dat, same pass.

Douse, Koishite Shimaunda – Sad girl realizes that she got no man while working as a office lady and realizes that all her life in school she had tons of dudes trying to get her but was too dumb/blind to realize it and regrets its. For some reason or another, she show traces her steps back when she was like 17 or so when all the boys were trying and she didn’t accept any of them. Subsplease comments: “This show makes me so unhappy and angry… She’s got to be the densest bitch I’ve ever seen in anime.” Pass.

Nihon e Youkoso Elf-san – A show about a dude that when he goes to sleep he gets isekaied into a fantasy world and has a good time doing adventure shit and stuff. He has a elf girl friend in that world and his only pleasure from the daily grind is going home and falling to sleep to go back to his fantasy world which he believes is a dream. One day in his dream, his elf girl ends up grabbing him or something and when he wakes up, elf girl is there in the normal world. The basic premise of this show is I think chill with some exploration and mild tourism of Japan but I think there is some more time in the fantasy world that is not yet explored. While on paper this sounds good, it’s very slow and none of the characters are that good or attractive, even the elf girl. Subsplease comment: “Mmm, are we going to get the trope of the villains supposed minion is actually pulling the strings and the real villain?” Pass.

Farmagia – Farm some shit bitch, skimmed this shit, have no idea what it’s about. Subsplease comment: “Is anyone still suffering here?” Nope.

Class no Daikirai na Joshi to Kekkon suru Koto ni Natta – One of those shows that somehow tries to frame arranged marriages in Japan is alright and part of traditional values. Show is about some dude and some girl at school and they hate each other for some reason, just clashes in personality. Turns out that both the dude and girl are both grandchildren of different Yakuza clans and they basically are told later that his grandpa and his grandma knew each other for years but went their separate ways, wants to unite the family as they regret not doing so or something. So the show is basically about the main dude and tsundere girl basically having to live together with a bunch of other side bitches trying to interfere and steal the boy away, supposed to be comedy but yea. Not really my thing, done before. Subsplease comments: “The MC is too good for these bitches. Saitou’s future is bleak being married to Akane.” Pass

Sorairo Utility – Basically Initial G, initial golf as in this is a show about a girl and her newfound hobby of golfing or at least hitting balls at the driving range. The show itself is not bad with decent pacing and attractive likable characters but man, it’s about gold. Unless this shit is happy gilmore, ain’t watching. There is so many gold anime’s it’s kind of surprising honestly. Subsplease comments: “Minami is so microwaveable”. Pass.

Girumasu – Show about a quest lady receptionist tired to do overtime everyday and just wants to clock out at normal working hours. She ends up getting a skill that gives her the ability to weld a giant hammer and super powers, optimal for quests and dungeons fighting monsters/bosses. She doesn’t really care and just wants to live a quiet normal life doing her routine mundane job at the guild. Shit happens and when the hero party is in trouble against a boss, a mysterious adventurer known as the “Terminator” appears and defeats the boss for them. Of course it’s the guild girl and she just wants to get the quest over with. This show is good, the main girl is funny and cute and the premise somewhat unique. The main guy/hero is tolerable. There is actually a story here somewhere and not all jokes, will watch more. Subsplease comment: “I crush over female OP characters. I can’t say the same for male OP characters though. They’re almost always cowards. Like panicking over kissing a girl or whatever.” Preach son, will watch more.

Beheneko – Isekai fantasy but the main guy ends up as a behemoth, but basically looks just like a small cat instead. Maybe he will grow up. The basic premise of this show is that fantasy girl bitches end up loving cat him because he is a cat and ends up in their boobs or etc and or their pet for a time etc. This show has ample uncensored boob and nipples so it has that going for it at least. Subspleae comment: “It would be funny if “magical cats” didn’t actually exist and they were all misidentified juvenile behemoths.” Pass.

NEET Kunoichi to Nazeka Dousei Hajimemashita – Some dude ends up having a ninja girl follow him around and ends up protecting him from monster yokai or some shit at night for some reason it’s not important. She is apparently a NEET and begs to stay at the dudes house to live at, which of course he does all the while she lazes around playing games and does NEET things. A few other ninja girls show up and more hijinks ensues. The show isn’t bad but it could be alot better with better pacing and jokes. The main girl is ok but feels like it’s missing something, the show itself is kind of weird, it’s like episodic in that it’s basically 2 mini shows combined into one, they even show the opening and ending sequence twice midway. Strange. Not bad but not great either, will try to watch a bit more to see if it gets better. Subsplease comments: “Why the fuck are there three OP’s an episode?! All of this for the most dead-eyed fish looking motherfucker around.” We’ll see.

A-Rank Party wo Ridatsu shita Ore wa, Moto Oshiego-tachi to Meikyuu Shinbu wo Mezasu. – “I can’t do this anymore!” Yuke Feldio, a red mage, just left his adventurer A-Rank party.” lol no. Subsplease comment: “I’m more into the type of villian that you can kind of relate to.” Pass.

Okinawa de Suki ni Natta Ko ga Hougen Sugite Tsurasugiru – This is a good show about a lame ass mainlander Japanese boy who ends up going to school in Okinawa and ends up liking some girl but doesn’t realize that it’s her best friend that actually likes him the most. The show is largely comedic and educational aimed at promoting tourism to Okinawa and learning about Okinawan culture and customs, which is interesting to me since it is so different. I had no idea that they have their own language as well, wow. All of the people in this show are dark tanned-skinned except the main land Japanese boy which is a choice for sure but it certainly does stand out, especially when they give some of the girls blonde hair as-well, they just look like gals automatically which I think is also intended lol. The two main girls are cute/attractive and provide decent visual candy and has a pretty nicely animated clear sharp crisp line style, which I like. Subsplease comment: “It sucks that every episode that passes we are forced to see how much better (and cuter) Higa-san is compared to Kyan-san”. Good shit, will watch this show for more

Kimi to Idol Precure – Made for men, made for little girls, pretty cure idol theme. Bringing it back to the core. Back to basics. Subsplease comments: “Do we really need two Precure shows WITHIN THE SAME SEASON? I mean this one is the seasonal one and generally for little girls. The other is a spinoff sequel for the manchildren. If “manchildren” includes faildaughters then yes. Mahoutsukai audience polls 55% female.” Yep.

Kisaki Kyouiku kara Nigetai Watashi – “Duchess Leticia Dorman has been betrothed to Crown Prince Clarke since age seven.” nope. Subsplease comments: “The first episode made me think I’d like this. But there isn’t a single decent male character in this. They’re all stalkers that should be put in prison for sexual harassment by modern world standards.” Yep.

Sentai Red Isekai de Boukensha ni Naru – Red ranger gets isekaid into fantasy world. Is super op, fucks shit up and gets all the bitches. First bitch is standard wizard tsundere girl, onwards towards world domination like kamen rider bitches. Subsplease comments: “This is power rangers. They have a red ranger, a purple ranger, and three blue rangers.” We’ll see, maybe watch more.

Zenshuu – An original anime about an anime director/animator that dies and gets isekaied into one of the favorite fantasy anime movies that was considered shit tier by the media and public but she loves it regardless. Her power is the ability to draw some shit and manifest via drawing storyboards new creatures, weapons and whatnot to fight monsters as she ends up meeting the hero party as they fight against demons and shit. She only does it/works when they are like almost dead. The show itself on paper is creative enough but has major pacing issues and character development issues, like, it feels like no matter what she does, the story is going to follow it’s predetermined path anyways. The character designs are ugly because they are supposed to be ugly but that doesn’t help at all in helping the viewers. Whenever an original anime ends up being about anime production, it always feels to me that it’s just a test/practice project for the studio to see what they can do, very few have made good original stories, the only one that I can think of is Shirobako series, which was excellent. Nice try but boring slow. Pass.

Medalist – An excellent show about a young girl trying to get into competitive figure skaing and be the best even though she is behind everyone else in skill and experience and her new first time coach that struggles to give her the proper advice and get past his past trauma and insecurties. This is a tried and true formula that fits easily into sports shows but because they are cute girls it’s basically like idolmaster really, which is actually a good thing, since I like idolmaster and idol shows. The show has outstanding 3d animation for figure skating sequences and the characters are all likeable and relatable. The main girl is very cute as well as all of the other girl skaters she meets on her journey but also funny too as which some comedy and cute moments splashed in everywhere but also drama moments too to balance everything out. The animation and character design art is excellent, very clean, crisp and bright, very good shit. Even the coach is not bad, he is an alright guy, not hateable at all. Good shit, will watch more for sure. Only on streaming services like Disney+ and hulu for some reason, which is kind of strange.

Sakamoto Days – Netflix anime adaptation that was highly anticipated but when trailers came out, everyone got disappointed because it’s animation quality was not Yaiba or Chainsaw man quality. The basic premise is that Sakamoto is an OP hitman like John Wick but ends up getting away from that world when he meets a girl and gets married/has a kid. He ends up opening a convenience store and lives his peaceful life and ends up super fat, unrecognizable from his prime days. For some reason, his old org wants to kill him since he left the org and put a bounty on his head. The basic premise of the show is various assassins coming in and trying to kill Sakamoto but despite being fat and overweight, still got all of his skills ready and owns all of them, collecting various friends and allies along the way in his path to living a normal life. Sakamoto himself doesn’t say much most of the time which is kind of the point/jokes. The show is a hybrid slice of life action show with jokes, at least that’s what I am getting but people are upset because they read the manga. Apparently this story leans more heavily into the action aspect later in the show and people don’t think this studio is cut out to do it justice. I dont’ know about that but from what I see so far is that it’s def no yaiba or chainsaw man in terms of animation, which is probably why people are upset, it probably could have been. Ah well, I will watch more but if this series goes on long, will probably drop sooner rather than later.

This season has alot of shit, some really good shows like Medalist but some other shit that is down right completely forgettable which means it’s a decent above average season lol. Some seasons there is like nothing but sequels but at least this time we have some good new shit.
