Anime Review Spring Season

Spring Anime 2025

So here we are, about midway-early June on the cusp of summer season, writing my thoughts on the currently almost over spring anime season 2025. Better late than never I suppose, after all, there’s a lot of good shit this season worth taking a look at and I had been busy with other things like trip planning, work, vtuber watching and convention AN writing/documenting shit. But anyways, let’s see what shit is good as this world continues to fall deeper in insanity and madness from the orange TACO man.

Guilty Gear Strive – Dual Rulers – Only for fans of guilty gear, in particular it is a requirement to have at least watched guilty gear strive story movie and some sembelance of understanding of the lore and main story of guilty gear, even a surface level because this show doesn’t even try to explain it lol. Overall good shit, pretty good 3d anime, just like the game, moves the story and world of guilty gear forward post main game story movie. Introduces Unika, which is also a new playable character at the end of the show in GGS, which is only 8 episodes. Since writing this review so late, I have watched all of this show, it is worth it, but only if you are a fan of guilty gear. Good shit. Watched all.

Lycoris Recoil – Friends are thieves of time. – Mini show showing the girls of lycoris recoil doing cute things working in their cafe and other slice of life hijinks. Good shit. I believe this is only a prelude to a larger project they have planned, I can’t remember if it was a movie or OVA/series but they are working on something. Noice. Watched all.

Zatsu Tabi – That’s Journey – A chill ass show about a manga author/university student who had writers block that ends up discovering a new hobby to help her find new ideas, that is to travel around Japan and see, do things. In essence, this is a tourism anime much in the sense Yuru Camp had become over the course of three season but I welcome it, the pacing is interesting and focuses on a range of other characters that are the main girl’s friend which they hardly elaborate on but thats ok. Good chill show, will watch.

Hibi wa Sugiredo Meshi Umashi – Another good chill ass show about a bunch of university girls who end up creating a club about cooking although most of the club members don’t really want to and just want to chill in their own private room/space. They eventually do end up cooking and doing other travel related things together which may or may not involve food, mostly eating, which in a way this show is also a travel japan tourism show, but not as in your face. Overall good shit, all the girls are cute and the designs are nice, reminds me of non non biyori dynamic. Good shit, will watch.

Kijin Gentoushou – Some samurai bait show about some monster demon shit, skimmed, nope.

Summer Pockets – Another story about some guy moving or spending the summer on some remote Japanese island and eventually meeting a bunch of girls where I am sure he will have a fun time. I think this is based on something by Key, aka sad girls visual novel company. Pass.

Vigilante – Boku no Hero Academia Illegals – For some reason they made a spin off of My Heroes Academia but instead focuses on a bunch of outcast wannabe heroes who have kind of shitty powers but still want to fight crime and shit, hence the vigilante in the title. The main guy is kind of bad, the main girl is mid afro and the not-all might is just like a criminal type guy. Not bad, but not great either, pass.

Compass 2.0 – Sentou Setsuri Kaiseki System – Some bullshit that I have no idea about, I think I skimmed this shit quickly. Something about battle and partners. Nop.

Shiunji-ke no Kodomotachi – Some guy is a guy and has a pretty big rich family, all girl siblings of varying ages and personalities/archetypes. On the youngest sister’s fifteenth birthday part there father tells them they are actually all adopted, all not blood related. Hence the premise of the show I suppose, main boy now has a harem of not-sister girls that he can technically get, which is kind of weird but sure. Idea is somewhat unique but pass.

Aru Majo ga Shinu Made – This is a nice show about a girl wizard in training who is told by her master that she has basically a year to live before she rapidly ages and dies because she was cursed at a young age or something. The only way to prevent this and break the curse is to collect ‘joyful tears’ of people that she helps around town and about, 1000 of them. She has or work cut out for her but she tries her best. The premise of this show is actually a lot more light hearted and chill than it sounds written down but this is a nice show. Will watch more for sure.

Ballpark de Tsukamaete! – This is a great show about a girl who start working at a baseball field as a beer girl, walking around the stands of the seats and selling beer. While this sounds somewhat mundane, at it’s core it is a slice of life show with great characters and personal stories each episode, of course somewhat episodic in nature. The main girl is gal-like which seems to be all the rage lately in anime and manga, which I am not complaining about, she’s entertainment and of course upholds regardless the most Japanese value/trait of all time: hard working. Good shit, watch for sure.

Apocalypse Hotel – Some bullshit show, skimmed it. Ugly ass designs, I have no idea.

Haite Kudasai, Takamine-san – An interesting premise show where the main girl can redo actions of the recent past, basically time travel to like a few minutes ago granted she pays for her by stripping and getting down to her underwear/naked which then said undergarments vanish. She uses this ability to become the top student of the school but main boy ends up seeing her use her ability one day and effectively gets blackmailed to become her servant or ‘closet’ carrying around extra underwear and clothes when she strips to user her ability. While interesting and lewd premise, at it’s core this is a simp anime, pass.

Kanpekiseijo – Rich family that is known for producing saints, magical priest like wizards gifted with magic has her world ruined because her fiancee calls off her marriage and her family essentially sells her off to some neighboring kingdom to be wed in a political marriage. Of course she is shocked but accepts it anyways, despite being the most powerful saint of all time. She doesn’t know however that her future husband is like the king or high lord and is a handsome young man. Show for women which is not bad premise, not bad, but pass.

The Beginning After the End – Powerful king dies and ends up re-incarnated as a infant, following the steps for a grand growing up isekai a la homeless reincarnation and many others that came before. Same, pass.

Ninja to Koroshiya no Futarigurashi – Joke ass show by Shaft about a ninja girl who ran away from her village that has the ability to turn things into piles of leaves. She gets picked up by an assassin girl who finds use for her, as she can turn dead bodies into leaves and hence covers her tracks easily. The ninja village have no use for deserters tho so they send other ninja girls to kill her but her newfound assassin friend is OP and just kills them so easily, which is jokes. The show itself is a comedy but coming from Shaft you gotta expect some of those nice angles and cinematic touch. Good shit, watch for sure.

Yami Healer – Edge lord man has healing magic powers and opens an underground clinic where he can heal shit underground. He has a collection of girls of various monster like characteristics that he no doubt picked up and live with him because of course he can. First episode tells me nothing about him other than he can heal and is an edgelord that gets all the bitches, as they all fight in his house about eating all the dinner one of the girls made. Nice, but nope.

Rock wa Lady no Tashinami deshite – Two highschool girls that go to a high class girls school for upper class rich ladies end up finding out that they both like rock music and can play guitar/other instruments which is kind of not allowed. One girl is faking her upbringing, only getting in because of some technicality or scholarship and is a commoner. The other is a legit rich typical ojousama but when she plays guitar she becomes a mad lad brash rocker, which obviously she hides from everyone. This show is not bad, in a way it’s very similar to Kakegurui but instead of gambling, it’s playing rock music that gets these girls going insane. Good show but in a season with a lot of chill shit, I just can’t.

Danjo no Yuujou wa Seiritsu suru – Some relationship drama slice of life comedy show involving some dude who has a best friend since childhood who is a girl which never really sees her as such, even though she’s grown up to be beautiful and one of the most popular girls. He doesn’t think much of it but some random girl then confesses to him and he agrees to give it a go. His childhood friend is like, I’m happy for you, but you know she feels sad about it and ends up trying to get in their way, hence some love triangle hijinks ensues. Nahh, lame not for me.

Bye Bye, Earth – The world is full of furries, they are the majority, or rather, no one in this world is regular human without ears, fur or tails etc. One day a girl is born a full normal human, she is different and outcast, so she ends up going to travel and see the world, maybe find other humans or something. Nah, pass.

Teogonia – Some bullshit that I skipped involving fighting. I have no idea. Pass.

Anne Shirley – Most recent anime adapting Canadian novel series Anne of Green Gables which for some reason Japanese people love. From what I understand, it is/was taught in school, either in English and or Japanese translated so yea, why not I guess. Looks very period and kinda not modern but I suppose that’s how it’s supposed to be. Not bad, but not good either. Pass.

Kowloon Generic Romance – A cool show about a bunch of people living in Kowloon city, or at least what they say is Kowloon, the dystopian mega structure that existed in Hong Kong before it was demolished several decades ago. In this ruined place a romance between a generic office worker and office lady unfolds but something doesn’t seem quite right about everything. Yea, this show is good, filled with drama, mystery and the underlying secret of the place the main characters call Kowloon as home. Not what you would expect based off the name of the show, more mystery than romance, and believe it or not, sci-fi and psychological in nature. Good shit, will watch.

mono – A nice chill slice of life traveling and adventure show by the same author/artist as Yuru Camp. Indeed, in the first or maybe second episode you see cameos of the Yuru Camp girls in the background walking around and passing by as such. The premise is a couple of girls want to create a photography and film club but for some reason or another end up hanging out with the local manga author that writes 4koma’s as she provides them car rides and places to visit for inspiration for her own work. In many ways this manga author character may very well be a self insert which is fine but it’s all good. They end up traveling around japan, eating shit and doing tourist shit, all the good stuff of Yuru camp, minus the camping, pure tourism. Good shit, watch for sure.

Classic Stars – Gay school show for women. Features high school boy students with the spirit of classical artists and musicians. The main character is Beethoven. Nuff said, pass.

Ore wa Seikan Kokka no Akutoku Ryoushu – Man gets re-incarnated as the ruler of a interstellar empire after he dies in the normal world. In his past life, he was a slave office worker who is never home but does everything for his wife and daughter. Shit gets ruined when he finds out his wife has been cheating on him for years and that his daughter isn’t even his, worst yet is the other man is his hated boss. OH GOD SO BAD. From what I read, everything he does as a space emperor leads to peace and prosperity, which is not what he wants in a ironic funny way but man, that backstory so painful. Pass.

To Be Hero X – Some Chinese 3d bullshit which apparently has been a long running series that I don’t care about. Some shit about hero being a celebrity but the real one dies and some random guy ends up taking his place via plastic surgery. Whatever pass chink anime, nope.

Witch Watch – Watching dem witches for sure. A show about a witch girl who must choose a familiar to continue her studies. She fails the ritual but tries more but can’t get it right. Her family childhood friend from way back has orc or oni blood or something, they can get install or some shit to get strong. Some shit happens and the witch girl ends up making a pact with her friend to be her familiar/bodyguard, jokes. Interesting premise but lacking in quality designs and animation. Pass, seen something like this before.

Shirohiyo – Some bullshit show with really little kids with pants that look super thicc, weird. The main boi is a fat fuck kid who is rich, he has to figure out how to cook and do house shit even while fat and look after his younger brother or something. I don’t get this show. Who is this for? Women maybe? Pass.

Kanchigai no Atelier Meister – Useless boi gets kicked out of party finds out that he’s not that useless after all since he can cook, clean, and build shit, he’s good at everything but battle, so hence useless. Pass, generic bullshit.

Gorilla no Kami – Show for girls where the main girl for some reason gets blessed with the power of a gorilla god, to her great disappointment, as it grants her super strength and endurance in battle, shit that she does not want as a cute girl. She just wants to be cute and attractive, she tries to live her days and hides her power and get boys but they all end up as weaklings since she is so strong now. Pass.

Maebashi Witches – In this world witches are like idols. That’s all you need to know really. They have magic but also sing and dance as idols and help people. First episode is horrible, doesn’t explain shit doesn’t even do a good job of introducing the girls.

Chotto dake Ai ga Omoi Dark Elf ga Isekai kara Oikakete Kita – Main boi did it. He went to another world and killed the demon lord and got to go back home to his regular world but along the way he got nice elf bitches that love him and so they follow him back to his world instead. This at it’s core is a boob show but from what I saw I was not that impressed as it’s all censored, no boobs, no point. Pass.

Kidou Senshi Gundam GQuuuuuuX – It’s gundam, what do you expect lol? Watched the movie, can’t turn back now.

So yea, lots of decent to good shit this season. By far the most entertaining is probably all the nice chill shows about food and travel, which had been absent for a few seasons, sad that they all came at once now tho. New gundam is good but we’ll see how things go in the end, things feeling rushed and only like 12 episode season? We’ll see I guess.
