Vancouver Trip 2025 – Day 5

As our time in Vancouver comes to an end, we begin our day in the early morning bright and early. We have to get to the airport as our flight is in the morning so let’s see how our travel day back to Toronto goes; by nature of me writing this, guess that means we are still alive.

It is quiet on the streets of downtown Vancouver, not very many people around at like 6am. It is quite nice actually.

We had walked past this structure several times everyday but only now we notice it, mainly because there is none else around. Wow.

In the downtown streets, even the Apple store is quiet. The only sounds for meters away is the sounds of rolling luggage on wheels, our luggage.

Just like how we arrived, we are going to use the Canada line train to get back to the Vancouver airport. It takes a bit of a walk but it’s not so bad, especially when it’s so early in the morning just like this.

We forgot to take a photo of our luggage the first time, we won’t make that same mistake again.

If you are riding this early in the morning, more likely than not the passengers here are also going to the airport as well or even work at the airport.

After roughly half and hour we are back at the airport terminal entrance for the Canada line, it was just like we were here yesterday.

So empty and dead, wow, early airport is early.

Looks like Japadog has a outpost even at the airport, unfortunately it is part of the airport where after you check in, you no longer have access too, rip.

Now that I have seen all the native art and shit in Vancouver, I am beginning to recognize that everything in this airport has so much of it, or at least trying to incorporate it into it’s art and design. like these blue totem pillars.

Wow, now that we know, Lees doughnuts even has an outpost store in here. Cool shit, I think we should get some to bring back home.

Their selection isn’t as big as the OG location in granville but it’s still good, cool that they have an outpost at all at the airport.

A bit pricey but the quality is worth it. If you are ever in Vancouver or even the airport, I recommend trying Lee’s Doughnuts, it’s honestly one of the best doughnuts that I’ve ever had, blows the water out of tims and krispy kreme even some other artisan places that say they have better shit.

The area we are in doesn’t have Japadog but instead has a Triple O’s which apparently is a Canadian burger chain that exists out here in BC and elsewhere in the west.

The history of this place is kind of complex but from my understanding the actual original restaurant is called White Spot but then they created a spin off that focused on their burgers and named it after their special sauce, called Triple O’s sauce. Sure I guess, confusing but sure.

I am glad that they offer full burgers anytime of the day in addition to having breakfast sandwiches for those like myself who want to eat burgers at like 8:30am like a mad lad. My sister and mom were not that mad lad and just got their McDonald equivalent breakfast sandwiches with hash browns.

I got their double double burger, it certainly isn’t a mcdouble but it will do. But in all honestly, it’s a pretty solid good burger, the beef patties is something between a Wendy’s patty and a smash burger, which is pretty juicy and using real ground beef as far as I can see. With cheese, tomato, shredded lettuce and their O’s sauce, which is very similar to just big mac sauce, which is thousand island dressing. They normally have pickles too but I asked them to take them out, since they are nasty.

Sausage breakfast sandwich, said it was alright my sister said. “It desperately wants to be a burger, not a breakfast sandwich.” is what she said. Hm I guess so, since they are just using their normal burger bread. She also commented that the sausage is Cumberland sausage; probably, which is good, meaning that breakfast sausage here = Cumberland sausage.

My mom’s version with bacon. I think they are roughly the same, she said it was alright. Ok. The fires were not bad, reminds me a bit like swiss chalet fires but the hash browns were not worth said my sister/mom. All in all, it’s a pretty solid good burger, better than most mass chains but not good enough to topple Shake Shack, iN-and-Out or even some of the smash gourmet burger places in Toronto, nevertheless I appreciate it exists as a Canadian burger chain.

The people at the airport know their shit, outside of tons of native totem poles and shit, they also have alot of displays with sea creatures and animals. Indeed, they even have a outpost for the Stanley Park Aquarium that we went to yesterday lol wow and displays like the above.

You can’t escape it in Vancouver, native Haida art and similar looking stuff like it is everywhere.

Vancouver’s airport is not as big as Pearson, but is certainly is more homely looking with the green carpet and wood colored decor. It’s just right in size, no empty wasted space and is quite efficient, not like Pearson which has repeatedly been voted one of the worst airports in the world.

My sister forgot to check-in yesterday at the proper time and got in late. By the time she checked in, they already assigned us seats and we were all separated, ah well, shit happens I guess. Prior, you used to be able to change your seat for no extra cost but these days, you have to pay if you want to change your auto assigned seats, man, travel sucks these days.

Proof of existence, on plane tired not enough sleep edition, going home platinum bonus sitting alone profile.

On the plane they have this new thing where they have cameras mounted on the outside on the belly and on the tail, it’s pretty cool you can see the plane and where it is going in real time. As it can be seen, we are almost there beginning to land.

Almost there. On the other screen you can also see the flight pattern of the plane, I didn’t check it but my sister said that our plane was doing weird circles and shit, trying to delay and waste time since I guess we were too early and another plane was still at the terminal. Perhaps we could have arrived a half-hour earlier or more if we didn’t intentionally need to wait. Who knows.

Arrival is smooth and we get off the plane, it’s a smaller plane this time but it’s alright, most flights in Air Canada domestic now don’t allow carry on for free, you have to pay for it now. But because of this change, most people’s ‘personal item’ has become a large backpack such as my own and as a result there is actually more room in the above storage space areas, which is good. Before, I often had to just have my bag with me below because there wasn’t enough space above, now with this change, there is. Noice.

For once, exiting the plane is smooth and doesn’t require customs for once. I am so used to having to go through customs because I visit other countries that it caught me by surprise that once you get off the plane, you just pick up your luggage and go if travel within Canada. noice.

After a Uber ride back home to my family’s house we successful declare this trip over and complete. Yay, we survived. Check out these Lees doughnuts we brought back, half a dozen.

I forgot the types we picked but I think there is a Ube frosted, maple crunch and some other shit? I forgot, but it’s still good shit. Even their plain sounding signature one, the “honey glazed” doughnut is so good you will be surprised. Good shit.

With that said, after some dinner at my family’s house I went back to my condo and unpacked my shit. This trip didn’t have much merch but just the standard ones you would expect for me, magnets and key-chains, mainly trinkets and shit since I love that shit. Let’s take a quick look at what I got for merch sourvinrs.

Native octopus Haida art t-shirt pretty good, Eagle haida design hat and a vancouver aquarium hat. I don’t wear hats but I do collect them now I guess.

Some bait ass magnets I got, so bait lol. My general preference is the item should have the place/location that I went to and or was gotten at that specific place and is unique/cannot be found in any gift shop. It think all of these pass those requirements, even the fail scam museums I went to.

Keychain trinkets of similar effect. Nice designs and shit. The rightmost 3 in packages can be found elsewhere probably but I haven’t seen it all to often in other stores, nice Haida native art designs. The carving black figure on is the most expensive at like $25 dollars I think from MOA, damn, figures cost money you know.

My Richmond day shopping day haul from the gacha store and that artist alley store. It’s not much but a small constellation for fucking up and missing AniRevo/ hololive world tour concert.

Oh boi, the Vancouver Aquarium has those coin medallions like in other places, gud shit jokes. These are kinda expensive but I can’t resist their existence, it’s trinket collection level is off the charts, just like the ones I got in London.

At the Granville island public market, from that place that we got candy salmon bites, they also sold a boxed version that can be brought home without the need for refrigration, gud shit. Even tho it’s in a box they still wrap it as if it looks like it’s raw fish which is interesting.

I also picked up some other salmon jerky like things for myself in case the other ones from Granville are not good and or for comparison sake. I mean, it’s both so we’ll see if these are better or worse than the Granville ones. I got a few other edible goods but I haven’t posted it since they may end up as gifts for others but we’ll see, yea.

With that said, that ends our Vancouver trip for a few days, yay, noice. Overall I would say that Vancouver is a pretty nice chill city, a very different feel and pace than in Toronto and that’s probably because the wide array of active green spaces such as water, trees and mountains available in the region for people to explore and do outdoors things. Granville island was great, while a touristy place, it deserves a visit if ever in Vancouver simply for the Market. Richmond also was a good experience as it felt like a more mature Chinese populated area with an older history, but at the same time, shows it’s age in places like Richmond public market which is basically falling apart and only exists because of the food court. The Richmond night market was a great experience but honestly I felt it was a bit over hyped, while good, I don’t think it deserves that much attention as it gets internationally. I would not go to Richmond just for this, but if it’s happening while I am in Vancouver, sure why not. The fact that I have to pay money to get in is a bit of a pain since there is only so much time to line up and get in and line up again to buy food. For that price of admission, I expected double the amount of vendors and double the overall event space but it only just met my expectations, I thought it could be much bigger. Chinatown is shit and in ruins which is sad but shows the reality of many areas in urban populations, it’s unfortunate that homeless and hooligan drug addicts had to take over such a historical Chinatown but that’s just how it is sometimes. There is no reason to go to Chinatown just for two decent food places, it’s a wasteland, should avoid unless you like ruin, like me. Gastown is a tourist trap and bait but they kinda need it so it’s fine to me with the steam clock and shit. MOA museum is good but damn it’s too far away from downtown that so few people got there, it lived up to my expectations. Stanley park and Aquarium are good tourist attractions, something for everyone with good views and activities if you want to do that kind of thing. North Vancouver was a bit of a letdown, could have been so much better but hopefully they get better with time/revitalization projects. I like that there is a lot more Japanese and Asian people in general around, it means that they are more likely to be running stores and restaurants that add to authenticity. Most of the food in Vancouver that we had is solid good, nothing super good however which is ok although a few misses like that Mexican dinner and the New Town bakery buns, they were kind of boring mid shit. Din Tai Fung was good, Kirin was good, Joe Fortes was good, Gyu-Kaku were good. Vancouver got good eats for sure, just gotta choose wisely and tons of Asian choices. So then, the big question; would I visit Vancouver again? Yes I would, but only for an event/concert or happening that is time limited; that was supposed to be AniRevo and the Hololive world tour concert this time, but we fucked up so yea, that’s the thing we are missing, real purpose and goal in this trip, there was no goals or missions, just to chill for the most part but I rather have a large event or goal for a reason to travel, not just traveling for the sake of doing something. So despite all that, yea, Vancouver would again, but it’s conditional based on event/time limited event; for this time however; yay mission accomplished, all goals completed; as there really wasn’t anything there to begin to, just like that mall in Chinatown. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
