Cover Art: The band in question here is Solution .45 which is something of a super metal band collaboration project where all of the members are from other bands and yea, they play music and write songs. I suppose you can consider it something like a side project for the band members from their main bands so that they can experiment and do stuff they normally wouldn’t be allowed to in their established bands. This is Solution .45’s second album, their first being For Aeons Past, which came out a number of years ago which I remember was pretty good. It’s interesting that they have the sub title of “Part I” meaning that this implies there will be at least a part II, which from my understanding, is to be released sometime this year, so that’s cool. Hmm, so we got something like an exploding head mutant going on here for the cover art, which is pretty interesting although a bit bait. Is this a metal worthy cover? I suppose so but it’s not exactly something I would post on my wall and such but I think it at least it reflects the music style of the band.
Album Review: So what we got here is another melodic death album with hybrid harsh/clean vocals with a bit of synth. To cut things short, this is a solid album with all-round good songs although not particularly exceptional in anything, it’s essentially the same sound and song composition style as their first offering which is good but not exactly the kind of experimentation or mind-blowing stuff I would expect from a “super” band. Make no mistake, the bands riffs, clean and harsh vocals and song composition are all very well done but I don’t know, there’s nothing really memorable on this thing which made me say wow, that’s some good shit. The last song is really long, something like 11 minutes and is pretty much their take on hybrid melodeath prog-metal, a number of songs also make use of heavy instrumentals and synth; every other song is kind of like a slow ballad kind of piece; which is ok but a bit too much for me. I thought their first album was pretty damn good so I was looking forward to more but while good, I am a little disappointed with the lack of innovation here; hopefully Part II will be better.
Score: 7
