Anime Review Spring Season

Spring 2016 Anime Part IV

And so we reach the end of our journey of my seasonal scumbaggary and mai opinion. But honestly, this season is just so good.

Flying Witch – This is another unexpected show that has got my attention, basically slice of life witch girl living in the country. It’s what you get if you combine barakamon, non non biyori and Harry Potter if voldemort never existed and Hermione was just doing casual magic and shit in the muggle world. Yea, that’s pretty accurate I think. So main girl has moved to the country from the witch/magic world because her parents say that it’s time for her to get a normal education and such since being a witch isn’t all that important these days, so backup for future career as such. She moves in with her guy cousin and his little sister, guy is totally chill like yea i know witches and magic shit exist already (not a fag), little sister doesn’t know and suspect something off about her. Throughout the first episode it’s just the little sister trying to spy and investigate the main girl since she seems weird, she later goes shopping with main girl and they get along and then main girl is like oh hey, I’m going ride this boom to fly and shit. Little sister is like wow, cool. There are other characters in the show but not detailed yet, pretty funny last skit with a mandrake, extremely well done mandrake sounds and god level animation for the mandrake. shit. Character designs are nothing to get excited about, pretty plain actually but it’s ok. Concept is done before but this show is just so relaxing and mildly chill funny I can not help but watch it.

Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge – I wasn’t sure what to expect from this show, I kinda knew it might be gay but I was presently surprised when it wasn’t full on and was actually pretty funny, at least to me, a lazy bitch. So we got Tanaka here, he’s just a dude, a dude that goes to school and all that but he has something which others think is a problem, you see, Tanaka is a lazy bitch, he just doesn’t give a shit and his goal in life is to stay that way. So we have Tanaka here who is like the most mellow and tired looking dude ever, just sleeping in class, too lazy to walk etc and his best friend is probably like the most coolest/respectable guy around, tall, long blonde hair, “handsome” i guess by show standards, and very responsible to ensure that Tanaka at least maintains some form of activity so that he doesn’t die. As it can be seen the implied gay relationship is strongly seen here since Tanaka’s bro is always carrying him and waking him up for shit. Tanaka’s behavior, his lifestyle, his existence; it’s something that I can get behind, as said by his bro along the lines of “I admire his dedication and commitment towards being lazy.” The preview of the next episode introduces a cute girl into the crew so maybe it’s not all gay. Pretty base design, interesting concept, solid lazy humor, pretty good, will probably watch more.

Tonkatsu DJ Agetarou – So in this mini show we got this douchbag here, let’s call him Tarou, why? Because maybe that’s actually his name, can’t remember. But anyways, Tarou here and his family own a Tonkatsu fried pork cutlet shop, fucking Tarou just don’t respect that shit man. His dad is all like, yo son, don’t be a bitch, be a great man and learn how to fry pork cutlet like a boss; pussy is like no daddy, this place is bullshit. Whatever. Later some fat black dude goes in and eats Tonkatsu, goes away. Later that night, someone gets a late night Tonkatsu craving and Tarou is sent to deliver that shit, apparently at a club. Once he gets there, the customer is all like, yo man, I love your famiy’s shop, I own this club, if you can party and shit since you came all the way here. Tarou is all like, awwyaea, club time. So Tarou does some shit in the club, and then another dude is all like, i know you, your fucking Tarou from the Tonkatsu shop right, you dope shit. Then black guy shows up on the stage, playing them mad hip hop/rap tunes, from America, apparently is a super famous DJ. Then Tarou and black guy have a silent newtype psychic moment where they talk in their minds, black guy is all like, yo man, respect the Tonkatsu, my moves now, spining that shit and laying dem down those beats, it’s no different than cutting cabbage, frying pork cutlet at your store. Then Tarou is all like, hey daddy, teach me more shit, I wanna be a Tonkatsu DJ. The End. Wut. Whatever, horrible animation, cool concept, poor execution. Not for me.

Sansha Sanyou – I had no idea what this show was about, I knew it was going to be some slice of life comedy of some sort, even after the introduction I wasn’t sure what it was about. Then I got to the show, it has passed my requirements for slice of life. So main girl used to be rich but now is poor, she goes to a normal school and shit instead of rich one, having problems fitting in and eats lunch alone under some tree. She poor so eats a bag of bread crusts from store leftovers, only 50 yen, holy shit I would buy that too, basically free carbohydrates yo, free energy. So ya, feeling awkward and lonely then 2 other stupid funny girls just so happen to stumble upon her lunch spot. Funny things happen, they become friends, basically united by food and such, eating bread, dessets and shit. Main girl has long purple hair, second friend is hype girl who loves bread, and third friend is glasses girl who is kinda normal funny. Comedy comes from main rich girl not knowing what regular people eat and other misunderstandings on how to prepare, eat common people’s food. For instance, no put any seasoning or filling in onigiri, tasteless literal balls of rich were made…But in any regards this show was moderately entertaining so I’ll probably watch more. Decent character designs and decent concept but I love food shows so yea.

Wagamama High Spec – I had the impression that this was supposed to be a full show, not a mini show. Not really sure what happened here, just a bunch of cute bishoujo girls in school council talking about how hot it is and end taking their clothes off and stripping down and such. I think this is based on a erogame/visual novel since the ending talk show like part they use cut-outs of the original art, mind you they look really good waifus here so yea. Maybe watch more, we’ll see, very cute moe girls with big boobs. Waifus.

Ragnastrike Angel – Sounds cool, too bad it literally is a 30second commercial for an upcoming mobile game. Yawn, what the fuck is this shit, why is it even listed on lists as counting as “anime” show. Garbage.

Onigiri – Contrary to it’s name this mini show is not about rice balls, sadly. So something about fighting some montsters and shit, the girls look pretty good actually, cool cute looking magical fantasy-ish kind of clothes, powers and shit. Still not really sure what this is about but unlikely gonna watch more, too much other good shit. In a shittier season, might consider.

12-Sai Chicchana Mune no Tokimeki – So this is basically a girls show about girls problems when your in the 6th grade, 12 years old. It covers the usual topics of like, oh geez, I am a kid but not really an adult, I am beginning puberty and I get periods and shit, I start to have feelings for boys but they are so immature and such.  Yawn, yea this isn’t for me but from what I am told, this show is too real and too “accurate” in terms of capturing the experiences of how school life for girls during this age group, at least according to my sister. So we have main girl with twintails, kinda cute I guess but nothing special she likes some plain ass looking boy, looks like shit. We have other main girl, which is best friend of twintail main girl, she likes this guy but is basically totally tsundere for him, just doesn’t even realize it yet. So shit happens and kid drama like periods, blaming others and popularity contests and other high elementary hijinks. What I find extremely laughable about this show is that they show the main boy in so many still frames, often just staring, looking into the distance or doing some weird ass hand pose, trying to be swank and cool.  Problem with this is that he looks like shit, probably the most boring and generic looking guy you can think of. What’s funnier still is that in order to emphasise that this guy is supposed to be so good, they draw all of the boys who are not main characters with like dot or single lined eyes/nose/shitty afro hair etc. For what it is, I can see how some may like this, decent girl decent with ultra big shojo rounded eyes and standard concept. But nah, whatever, not for me.

Macross Delta – I know Macross is a thing, the songs are excellent the anime is excellent, Macross Frontier happened like 5 years ago or so, yea, Macross is a thing. I watched the first episode of Macross Frontier years ago and it didn’t really appeal to me. I watch this shit, and it somehow appeals to me. Maybe it’s because there is way more girls now and they are upping up their idol game and also space battle content which has me interested. So basically from what I am told from the intro, humans got into space and met some aliens, some good some bad, friends/enemies. After this for some reason some shit happened and Vars happens which is like a disease or insanity trigger which makes people go crazy and go ruin shit. So to prevent this from happening we got some idols and or idol groups which are kind of magical or something that sing songs that can cure and bring these infected people back into sanity or “deculture” as it is said. So main guy with blue hair is just some wanderer doing shit doing off jobs, likes to dance in work mech machine. He meets stowaway girl at his current transport job and they become chill, help her to food/get away from bosses. She wants to go to some planet to attend an audition to become a new member of top tactical music battle force idols, Walkure, ok. Some shit happen and people get insane Vars. Surprise surprise, Walkure show up and sings some nice magical buffing songs to aid all the people fighting plane/mechs and stuff blows up. Cut to space, badguys are fighting in space, pretty good 3dcg and very dynamic battle sequences and action. Pretty good, main girl sings along and from what I understand, is actually from the same planet that the bad guys who are attacking are from, but wants to join Walkure anyways. Hmm. Gundam Seed. From what i’ve seen this show looks pretty good, we got good looking cute girls with good character designs, we got space, which is a rare thing to make interesting in anime, we got space planes transforming mechs, we got some bishonon badguy crew, we got idolmasters, good songs and good animation? Looks pretty good, probably watch more and see ow it goes.

I think that just about covers most of Spring 2016, maybe a few unaired or missed but yea, the end. Shit there is just so many good shows this season, I can’t watch them all but I’ll try. Even the worse shows are still even watchable.
