Anime Review Winter Season

Winter Anime 2017 Part III

Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon – It’s been while since Kyoto Animation has done a “pure” comedy slice of life that does not have drama, music, romance or any main character dudes that are not faggots. Indeed, “Miss Kobayashi’s Maid Dragon” is good shit, right up my alley. So we got main woman; Miss Kobayashi; she’s an office worker of some sort, I think involves computers or programming. Alright then, one day as heading out to work a dragon appears in front of her apartment door; growls at her; then transforms into a cute girl in maid clothing with horns and a dragon tail and says she’s indebted to saving her life or something and will do anything that she desires her to be; in this case; being her maid. Yea, that’s the basic premise of the show, no doubt resulting in no shortage of hijinks and dragon related jokes. The main dragon girl, Tohru is really cute as expected, pictured above and features a considerable bust; one that kyoani ensures you notice by putting in that “bounce” sound every time her boobs jiggle, pretty jokes. Aside from Tohru’s inherent meido waifu funny qualities, there is also a cast of other dragon/mystical creatures that are her friends that also get the anthropomorphized treatment. Tohru is pretty yuri gay for Miss Kobayashi but that’s part of the humor I suppose along with shit like washing clothes by licking them, offering her own cut off tail as cooked dinner etc. lol wut. Excellent animation, character designs, concept done before but come on, Kyoani quality so whatever, excellent slice of life comedy, great pacing and production values. Watch for sure.

One Room – This mini-show is along the same lines of exercise waifu anime with no dude in sight, literally first personal animu waifu experience. Introduction tells me of at least 3 girls that will interact with you in a first person experience, the first girl introduced as expected is a newly moved in high school student which you see around town walking home once in awhile and eventually asks you for help to study for exams and shit. Yea, simple bait ass shit but it’s mini-show so can’t go wrong. Good animation, character designs, done before concept, watch anyways.

ACCA – 13-ku Kansatsu-ka – The author of this manga is pretty much a women and loves Nazi SS officer uniforms, as that’s what the main character and it’s “police” force all kind of wear; black suits with red, white and gold accents = forever not allowed. Aside from the fashion aesthetic of it’s police force, main guy has got blonde hair and blue eyes. HITLER AUTHOR MUCH? Well the actual show has something to do about government police force and Aryan Race main guy’s division being obsolete or something and the government wanting to shut them down cause their a waste of resources and whatever. The Superman™ always smokes and has a trademark lighter or something, yea; whatever. Some shit happens and Himmler’s sec in the government plan a uprising and shit, lots of handsome men of the Third Reich also part of the corruption. Yea, this show is shit, not for me, aside from base and not feeling it character designs, I’m sure Hitler won’t approve of them; not Aryan enough. Slow as fuck pacing and boring dialog that puts you to sleep; hardly on the level of the Führer. Shit show, bad for democracy and the free world.

Akiba’s Trip The Animation – Based off the PS3/PS4 game of the same name I am honestly surprised that this shit got made into an anime. I never played any of the games, which I think is on at least it’s second sequel now but yea wow. Unless, you are blind this show is basically AKIBA-STRIP The Animation, as in Stripping of clothing off a human character’s bodies, yes, this is a thing. So anyways, we got Tetsuo here, why? Cause it feels like it; he’s just an average otaku guy that frequents trips to the holy land, the Akihabara strip in Tokyo. So yea, Tetsuo ends up meeting his sister there and they go and do otaku shit when all of a sudden some girl with red hair shows up fighting some other cosplay looking women, they have at it and the red haired girl ends up striping off the other girl’s clothes as well as her minions, thus defeating them and knocking them out. There is some Easter eggs at various points in this anime, one being that you see merch and figures from the characters of top voice actor anime, Sore ga Seiyuu! leading me to believe this is done by same anime studio that did that show as well; cool shit.  Some other shit happens with Tetsuo and the red hair girl, which ends up having Tetsuo save her from a spike or something. Looking at imminent death, red hair girl gives him some of her power and makes Tetsuo like her, with the power to strip off instantly people’s clothes in order to fight off some evil or something, I dunno but it works as a nice gimmick to a baity ass anime and game. Well, the show isn’t’ bad, but it isn’t great either, it’s pretty Lagom so maybe I’ll watch a few more to see how it goes. Plain simple character designs, mild comedy and meta factor. We’ll see.

elDLIV – Some crazy ass show that I’m not exactly sure is for who. I dunno some fag boy hears voices and shit. Can’t fit in at school because voice always talks and shit, as if second person inside of him. REAL LIFE VERSION  = SHIT SON, LOOKS LIKE YOU HAVE A MENTAL ILLNESS. Boy likes girl at school, blonde girl but is ice cold and usual. Some stupid ass shit happen and boy is recruited by Nanoha and friends into the SPACE POLICE, literally, THE SPACE POLICE to do men in black type of shit on earth. The space boys say hay, go down and show us your shit kid, why our magical machine choose you and shit. Boy is all like, wut, goes down, first thing he sees is his hot big boob teacher seducing his white boy American 5-minute friend that he just met yesterday. Inner self ghost is all like, I think there is something wrong with her boy, boy is all like, naw man, she is boobs. Boob teacher gets suspicious and transforms into a ugly blob fat monster and threatens American boy. The little voice in the boy materializes as a chest burster alien and does some shit to neutralize the blob monster. Go back to spaceship, surprise surprise, blonde girl at school is a Space Police, hurry for you boy! The End. Yea, this is just one huge cluster-fuck of bullshit that I have no idea about, for kids? for women? sad youth? I have no idea, the pacing is erratic at times and the characters vastly undesirable, from fag boys, green aliens and kyubi chest bursters. The only thing that i found good was the ending credits, because at least I didn’t have to sit through another minute of this garbage. Down there with Hand Shakers as one of the worst.

Little Witch Academia – Well here it is, Trigger’s new offering this season that is pretty much a anime version of sorts of Harry Potter, minus the voldemort and world ending scenarios, at least for now I think. You would think that I would be a bit more enthusiastic about this show considering I kick starter funded the second OVA anime project like 2-3 years ago but not really. The show starts off with the main girl as a child, watching a magic show that features a famous traveling witch in the normal world. Girl is obviously impressed and fast forward years later and she is shown to be enrolling into a magic witch school. Whereas the OVAs Ako I think her name was? already was well established and in school with friends, this first episode is something of a starting from scratch of the story with her meeting her friends and issues with her being a muggle and shit. For what it is and for fans of the new franchise, it’s a great start which I’m sure will have lots of interesting stories but for me it just came in at a little underwhelming. I can’t help but compare the OVA quality to what I just saw, which was overall a downgrade in quality, character design and animation production. The colors seem faded and a bit washed out and quite frankly a bit dull, which is a bit sad considering this is Studio Trigger we’re talking about, the mother fuckers that brought us Kill La Kill and before that, Gurren Lagann when the creators were still at Gainex. Obviously for TV it’s hard to maintain quality, ok but I just expect more from these guys, especially from episode 1. Maybe watch more but don’t count on it, decent.

Spiritpact – More disgraceful Chinese Tencent animation passing itself off as Japanese anime. Nope. Not this is bullshit again. Opening sequence plays, hears Mandarin song. Nope, not for me motherfuckers. Not for me. There has been an increasing rise of Chinese anime the past year and so for all instances, are pretty horrible pieces of shit. From horrible animation, laughable character Chinese-sterotypical settings and clothing to just flat out missing the mark on general pacing and premise, it’s just a mess. Just once I would like to see a Chinese anime be good or at least on par creatively with source material coming from Japan. As for the show itself, it starts off with some homeless Chinese dude, full on kung fu clothing being all handsome and shit, but totally looks ugly as fuck to street passerby. Some shit happens and magic spreads, some other guy shows up with white hair and does some magic shit, fucking HONG or whatever his name is makes fun of him calling him “THE KOREAN” no lie, he fucking calls the dude Korean then whatever. HONG then walks around and some shit and gets hit by a car, he dies. Wakes up in the hospital as a ghost beside his body; Korean guy comes in and says, yo faggot, your dead; then HONG does the usual route of comedy disbelief of his own death, but because he’s a Chinese guy, it seems more authentic and real; his panic I mean. Something about powers or whatever and fast forward to the end and HONG and Korean guy are fighting some evil ghost spirit women; cue horrible choppy animation and the likes, ghost dead, dies again, the end. Cue Chinese song ending. Nope. Lol. Nope. Down there for one of the worst as well.

Piace – Watashi no Italian – Mini-show about a girl that works in an Italian restaurant in Japan. Yea, probably gonna try watching this but from what I can tell it’s kind of iffy in pacing and shit. Character design and animation are ok but we’ll see. Decent well see. Lagom.

Idol Jihen – This is another idol anime except this time the gimmick is that instead of groups, they are political parties representing the Japanese diet house of representatives. Alright then, so it goes something like this; the world has not been fully explained to me yet but from what I gather, idols and shit are serious business right; so what has ended up happening is that government representatives ended up being elected and shit because they are cute girls and shit, with that said, some parties were all like fuck it; we are gonna make our representatives cute idol girls and shit; yea, so that’s what’s happening; on the inside there is a bunch of old men that are against the idolization of the house of representatives. There there is the longer story at play here but in the short term we see some women and her lacky driving around the countryside, looking for a cute girl to pick up to be idol in the house. They find one, she was cheering people on for planting rice and shit, red hair, twin-tail idol hair, standard cheer hype personality; questionable voice acting however but yea. The usual standard idol anime tropes ensues with recruitment and training, and also subsequent idol drama starting earlier than usual with her more experienced idol senpai and shit. After mild problem of drama is resolved the main idol girl and more experienced senpai do their stage show for election votes and shit. They sing song, the end. The next thing I see is them walking into the Japanese diet, looks like they won and shit, yea, thus the real story begins. I have a slight problem with the character designs; their heads are a bit longer than normal and look slightly dated in their hair styles and look, maybe 5-8 years ago animu? Not sure, but it sure isn’t the latest anime hair aesthetic. The pacing is a bit slow and kind of forgettable; the concept is actually pretty good but it’s execution is pretty lackluster and forgettable. Disappointing, I would have watched this if done better but it’s kinda shitty so yea, probably gonna pass on this.

Marginal#4 – Kiss kara Tsukuru Big Bang – Gay idol anime for women. However, there is a slight spin on this one as well the first 10-15 minutes of this show is standard male idol fare with introductions, performance and song and shit with the main 4 dudes in the group doing their idol thing and talking to senpai experienced better idol crew, you would think it’s one full on railride. However, midway through the episode the tone and flow of the show changes to more of a slice of like comedy with the 3 of the 4 guys just living their life at highschool, in anticipation of their fame that they will get from girls after their idol debut. What ensues then is a small montage then of them running away from other dudes asking them about trying to hook them up with girl idols in the industry and other side shit related matters, totally not giving a shit about the 3 dudes themselves lol. Not bad. Show ends with main dude saying we should create a club to have our own space at school and meets the 4th idol guy from their crew who was told to transfer to the other 3 guys’ school. Once they get the clubroom they are all like, yea, gotta work now and idol that shit. Hmm. Not as bad was I was expecting, it’s a different fresh spin to the gay idol anime with the welcome addition of school life slice of life-like tone and pacing which is very similar to Love Love! except for women target audience. There is nothing wrong with the character designs and the animation, good gay dancing and song shit, but yea, not really for me; unlikely to watch more.

More to come still I think, the last of them…
