Anime Review Winter Season

Winter Anime 2017 Part IV

A few more late shows to wrap up the season, there’s a couple of shows that will air later on in the month but I already checked them and they will probably be shit for kids anyways so yea, that’s it for Winter 2017 season.

Kuzu no Honkai – A strange awkward romance drama show that has the main girl and I think main guy united through common bonds of love that cannot be. What the? So it’s like this, main girl loves her brother and shit, so right off the bat this is bad for her; worst still is that her brother ends up becoming her highschool home room teacher. So is initially happy at first but then sad because he notices that her brother is in love with another teacher at the school. Sad. Main girl then bumps into some guy who was also looking at the the girl that her brother is interested in. Turns out the boy is in love with the other female teacher since she tutored him when he was little. So yea, awkward moments arise with the main girl and main guy essentially both coming to the realization that they are in the same boat and they wont’ be able to truely express their feelings cause reasons; out of this revelation, the two come to the conclusion and say, well let’s just date, we are the same. Cue awkward kissing and foreplay scene later on where the main girl imagines that the dude is her brother and vice versa for the other women teacher with the guy. Well, the guy’s situation is not so bad, but girl has a problem with the whole onii-chan brother incest thing, fuck, so awkward since it’s not even towards the brother himself but through proxy via the other guy. For what it is it’s an alright drama romance show, the character designs are good and the main girl is decently attractive and the girls hold their own as well. The pacing and shit is good for drama but yea, I’m not sure who this is targeted for, I can only assume women since the main character is a girl so ya. Hmn. Not for me.

Onihei – So it’s like rakugo except instead of telling stories and drama, the main guy is a police officer or head detective or something in feudal japan solving mysteries and ruining people’s shit with his experience and knowledge. Proving that he was right all along about people and etc. This first episode is basically about some thief that got captured and the onihei guy goes and beats him up and jails him. Later he tells of some shit about his leader and whatever causing trouble killing people and shit for money which is bad. The jailed thief guy is all like, naw man, that ain’t my boss, my thief boss is honorable and shit, he would never do that. Onihei guy is all like, ok, help me find this imposter and bring him to justice if you feel so strongly your boss isnt’ a bad guy, let’s the thief go. Thief searches for his old boss and gets ruined because once he does find him comes to the realization that he is bad, there is no imposter; just that his old boss really was a killer and his ways of honor have been thrown away. Cue police guy coming in and raiding the thief base and shit with some words between thief guy and Onihei, pretty much, yea, told you bitch. The end. This is an interesting story which is no doubt going to be episodic in nature, it reminds me a lot of Joker Game and maybe even Death Parade except samurai times.  Dark and shit colors but yea, expected for this kind of show. Really cool jazzy music theme and op sequence. Will probably watch more, interesting enough I guess.

ChaoS;Child – Something of a sequel of sorts to visual novel game/anime Chaos;Head that came out back in 2008 I think by the same company/creators of steins;gate so expect very similar feel and paranormal science adventure story which from what I read online on wiki, is actually this franchise or series is called by Nitroplus/5pb. It’s so convoluted and confusing to explain but this was a 2 part back to back episode that I watched. The first half pretty much summed up or showed a part of the story from Chaos;Head and how it’s events or whatever are directly related to the story of Chaos;Child and whatnot, with re-appearing characters and possible time loops/alternate dimensions/future-self possibly being hinted at. I never played or watched chaos;head but a quick look online tells me it was mediocre and about people who have the ability to manipulate their realities, as opposed to time-travel like in steins;gate. After the “episode 0” recap/summary finishes halfway I am greeted with the opening of the first “real” episode of the new show with new main guy and girls and such. From what I gather story takes place like 5-8 years after the events of the first game/story and shit along the same lines of yea, new guy is the center of it all and he has to solve the past’s mystery as well that the old protag failed to solve or something. For what it is, I found it moderately entertaining although a bit slow moving and of course confusing as fuck seeing as I never watched the first installment of this story. Decent designs, cool premise and ok pacing. I might watch more of this, we’ll see how long I last.

Fate Grand Order – First Order – Mobile game anime of TypeMoon’s money making Fate franchise, now with more time travel alternate dimensions and different protagonist that isn’t Saber or a faggot named Shirou as the main dude. It’s all convoluted and confusing as fuck but from what I gather, story takes place in the future, many years after the events of the original fate/stay night and even fate/zero; I’m talking about possibly 20-100 of years; not sure. So anyways world is kinda messed up, there is some science place that is trying to do research on servants and masters, training them and shit in order to send them back into time/another dimension in order to fix whatever the hell got messed up in the past to lead them to this shitty future. Main guy shows up derps around and is named to be a “commoner” whatever of low class; meets the new “saber” like girl named Mash and shit. Bad things happen and almost everyone is dead/base attacked, Mash is killed but before she dies a heroic sprirt asks her some shit and ends up merging with her, giving her power and shit to stay alive and ends up keeping her memories and identity as herself. New fag boy and Mash are transported to the past, I think near the end of the fate zero grail wars? Not sure never watched. But anyways they are instantly attacked and Mash is all like transformed now in servant mode and has a giant cross shaped shield and defends the main guy. Some other shit happens. Archer show up trying to kill shit, is killed by caster, which is basically lancer in fate/stay night and Mash ends up fighting evil saber and wins. Real bad guy shows up and says some shit, cute director girl is killed allegedly, not confirmed but could come back. They panic, world or dimension blows up; Mash and main guy go back to original time; new mission now is basically go back in time to all the periods in which the new bad guy fucked up and intervene so that human’s in the future are not dead, cause magic and shit yo. Yea. Mobile game. This was really long, like a movie almost at over 1hr to watch, but despite that it wasn’t really movie quality, actually it was kinda shitty in terms of animation. The character designs are a vast improvement overall from what I am used to from Fate/Stay night, Mash’s design or “Shielder” as I have come to look up is pretty good, as well as all the other shit I see. Ok not bad, maybe watch more if it’s only going to be a once a month kind of thing mini movie. Decently entertaining and Mash is pretty good waifu level but we’ll see.

Overall this season is filled with lots of sequels and lots of slice of life moe cute shows, which is exactly what I like so good shit for me. Surprisingly very little new sports battle shows, aside from the pool of sequels and no mecha/action really; overall volume and number of shows is much less compared to previous seasons. Either way this is fine, I can catch up with older shows that I neglected and play more games or whatever with my time.

Probably watch for sure: Nyanko Days, Urara Meirochou, Demi-chan wa Katarita, Gabriel DropOut, Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon, One Room, Onihei

Maybe: Akiba’s Trip The Animation, Masamune-kun no Revenge, Little Witch Academia, Fate Grand Order, ChaoS;Child
