A 2017 Retrospect – A Most Ruinous Year indeed

I knew it was coming after last year but I didn’t think it would be this bad…of a finish.

2017 was a shit year. It was so bad in so many respects and facets I don’t even know where to begin. Still shocked after the victory of Trump I had hoped that he would mellow down and at least try to be a decent president or at least a full on puppet to his party and we can forget about it and get on with our everyday lives. NOPE. FUCK THAT SHIT, Trump kept on being trump with his stupid ass twitter comments, blatantly corrupt behavior and disrespecting pretty much almost every country on earth with the exception of probably Russia and China. American politics has become a shit reality show with fucking high ranking officials being bullied, fired or simple resigning because Trump can’t get his shit together. Failing to repeal Obamacare after so much shit talking and inaction, ramming through tax reform bill that’s just a tax-break for the big corporations, fuck what the hell happened? Outside of the American sphere of influence, in Canada things are doing a bit better, official date next year for weed legalization, Canada 150, brown guy chosen as leader of federal NDP, that stupid Gord Downie guy finally died, solar eclipse, bitcoin reached all time high, finally got Netflix for family along with chromecast, technology refresh for most of my family with new devices, robot vacuum got, TFC fucking finally won, Argos won but nobody cares, new Vaughn subway line opened, Disney brought 20th century fox (could be good), Invictus games happened in Toronto, Nier Automata was an incredible game, The Disaster Artist was amazing, Blade Runner 2049 was amazing, Dunkirk was amazing, Power Rangers movie was ok, got ebi-fry plush toys, got more beautiful animu figures, blessed gods gave us fidget spinners and some other shit too. But man, the amount of bad things this year I couldn’t have predicted it would be this ruinous at the start of this year.

Aside from the list of notable people that have died this year at least to me: Roger Moore, Roy Halladay, Hugh Hefter, Chester Bennington, Adam West, Charlie Murphy, Bill Paxton, so not too bad this year. However the list of other horrible things that have happened this year just goes on and on: Las Vegas strip shooting, Chester Bennington died (worth a note again), Ariana Grande concert terrorist attack, hurricane irma, hurricane harvey, some other hurricanes, more natural disasters, us tax reform passed, san berndardio shooting, regular show ended, emoji movie happened, death of korean popstar killed himself, Charlottesville neo-nazi riots, multiple van rushing terrorist attacks in europe and other places, north korea launched further ICBM tests to reasonable success, escalated tensions with everyone in asia with north korea, Despacito song happened, Sears Canada has gone bankrupt and closing, Toys R Us going bankrupt soon, Loblaws bread price fixing corruption, Justice League was terrible, The Last Jedi was disappointing, no development of new internet meme culture, children got even stupider with even worst you tube bullshit celebrities, Russia pretty much running America now with money via Trump, Trump being Trump, NAFTA is in great danger because of trump could see the rise of all products soon, because brown guy won federal NDP it pretty much solidifies that they won’t win ever anytime soon, bitcoin is down and is almost unusable to transfer because of fees and slow network, TTC streetcars still as shit as ever with bombardier failing so hard to deliver it’s unbelievable, Presto TTC card system is so shit, TTC boss is leaving for New York transit system, more shootings and murders by blacks in my neighborhood, Apple intentionally slowing down older devices to save battery life but still basically motivated by greed and corruption, the death of the universal headphone jack in Apple products and even more fail in Pixel2 and other android devices, Disney brought 20th century fox (could be bad), Blue Jays suck again, Star Wars battlefront micro transaction bullshit, serious decline of triple AAA gaming, pretty much the defacto death of RTS genre for pc gaming, League of Legends is still the most popular and played game online, Overwatch is now shit and is almost dead for some reason despite it’s fast meteoric rise to prominence, no new Gundam anime, boats still running flash, boat events reach a new level of bullshit and specificity, news that you don’t like can be considered an opinion or fake news these days, stupid ass conor mcgregor fight happened bullshit waste of time for money, Trump acknowledges Jerusalem as capital of Israel and moving US embassy there going to start a war for sure, Animu and mango censorship is still a thing i just want to see boobs man, company had a loosing year this year – lost lots of money – lots of good people were let go or resigned, didn’t get as much shit or even dinner for Christmas gift from company because of losing year, broke my foot – in aircast for 6 weeks, probably going to be a war in saudi arabia in that area soon, Spain Catalonia voted for independence but gets suppressed by government. Yea, that’s just some of the shit we got this year.

However, the worst two events that happened this year are no doubt the repeal of net neutrality in the united states and Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment shit which triggered a worldwide movement to expose the sexual misconduct in Hollywood, entertainment industry and even people in government and other high ranking officials. Let’s talk about the repeal of net neutrality, FUKKKKKK, this is so bad for the future of the internet I can only hope that something comes along and blocks this shit so we can have freedom once again. Even though this is in the US, it’s kinda hard to not be affected by this being in Canada as the internet is global. If asshole dick companies like BELL, RoGers and Telus start seeing shit in America where they start charging more for “internet fast-lanes” you know as hell that they won’t hesitate to do the same shit here. Canada already has the most expensive internet and among the worse service/speeds/coverage in the world, I don’t want to give the big telecom’s even more fuel to justify fucking us over even more just because BIG BROTHER AMERICA is doing that shit. Fuck. And that’s just talking about cost, what about freedom and innovation? Censorship of content? This shit could potentially open up invisible internet walls between countries where some sites will not be accessible or blocked by ISP because of regulations and bullshit. This is bad unless it’s stopped.

Aside from the potential ruin of the internet as we know it, on the social front we have the Harvey Weinstein sex stuff and all of the other #MeToo movement which is just terrible in general for everybody. I’m not saying that it’s a bad thing, it’s great that women and others are finally able to be taken seriously to tell their stories and finally able to get a voice out and tell the world about the hardships and rape/harassment in whatever industry they are in. What’s bad about this then is not the people telling their stories, it’s the perpetrators that are coming to light is what makes this so bad. So many famous and respected people which everyone believed in and thought to be good decent people have been revealed to be such perverts and sexual deviants, most notable Kevin Spacey which is probably the worst by not only admitting that he was gay but at the same time packaging that as an excuse to cover for allegedly assaulting a young man back in the day. Bad bad bad move Kevin Spacey, probably the dumbest shit you could have ever done, it’s almost like saying “Yea, i’m gay, so what do you expect, it’s ok then for me to molest that young guy” soooo baddddd. The consequences moved so quick that it more or less put an end to his acting career within 48 hours; cancellation of house of cards, movie deals cancelled, movies that were done WANTED TO BE RESHOT AND EDITED WITHOUT HIM IN IT, SUCH AS “ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD”, HOLY SHIT and Ridley Scott manged to do it in record time as well. Fuck. Yea this was big news and will probably change alot of things about the entertainment industry and how sexual harassment/rape will be perceived by the public as well. Ruinous.

Goodbye 2017, I didn’t think you could top 2016 but somehow you did it, you were even worse than the previous year, in fact, quite ruinous indeed. 2018 I think will be a turning point in our recent downward spiral of ruin, the world and America will either rise up and things will get better or they will take the hits and things will be even more bad than 2017. The probability of a major war starting next year is so high I don’t even want to guess between what countries are involved.

The seeds of ruin have begun to sprout.
