I am very lazy this season and already behind most of the animus by like 3 episodes so I’m going to cut it down significantly and round up all of my thoughts on one post instead of breaking it down into multiple posts.
Hanebado! – This is a teen sports drama anime with girls about badminton. It’s pretty hardcore sports drama and the animation is very well done and shading intense. This is a pretty good show but I don’t know if i’ll watch more, maybe a second episode and we’ll see, the first episode is already so drama thick I don’t know if it’s worth investing time here since the girls are ok cute, but not amazing. Amazing animation and colors/shading/lighting however.
Island – Based off visual novel of some sort where you get the girls and basically stuff and mysterious things happen and the usual. The main girl is pretty cute design and voiced by Yukari Tamara, OG magical girl nanoha despite her real like age does a good job at her role. Something something memory lost, probably alternate timeline, dimensions, some sci-fi element and killing/saving people, special powers etc, the usual. Not bad but not really interesting to me.
Satsuriku no Tenshi – Based off some game where some girl is locked in some prison or something and every floor she goes to there are crazy murderers and shit. She eventually befriends another crazy guy that originally wanted to kill her or something and they make do some journey or whatever. Girl is probably murderer too. Slow and horrible pacing, shitty character designs and no drive. Shit show.
Harukana Receive – A really nice sports show about girls who play beach vollyball. Decent amount of cute slice of life with the usual sports drama traits and tropes. The main girl is pretty alright, tall and happy/optimistic. Really good character designs, so shiny and great animation/shading. The pacing is just right between chill/sports drama and funny. Might watch more of this cause I like sports shows with girls in bikinis.
Hyakuren no Haou to Seiyaku no Valkyria – Bullshit show about something magic or whatever other world gay main character in some fantasy whatever. Boring and completely forgettable. Shit.
Chio-chan no Tsuugakuro – Interesting comedy show about a girl Chio-chan and her jouney on the way to school. It’s a simple concept which needs to be very creative but pulls off reasonably well. Yes, the entire show from what I understand is just her going to school and shit happening to her and her friends. It’s comedy gold, similar to nichijou in many ways but to another level with inner thought and hyperbole/metaphors. Yea, this is a good show. I will watch this.
Ongaku Shoujo – New moe idol fare, not sure if this is based off game but most likely is, if not probably card game or something. Kinda strange first episode, all the idols are at the airport and they are holding a contest/autition for a new member to the group and some random beautiful girl who is moving to japan joins in and impresses everyone with her looks and dancing ability. Too bad she can’t sing for shit, which is probably the main trope of this show. Pro girl wants to be idol but can’t sing but has everything else. Not bad, but could be better. Probably won’t watch any more.
Hataraku Saibou – Has the potential to be one of the best shows this season, this is basically a action/comedy/slice of life show about the daily working of the inner human body except in usual japan style, everything has been personified and humanized as if it was normal society. We have the main girl who is one of many Red Blood Cells, we have the main bad ass guy who is a White blood cell, we have buildings and departments called lungs, hearts and shit. Red blood cells job is to deliver oxygen and co2, white blood cells is to kill invaders and bacteria. Yea, this ain’t no ordinary biology class. Done by the same studio that did the JoJo animues, David production, so you can expect that level of quality. Good concept, designs and pacing, characters. Good shit, watch for sure.
Asobi Asobase – Don’t be fooled by the extremely generic slice of life opening with cute girls playing and jumping around. It’s a head fake, this show is straight up comedy gold with intense joke faces, funny gags, hyperbole and situations/observations that you can’t help but laugh at. Faces similar to prison school or nichijou. Like come on, one of the three main girls is a white girl who pretends she doesn’t know Japanese even though she grew up in Japan and has perfect language skills but is totally shit at English. That kind of character writes joke material by itself. Great style, pacing, good jokes, funny girls. Good shit, watch for sure.
Planet With – Watched some stupid shit about fake gundam wannabe heroes or whatever. Terrible terrible designs and concept, looks so kiddie. Fucking sunrise C- level quality creativity. Don’t even remember what’s this shit’s about. Bad.
Jashin-chan Dropkick – A gag comedy show which on paper sounds good but really falls flat in anime form I feel. No doubt originally a manga or even 4 koma, the jokes and perdictable and boring. The type of humor here is like, oh main snake girl wants to kill her master but opps, she said something stupid and her master was right there next to her, master beats her up half to death with chainsaw but it’s alright because snake girl regenerates. The End. Yea, repeat that like 3 or four times per episode It gets old fast.Maybe I’m too quick to judge to I’ll give it another try in ep2 but it’s unlikely I’ll pick this up.
Phantom in the Twilight – A decent show for women about a girl moving to England to study and comes across a secret cafe full of beautiful bisnonen men and one ugly Chinese chink guy. After some story it’s told that all the vampires/wolfmen/chinese ghost boys all know her great grandmother or something and take a liking to her cause she was once a demon hunter or something. Yea, not bad for what it is. I can see women getting behind this show. Not bad. Not for me however.
Banana Fish – Really really gay show for gays and bisexuals I think. Something about some blonde guy in america working in the mafia and some japanese reporter/student comes around and wants to interview him on behalf of the police but gets into trouble as he gets kidnapped along with some other people. The character designs in this show are terrible, looks very old and dated, just shit. Bad, forgetable plot and generic permise, the only thing going for this show is that main guy is like gay and probably half of the characters as well. Bad.
Angolmois – Genkou Kassenki – Some historical bullshit show that has a very ugly main character, ugly women, ugly style and shitty boring storytelling. The show has this paper filter appied on at all times and it gets very annoying and it’s like I’m watching the show with mud or dust over my eyes or lens. Looks like shit. Bad. Forgettable not for me shit.
Senjuushi – Basically a Touken Ranbu or Kancolle clone with anthropomorphized old musket guns into beautiful bishonen men. I would be alright with this concept except the fact for the story and world that they lay on you at the start of the show is so stupid. Basically world has gone to shit in the future and Nazi’s II come to power and control the world with superior technology and shit, called literally “The EMPIRE”. So yea, for some unexplained reason, old musket rifle guns became alive as beautiful boys to fight back and start a revolution. Yea, it’s retarded and doesn’t make sense at all. It makes Kancolle and Touken Ranbu premises look like masterpieces. Shit show, could have been decent.
Kyoto Teramachi Sanjou no Holmes – This is anime that was featured on my room key card at the hotel I stayed at for AX. Not surprisingly, this is a show targeted towards women but is actually pretty good. Basically main girl moved to Kyoto and goes to antique shop to get shit appraised, meets Holmes, the guy who works there and is really smart and cool, basically like Sherlock Holmes, except for antiques and people. Holmes identifies her problem and basically helps her by giving her a job at the antique store for money and shit. I am sure they will solve mysteries and shit along with teaching me about fine pottery and ceramics. Decent animation, good pacing and storytelling, interesting characters. Try to watch more.
Shinya! Tensai Bakabon – Bullshit old ass show from the 80’s or 90’s that doesn’t really deserve a remake but ended up doing so anyways. 90% of the episode is dedicated to the character’s self awareness that their anime is shit old and needs an update. The father goes on and on about how to improve the show and make it more modern, chaging aspect ratio, doing a sex change into a women, changing voice actors and etc. It’s all pretty bullshit but of course in the end they show the real style of the remake and it’s like yea, whatever. Fuck this shit, some things just need to die.
One Room S2 – Sequel to I think last year’s One Room where you take on the first person perspective of some dude and your girlfriend/waifu. Cool, what’s more interesting is that I think it’s the same characters as the first season, so it truly is a continuation. Watch more since it’s a mini show.
Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu – Another “Isekai” show about some fool that get’s transported into a fantasy world and has adventures and meets hot sexy busty women and etc. Yea yea, it’s the same shit again. This time at least the dude is ok, not a wuss, at least visually and his two sidekicks are pretty attractive girls, a cat girl and a blond busty elf. Yas, this is good. Animation is good and the character design for the main girls and other girls is pretty damn good, very attractive but yea, probably won’t watch this cause, shit, it’s the same as always. Not bad but not for me.
Shichisei no Subaru – Something of a hybrid “Isekai” show but with more mystery and objectives defined, like SAO. Basically a bunch of kids used to play online game, when you die in game, your character dies. Group of elementary school kids play the game, they super pro but main character makes a mistake and one of their girl friends die in game. In the real world the girl ends up dying for mysterious reasons, and main guy blames himself. Time jump like 8 years or something and the game is still going and main guy is reluctant to play but his new friends force him to. Some shit happens and he ends meeting the dead girl’s old character in the game, I can assume her memories or some shit have been transferred or AI happened. Guy is like wtf and yea. I give this show a bit more credit because it’s concept is more interesting than usual but yea, probably won’t watch this.
Yume Oukoku to Nemureru 100-nin no Ouji-sama – Gay shit for women. It has the name Ouji-sama in it’s title, beware. Something something, normal Mary Sue sent into magical world where she is a princess and meets princes that have powers and shit to defend and protec. Yea, all the guys are shit. Generic. Bad. Not for me, not for women with good tastes either.
THE iDOLM@STER CINDERELLA GIRLS Theater – Yes, more idolmaster Cinderella girls return in more chibi moe short madness. Watch for sure.
Happy Sugar Life – A very good physiological thriller/mysterious/horror show. Don’t be fooled by the opening sequence or first half of the show. You think it’s going to be a slice of life but it’s not, it’s straight up thriller drama with the later half of the show. Good shit. The character designs and coloring/shading style don’t lend much towards conveying that but that’s probably why they did it. Good shit, watch more and hopefully it doesn’t disappoint. The girls are pretty cute, probably women gay yuri.
Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight – You think this is your standard moe idol show? Not really, it’s a bit more than that and the last 8 or so minutes of the episode convey what makes this show stand out from the others. The show starts off very normal and generic with friend rivalry, old friend coming back home after 12 years, promises etc. All the characters go to an all girl school which focuses on acting and theater, which means singing, dancing and or skills that would be good for theater production, like writing/set design/costume design etc. Let’s just say the last 8 minutes caught me by surprise and was a welcome twist to what would otherwise be a standard boring idol drama show. Good shit, worth watching more to see how it goes.
Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san – Fan service show about boob ghost girl in doom with a bunch of other sexy busty tenants. Main guy is acceptable and he likes to punch shit, so that’s a plus. Mild comedy, boobs, some story mild. Decent character designs but yea, nothing too noteworthy. Probably won’t watch but yea, we’ll see.
Grand Blue – Thought this show would be shit, ended up being pretty damn funny. I thought it was related to grand blue fantasy but it’s totally note. Basically, scuba diving anime with funny main guy and a bunch of dudes and girls having slice of life, stupid jokes and shit. Lots of “Titan” faces and hyperbole, lots of drinking and funny gags relating to university drinking and shit. Main guy moving into small town with his uncle and two female cousins, both kinda hot/cute. Jokes bishonen blonde otaku character who becomes main characters friend etc. Girls are pretty attractive and the guys are not bad too, funny shit. I didn’t except to enjoy this show but it’s pretty good. Will probably watch more good shit.
Chuukan Kanriroku Tonegawa – Kaiji spin off show about Tonegawa, the middle management boss that Kaiji owned at the end of the first season. It’s basically a comedy with some mild gambling from what I gather about what Tonegawa did before he met Kaiji and I can assume, what he did after he got owned by him. Good shit Zawa Zawa Jew nose faces. Watch for sure.
Lord of Vermilion – Guren no Ou – Some bullshit show arcade game in japan. Something about red mists and people falling ill into comas then waking up having powers and fighting or whatever. This show does one of those “I’ll show you the end of the show” then brings you back to the very begining which to me is kinda annoying but yea whatever. Not bad character designs but still largely forgettable. Nope not for me.
Overlord III – Probably the best episode of overlord since the first season. Shit for once got slice of life and chill. Fuck, for once I didn’t need to know about what plans are in action to supress the lizard people and orcs or whatever. Yea, good shit, watch it cause I’ve come this far with Overlord.
Shingeki no Kyojin 3 – Not out yet but you know it’s gonna be gud.
Back Street Girls – Gokudolls – Pretty jokes show about a bunch of failure yakuza guys who are forced by their boss to do a sex change in thailand and become cute idols in japan to make up for their failures. The premise itself is pretty funny and unique, very out of the ordinary, all of the former men, now girls are decent and do the whole idol thing but inside and in private they are still like gangster men, lol. Lots of good voice acting because each girl has a male voice and a girl one. The animation of the show itself is kinda shit but it’s ok for this kind of show. Maybe watch more.
Tenrouː Sirius the Jaeger – Something something, special crew, special something pre-WWII area, vampire hunting, JAEGERS. Yea, you kinda get the idea of this show is another generic action, historical fantasy with a crew trying to hunt down vampires and shit. Ugly character designs and shitty animation for an action show. Boring and slow pacing and just shit. Nope.
Sunoharasou no Kanrinin-san – Show about some little boy that looks like a girl and his new life living in the city to start high school at a dorm but his landlord is a beautiful women with enormous boobs that likes to tease him. Oh, the rest of the dorm is also just girls, some with very big boobs as well, others, not so much. This could have been ok but the subs for this, which I had to go out of my way to get were pretty terrible done by some illiterate chink no doubt so yea, minus points there. The show so far is kinda one note but maybe because the rest of the girls have not yet been introduced yet but whatever. Probably not follow, despite landlady pretty good boobs, it’s just not enough funny or anything.
Probably missed a few shows but yea, whatever, might update this shit later. Overall a good chill season with no bullshit but lots of funny comedy and continuing sequels and shit. Good shit.
