This guy was in episode 4 and said he was a robot or something but not really, in episode 5 it was a filler episode all about this fool and some bullshit side story about saving the animation industry in japan and whatnot. This cosplay however is really top tier well done, everything is good, hair clothes, even sandals are cool.  It was funny because after I took a photo of her an older couple approached us and asked for a photo of both of them together. I took a photo of them, which is kinda strange in my opinion and then they asked her what character she is supposed to be. lol. ok. Altera then explained her character and how she was from FGO and etc. The couple was like, oh ok, do you know league of legends? Our daughter plays that, maybe I will tell her about this game. lol jokes.

So I went into anime north idol and the card captor voice guest was there again. She sang a song again it was ok. Carry on.

After each performance this dude would come out and say good job whatever. This girl was better than the first, she’s a lot prettier too very nice sexy leggings and wore high heels, nice dance.

So this was a industry booth to promote Kimi-kon, a new convention that is starting up in the fall with Sakimi-chan as the creative director and promotional artist. They had a very good early bird offer to attract people to the con, if you buy weekend tickets now for $50, you get like 5 free Sakimi-chan prints! Holy shit that is a pretty good deal i’d say considering one of her prints usually sells for like $15-20 each. Lest to say I was impressed with their offer and decided to go for it and sign up. I got my prints and signed up to their newsletter. I had a very long conversation with the bald guy with the lanyard as he was one of the executive people organizing it, one of the top guys. Very interesting discussion indeed about the state of conventions and the business around it, how it’s super hard to start a new thing without dying after the first year. Very impressed and very passionate/enthusiastic guy. Wish him and the con does well, I’ll be there in Fall. lol.

End of the con, waiting outside in the lot for pickup and collection. Kinda strange place to hang around, you see all the other people you saw before but not in con mood, just tired and want to go home. I saw the Altera again in this space walking around, she was calling someone, guess for pickup too I guess.

All in all this Anime North was pretty good, definitely an improvement over last year’s fare. There were a number of things that they did well this time, namely expansion of the con to actually use the full space available to them, all those secret meeting rooms and shit for concerts that no one has ever seen before, that was cool. Also really good job on being LAX on the restrictions for artist alley/comic market this year. I spoke to a lot of artists this year and they all told me the shit show that was last year’s artist alley, kicking out people for stupid rule infractions like having names of characters on art, symbols, no plastic goods or vinyl stickers or acrylic keychains etc/corruption.

I looked around online and apparently last year was so bad an artist created a tumblr site to express her grievances with many others last year chiming in to complain and share similar stories of corruption and bad treatment by AN staff. I suppose those complaints were heard and this year they specifically allowed acrylic keychains and stickers to be sold, a first for Anime North, and as you can see from my photos, a good amount of artists took advantage of those lifted restrictions. Lots of artists that were absent last year were here this year, probably due to some people giving up on AN and or straight up banning it because of their poor experiences last year. But either way, I feel that this year was the year of redemption for AN staff and they managed to contain themselves from booking everyone. A shift towards more material plastic goods are in play now that acrylic keychains are allowed and I think people are buying less prints than they used too. The art this year is pretty much the same as last year with the exception of being Darling in the Franxx artwork taking a presence and further increases of Persona/Nier and WAYYY more Heroes Academia art being represented. For me boats has subsided but it still exists, you just gotta look for it and keep a keen eye.

Similarly cosplay this year was very varied, no particular trends but a strong showing of Fate Grand Order, Dragon maid, Hero Academia and Nier 2B’s. League and Overwatch have all but almost completely vanished from cosplay presence, being old news and shit, while I do see some boats once and awhile which is great. I went to a boat panel it was shit, never again. Photoshoot of boats was great, will do again in the future. Dealers this year was very sparse for some reason, dunno why, much more space to walk around and less vendors in general, as well as the size. Not much manga being sold this year, same for deals, way more figures than previous years, which is nice. Guess the otaku fandom market is shifting towards figuring collecting more eh.

The arrangement of food was great and overall about the same level of organization and preparedness as last year, lest some hiccups due to the new areas being opened up and of course your usual fool volunteers who don’t know jack shit. Overall I had a good time, good cosplay, good art, decent dealers, better organized, damn hot though but yea, can’t do anything about that. Good shit.

Might make another post for my loot and purchases but we’ll see.
