Here we go, let’s welcome in the Winter Anime 2019 season with cheers cause this is the shit that will be dominating the rest of the year’s anime trends and so far they are looking pretty good. I’ve found that good shows that air during the beginning of the year to have the most impact on anime culture because it’s so fresh and lingers in the minds of viewers whereas summer and fall seasons people either don’t give a shit or are too busy with life/work/school to have a lasting impact. But for winter? Japanese people are still fresh from their break and so is everyone else around the world too, so yea, memories. Let’s get this shit started then, it’s not like I have anything else better to do.
Egao no Daika – An original show about some princess that looks like a younger Nico from Love Love who is the ruler of some space kingdom and shit. It’s kind of a slice of life but with battle and mechas and of course she has a collection of “knights” or something like that to protect her from the overbearing space opera that it really is filled with politics and space drama. The animation itself is not bad and the concept is ok but it’s not really my thing. The mechas look like shit so ya, that’s not helping, neither is the fag main character who made the usual promise to protect the princess or whatever. Yea, not my thing, pass.
W’z – I watched this by accident. This is a sequel to several years back anime “Hand Shakers” which if i remember correctly, was totally shit. Damn, why did they do this to me again? More crazy ass colors and some fighting in pairs or something? Some music boy dj and some girl? Pulled into some alternate world back and forth where sick beats lie yet battle commences? I have no idea what the hell I watched. Either way, look like shit designs and premise, garbage why. Bad.
Mini Toji – Even though I didn’t finish the actual Katana Maidens show, I still feel like I might end up watching this because why not, it’s low committal and nice cute chibi moments of fun and dumb. Yea it’s a minishow but that’s what it’s supposed to be after all, and from what I saw, it’s what I expected cute. Probably watch more, we’ll see.
Ueno-san wa Bukiyou – Another minishow about a orange twin tail hair girl who is the head of some science or inventor club at school but is like super horny and perverted for one of the dudes in the club and goes through all sorts of bullshit to get him to like look under her skirt, drink her purified pee, smell her socks and other fetish items all under the guise of some science experiment or testing her new invention. On paper this sounds pretty good but I find that the pacing is a bit slow, even for a mini show but for what it is, it’s alright. Probably will continue watching unless it gets super dumb. Characters look simple and shitty and the main boy is retarded too. Yea.
Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari – Oh boy this is probably going to be a pretty good show. At first glance it’s a pretty safe isekai fare for the first 70% of the first episode, with the usual tropes of a bunch of japanese fools getting pulled into some fantasy world with magic orcs and shit, yea yea, game interface and skill trees and displayed level and shit; you get the idea. According to legend 4 heroes from another world are to save the fantasy world from some apocalyptic event or demon whatever, a sword guy, a spear guy, a archer guy and a shield guy. Of course our main character gets shit on by getting the SHIELDER class and pretty much being useless shit like MASHUU in some other franchise that we know of. Anyways, some pretty bad shit goes down and a conspiracy to ruin the reputation of the main shield guy happens and now everyone hates him even though he’s innocent, even the three other heroes which were supposed to be his allies in fighting the evil or whatever turn their back on him. So MASHUU, being all alone and shit on by society, transforms instantly, transforms from being an innocent and naive protagonist, into a ice cold jaded motherfucker who doesn’t give a shit anymore that trusts no one and goes about on doing his duty; to save the world, with or without anybody else’s help. Clap Clap Clap Clap. So yea, he goes along and buys a cute semi-beast girl to be his companion because, yea, he needs a slave and shit and cause yea, anime. Animation of this show is alright and so are the character designs. For what it is, I am actually fairly impressed so far, the story has my attention and MASHUU got upped after the great betrayal. Good show, i’m sure people will be following this one.
Dororo – Some garbage show probably taking some 80’s or 90’s manga and trying to make do with it for the modern times. Basically, it’s like samurai times and shit is going on. Some baby is born and has no skin, eyes or any limbs. Holy shit, no skin, eyes or any limbs? FUCK, what a creature. Anyways, it’s implied that this baby was born because his father, some lord or whatever made a pact with some demons to make it rain and shit for his village because of drought or whatever. Obviously the lord is like oh my god what is his creature of a monster baby, servant toss this shit away and kill it. Mother be like, no ma lord, don’t I love it. Lord be all like, whatever bitch, gonna get you pregnant again and have a proper kid. Wife be like sad and yes ma lord, tears. Servant goes to toss baby in river, doesn’t, put in some basket instead, moses style. Servant gets killed by random demon cause yea, it’s a demon. Time jump 18 years. Wow wow, looks like the baby is alive after all and grown up, except he wears a mask and has prosthetic arms and legs that are also swords. Yea. Anime. Shit man. Fuck. What is this shit. Fuck bad.
Pastel Memories – A show that could have been something good and cool but the execution is so poor and the animation so mediocre that it makes you wonder why they even bothered making this into an anime if they were going to be so half ass about it. Basically, it’s the near future and for some reason Akihabara is no longer the place for anime, games, idol and otaku culture, for reasons unknown, it’s become like a regular city district. Manga, games and other shit for some reason people are forgetting about, all except for one special cafe and it’s employees, a bunch of maids which still love manga, anime, games and such. The girls at the cafe want to collect manga again for those rare customers that want to read manga, as they are a manga cafe of sorts. So the girls go around town trying to find manga to complete the collection of what is essentially their bootleg version of “Is the Order a Rabbit?” because a customer requested it. Sure sure, journeying happens and then at the end of the episode a fuck load of other maid characters are introduced that all work at the cafe with the same goal, then some crazy shit happens and three girls in magical steampunk girl gear shows up and be all like, sup, who’s next on shift. Three other maid girls then transform and go into some portal or something and essentially go into the manga world trying to fix some virus and save memories? Yea, it’s pretty confusing and convoluted. Basically it’s like this, girls go into manga and do shit, fight some mysterious bad guy or mysterious team rocket girl and restore the manga world so that it exists in the real world. Yea, it’s pretty bullshit. The worst part of this show is the girls are supposed to be big boobs and such but the animation is so mediocre and choppy that you will have none of that nice bouncy eye candy. It’s shit. Character designs pretty bad either way. Could have been a good show but it’s pretty shit but know knows, I might end up watching more just to see what the hell they do with this shit.
Mob Psycho 100 S2 – After a year or so we see the second season of mob psycho 100 which feels weird because we haven’t even gotten one punch man S2 yet and that started ONEs rise to fame. Either way, the show kinda picks up right off after the end of the first season and as expected Mob does shit with his handler getting into trouble. The first episode is rather puzzling, it’s a very low impact slow episode, very sentimental story about mob and this girl which kinda was bullied to become his girlfriend because he’s so weird but she ends up kinda liking him for real and him standing up for her against the bullies. Damn, not what I was expecting from episode one, this kind of shit is perfect for like episode 3 or 4, way to kill the non-hype with feelings guys. The opening song and sequence is pretty rad and unique but nowhere near as good a song or designed as well as the first season. We’ll see how this goes. The first episode is kinda alarming but hopefully we get more action later on. If not, Mob Psycho is fucked.
Watashi ni Tenshi ga Maiorita! – Awww yeaaaaa, one of the top new moe cute slice of life comedy shows for the season. This show can pretty much be summed up as the daily lives of MASHUU and GUDAKO in japan. Yea, for real man, the main girl looks EXACTLY like MASHUU and her little sister looks EXACTLY like GUDAKO and their relationship is very similar to what you see/read in the Fate/Grand Order Learning with Manga shorts/strips except reversed, MASHUU is the one loving the things. Outside of the uncanny resemblance to FGO MASHUU, the show is basically just MASHUU fawing over and falling in love with GUDAKO’S elementary school friend who see views as angelic and super cute. MASHUU is pretty hikkomori, sporting the red track suit clothes at home and displays no real job or schooling duties, all she does is make cosplay clothes for herself and her sister and now her best friend. Yas. Of course more friends are eventually introduced and the cycle of fun continues. Excellent concept, ACE character designs, fun slice of life funny shit. Good shit. One of the best of the season so far.
Rinshi!! Ekoda-chan – An absolutely terrible piece of shit work that barely qualifies as anime. So basically Ekoda-chan is some old ass manga which was adapted many times with art and shit where the main girl is basically a ho who just sleeps around and lives the free lives of a women who just does whatever the fuck she wants with any dudes. Also, she’s always naked at home because she has no money for clothes, only for work clothes as a hostess at a club. That actually sounds not bad on paper, the problem lies in the gimmick; apparently there is 12 episodes of this shit being made, with each episode directed by a different director and animated by different people/studios which results in drastically different styles, storytelling and character designs. Yea, the gimmick is bad but the worst part is that the “anime” is actually only 3 minutes. Yes, for a 26 minute show, there is only about 3 minutes of “anime”. What the fuck is the remaining 23 minutes used for? Fucking live action interviews with the voice actor and director reminiscing about making their one shit episode. FUCK. this is bad. Can’t believe they even bother labeling this as anime.
Kemurikusa – Oh boy, this is going to be a weird one maybe. So it’s a 3dCG show right, cool alright, with that out of the way let’s talk about the story. Basically some random guy pops up in some post apocalyptic world and meets a collection of cloned sisters with red hair and all kinda look the same. The girls go around and want to kill the mushi or bugs as they call them cause yea, they bad or whatever. They think main boy is a mushi so they try to kill but they can’t cause he’s human, just like them but they can’t believe. Some shit happen and the defeat a mushi and kinda suspcious of our main boy. Alright, with that outta the way, the main reason to maybe watch this show is that the original director of Kemono Friends is making this shit. Oh boy, if you don’t know the drama surrounding the director and Kemono Friends it’s basically that he was fired by Kadokawa for no reason after his hard work and success on making it the sleeper shit show of like 2 years ago. Yea, that’s why. You gotta be kinda curious to see what he does with thing. Tone is pretty dark and dim, character design is whatever but we’ll see. Maybe a win? Maybe a loose? We’ll see.
Meiji Tokyo Renka – Roast beef. That’s pretty much the only thing I got out of watching this bishonen beautiful boy anime with a typical mary sue girl transported into the Victorian era from modern Japan. That’s about it really, I summed it up pretty good. The guys are all shit except for the main default win one, typical. The main girl is a loner because she sees ghosts and lost all her friends because they think she is weird, some joker guy shows up, sends her back in time for lulz. She loves roast beef, a very strange food if you ask me for a anime girl to be so fixated on. Why can’t it be steak or just beef in general? No bitch, it has to be Roast Beef. Yea yea, not for me, looks ok though for those wanting.
Yakusoku no Neverland – This show seems very familiar, like it’s something that I’ve seen before but not really. Hmm. Oh, yea, that’s it. It’s basically kiddie Matrix without any of that computer stuff or powers or savior whatnot mixed in with like hunger games and peter pan. Yea, that makes sense. Basically, children in isolated orphanage, they have a good time, growing up schooling and such, taken care of by nuns and whatever. When they reach a certain age or are deemed “worthy” by the nuns they graduate and leave the school grounds, never to be seen again, which is implied to the kids that they are adopted and get parents in the outside world. NOPE, that’s not what’s going on. Kids are being grown and raised for food, like cattle for the aliens/monsters that have taken over the world, the orphanage is just a farm. Holy shit oh boy. Main group of kids discover this like 75% way through the first episode when they see their friend who was “graduating” and then seeing her dead body ready to load on a truck for the alien’s consumption. Main kids are completely ruined and terrified at this revelation, eventually decide they have to escape and get away. End episode. Wow, such drama and ruin; I don’t think I can handle the ruin since there is no place to go but further down, there is like zero chance of a happy ending for this show, it’s impossible so why bother going through the torture as each of the kids slowly but surely gets killed or picked off by some other journey death. On point drama and shock factor though, decent animation and ugly ass character designs. Unless this gets like god tier buzz not watching this shit.
Doukyonin wa Hiza, Tokidoki, Atama no Ue – A very cute show about a man and his new pet cat. Shows literally translates as “My Roommate is a Cat “. Main guy is a semi-hikkomori writer that lives alone and ends up coming upon a stray cat that he reluctantly ends up taking care of. The show is kind of a 101 on how to pet a cat and what to feed it and such but has lots of comedy and sentimental reflection pieces about companionship on behalf of the main writer dude since both of his parents are dead. Oh, and the show is conducted very interestingly in that about half the show is the main dude’s perspective and the other half is the cat’s perspective with fully voiced narration of the cat and what it is doing and thinking, usually hungry for food, want to give food to master or even cat reflection when it was a stray cat and the likes. It’s a very advanced and Japanese detailed version of Garfield more or less except that the cat is a girl and is pretty expressive and cute with reactions and cat things. Pretty good cat. Probably will end up watching this cause it’s chill and slice of lifey.
Go-toubun no Hanayome – Oh boy it’s been a long time since I took interest in a harem-ish type show but this one looks pretty good. So we have a boy, he goes to school, he is considered a loner and kinda weird but is very very smart, like the smartest guy. Oh, he’s also very poor and cheap and always buys the cheapest food for lunch. One day he meets the new transfer student girl and is annoyed because she orders like the most expensive meal at the school cafeteria and took his seat at the table he usually sits at alone. They argue and such and go away, typical. Throughout the rest of the day he bumps into other new transfer student girls and has his own piece of mind when they clash. At the end of the day, he gets a call from his sister saying he has a new tutoring job for their new neighbors that just moved in and their daughter which go to his school. Being poor, he goes visits their neighbors, surprise surprise, it’s all the girls he met and clashed with throughout school, they are all not just sisters, but quintuplets. So yea, that’s what’s happening here. This is essentially Haine sensei anime except for straight men with 5 cute girls with big boobs and character traits. All five of the girls are pretty attractive and all obviously have a base body design/face design with of course their hair style and color differing along with their personalities and hobbies. My expectation for this show is that at the end he won’t pick any girl to be his wife and or all of them end up being his wife in typical harem fashion. Main guy is cool and not a wuss so that’s a huge huge huge plus. With the animation and character designs of the girls so pretty and shiny, it’s hard for me to not watch this shit. Good shit, will watch.
Girly Air Force – This is kinda exactly as it sounds but not really, not quite. Basically the world has like aliens and shit invading, or as they call it in the world “XI” are bad guys. So humans have developed some special fighter jets based off real life aircraft except that they are “powered” by girls. There is some nonsense terminology about anima, core or something about that to explain the relationship but it’s basically like the girl is the plane itself, or something like that inside when they “pilot” themselves. Yea, a bit weird but no weirder than strike witches a having boat girls. Anyways the main problem with this show is that the main character is a wuss boy who doesn’t know what he is doing and equally so a default best friend girlfriend but not really from China. See, from my understanding the main characters are Chinese and they happened to be refugees living in Japan when they get caught up in this plane story accidentally. Some shit happens and our main boy does some emiya shirou bullshit to one of the plane girls when she crashes into the sea defending them or something, yea, something like that. The main plane girl is alright, quiet cute girl and kinda airheaded type, she “is” the red plane. I have not yet been introduced to the blue or green plane girls yet. Overall, this show is just kinda shit. The girl is OK but the main boy is annoying as hell and the premise kind of weak, like I already have boat and plane girl shows, why do I need to have the girl go INSIDE the plane. If anything this kinda reminds me of Arpeggio of Blue Steel when I did not watch either except for planes. The animation is pretty good and the character design of the girls are ok but nothing special. Not bad, but not good enough either. Probably won’t watch.
Dimension High School – What’s going on lately with all these experimental 3dcg shows that try to incorporate live action and “anime” together. This has got to be one of the worst executed ideas for an anime in recent memory. So basically the show starts off showing a bunch of faggy looking boys at school. Slowly kinda introducing them in the classroom. Remember, this is live action so the ugly factor is amplified to uncharted territory here and we have the standard tropes, hype boy, main boy, gay boy, try hard smart boy and funny whimsical teacher boy. Yea, so anyways after mindless banter for about 5 minutes some talking rock with a face shows up in the classroom and magically transports all of them into another world where they are rendered as 3d anime characters. None of the characters they turn into match their visual appearance when they were live action humans. So bad. So after accepting their new found ugly avatars the talking geodude says some shit like, hey boiz you gotta answer and solve the riddles to some shit on the blackboard or else you will all die or the world blows up. The kids are all like, oh noes, we gotta do something. So some sphinx with a big voice magically appears and poses some riddles and questions that only a Japanese would understand cause they deal with wordplay and shit. They solve it like fools and they are praised, go back to live action world and lesson learned. Repeat next episode I can only assume. Fuck. This show is so bad. You can tell they are using the same technology for the 3d cg models that they use for virtual youtubers but it’s just bad and awkward. The entire show takes place in the classroom. Fuck. Probably one of the worst this season along with Rinshi!! Ekoda-chan.
Domestic na Kanojo – This show makes you feel pretty uncomfortable because the story is more or less something that can happen in a porno, for realz. So basically we have normal boy at school, he wants to have girlfriend, goes to mixer party with friends. Meets sad weird random girl at mixer party, girl straight up asks him if he wants to have sex, wants to try it. Boy is like, wow, sure of course I would love sex, it’ll be a new experience for me to. They go back to his house and do the deed, they experience sex. Next day boy goes to school and fawns over his teacher who he likes and shit, feels sad because taboo. Goes home, dad is all like, hey son, I’ve been thinking, I’m going to get remarried again, let me introduce you to your new future mom. Mom also has two kids from previous marriage, surprise surprise, it’s his teacher that he likes and the random girl he had sex with from the mixer party. Oh noes, the awkward moment when the girl you had sex with the other day is now your stepsister and the teacher you love is also your stepsister. Damn, you can’t make this up, shit’s straight out of a erogame or eromanga. The girls themselves are ok but nothing special. On paper the situation is fairly typical but the problem is that the show is taken 100% seriously, there is no comedy or jokes here, it’s straight up drama awkward moments fest. Why would anyone watch this shit? There’s already porn for that. Waste of time.
Mahou Shoujo Tokushusen Asuka – So this is a interesting show that has some potential but not that much potential, it’ll probably be a decent watch but nothing will come out of it such as figures or further fandom. So basically, the world has magical girls right, they fought off some evil demon creature thing and saved the modern world with their combined strength. Cool cool, that’s nice, they are heroes. Clap clap clap clap. Yay. So then, now that the world is saved, what does the magical girls do in a world now that the evil monsters have been defeated? Well then, that is the core story of this show, what DO the magical girls do in a world of peace? The main title character, Asuka is our main magical girl and a time jump happens of about 2-3 years after defeating the demon lord and she is peacefully enjoying normal Japanese high school daily life. She makes some new friends at school and they do normal school things, but then some shit happens and her friends are in trouble, something like a bank robbery gone bad and are about to be killed. Being a magical girl, she transforms and beats up the gangsters and saves her friends. The end. So yea, basically this show is about magical girls fighting normal criminals with guns and shit and no doubt, some of her old friends are now bad magical girls and shit. Main girl is pretty cool, attractive, looks very similar to Cleopatra from FGO except with white hair and fights with knives. Animation is passable now but could get worse later. Maybe watch more hopefully it won’t get worse.
Grimms Notes The Animation – So this show is based off a mobile game again and as it sounds is basically trying to cash on in with classic european fairly tales like alice in wonderland and little red riding hood and the like. Story is some shit happens and all the fairy tales are fucked up, everyone has their “book” which tells them their destiny for instance, little red riding hood is “supposed” to get eaten by the big bad wolf but for some unknown reason, some virus or shit happens and that doesn’t happen, the story is corrupted and not correct. We are introduced to a band of forgettable men and girls that are out to correct the stories, as they are literally in the story world and they are all connected I guess. So shit happens and they fix the story. Yay. The main character is a boy that transforms into alice from alice in wonderland because of course and likewise the rest of the party transform when they do battle, disregarding gender of course. While the show is not bad and the character designs are ok, it’s so whatever that it’s not really worth my time for something based off a game that I have never heard about.
Bermuda Triangle – Colorful Pastrale – Shitttttttt what the hell is this shitt. Fuck. Wow. Without using too many words this show is about a bunch of mermaids under the sea living their life, slice of life fashion doing cute things and exploring the world and such. Ok cool cool. The problem here is that none of that shit makes sense when you see it visually. In the opening scene of the anime I saw a women pour tea underwater, I saw the girls move around in the water where there are houses, roads, bridges; all underwater. Think about that for a second, why do you need a BRIDGE when you are underwater? lol fuck. They eat cake and food underwater like it’s nothing. Their hair is not effected by water, gravity seems to work fine here. They all have regular human like clothes, even skirts and shit with only their lower half being mermaid fish tail. WHY? SHIT doesn’t make sense FUCK. So laughable it’s hard to focus on the slice of life chill when you are so distracted by the absurdity of what they are doing under water. Like, sure, spongeboob squarepants has got this shit down too but it’s a funny kids show, not anime so it doesn’t matter. Even aquaman has better physics and rules then this. From what I understand, this is actually a spin off of some other cardgame or anime idol game? Not sure but yea, so bad. Animation shit, characters forgetable. Bad dumb.
Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai – This is an interesting show about a guy and a girl in school that like each other but they cannot express their love/attraction because if either one does, they “lose” the advantage over the other in their relationship. So main guy is the student council president, main girl is his vice president. The dude is normal kinda poor guy and the girl is super rich. So yea, there is that dynamic with other friends getting in the way between each of them. This is all presented in a very comical and jokes manner, indeed, this is not a serious show, it’s a comedy of sorts with romantic elements not to be taken seriously. Throughout the show the two unofficial not dating couple are presented with soft love battles such as making a lunch box and sharing food, asking one or the other out for movies or even stopping one from dating someone else, all presented in a kind of shokgeki souma food wars battle, with full on commentary and hyperbole and metaphors galore. The voice acting for both of the main leads are very good and do a great job of expressing their characters inner thoughts and logic for their cryptic and misguided actions, which often times leads to unintended results which is the main source of comedy from this show. The guy is ok, the girl is ok, animation is above average. Probably worth a watch but we’ll see how it goes. Not bad.
Endro – Ahhh yeaaaa, you think that a show with such a short name is some grand mecha or fantasy shit, nope. This is a slice of life comedy fantasy show with some interesting twists. So we have a collection of hero girls, they are about to defeat the demon lord, and they do so by casting a spell that seals and banishes him into a portal. The deed is done and there is much rejoicing. See end credits of show, then suddenly, it rewinds rapidly with increasing speed. The next thing we see are the hero girls again but they are walking on their way to school, hero school that is. Oh shit, looks like something happened and time got reversed. The heroes are shit now, they don’t know anything compared to the first scene where they own the demon lord. Class starts and their teacher says that he is retiring, and a new teacher is here. New teacher introduces herself, it’s a little demon girl and class is like, wow, so cute and demon girl is like, noooo don’t make fun of me. They do some shit and bring the class to a cave to do a quest, if you don’t pass this simple quest you are expelled, sure sure. Demon teacher basically then explains that SHE is the demon lord that was defeated in the opening scene, she was banished to the past and made into a little demon girl cause yea, anime, and now he is going to get her revenge by making sure that the heroes don’t become heroes. So yea, that’s what this show is about, jokes and hijinks. The heroes are all cute girls of varying trope quality and fit their roles fine like sword girl, caster, priest etc. Demon teacher is cute too. Nice pastal color palette and chill funny tone. Good shit, nice concept good characters, will watch for sure.
Kouya no Kotobuki Hikoutai – So I heard that you like planes this anime season? Well then, we got you some more planes motherfucker. Yea, this is another show about girls and planes except this one is a lot better in many regards than Girly Air Force. Without going too much into detail because honestly I don’t fully know what’s going on myself, it’s like alternate WWII times with slightly higher technology level with 3dCG plane battles and dogfights, done so in the most realistic manner possible to the backdrop of some war story with the main characters having high stakes and past relationships with the enemy forces. Yea I dunno. The opening scene of this show is pretty shitty, it’s just the cast of girl pilots sitting around and talking at a cafe while a group of other male pilots are playing cards and they get talking and have an argument. They are interrupted by call to sortie and they are off to the planes for battle. All of the girls themselves are 3dcg which I question greatly because it isn’t that good, still look stiff and shit, better than most but still shit compared to 2d animation. The plane fight scenes are beautifully done, flowing, fluid with dynamic angles and first person perspectives used to emphases the action and speed of the planes, which honestly, isn’t that fast considering WWII type aircraft. There is no missiles, just machine gun fire, which is a shame because there is rarely explosions then. Overall the show is alright, I’d watch it for the plane sequences alone because they are done that well and I guess more about the world, which I know nothing about. Design of girls is ok, animation should have been all 2d but whatever. Maybe watch more, we’ll see.
Kemono Friends S2 – Oh boy here it is. After all of the drama with the firing of the original director, Kemono friends gets it’s second season. Well then, is this shit any good? So far it’s alright but a few notable changes which are hard to ignore. First things first, where the hell is Bag? Has the main human character of the first season dead? Who is this new guy/girl in blue? Is she the same as Bag? Is Bag dead or is she still alive? None of that has been revealed or answered yet. Is the serval that the new main character meets the same one as Bags or is it a different serval? Who knows, the mystery only gets deeper. Still, outside of the disappearance of Bag, the models have changed for the better, they are taller and not as jaggy, pretty smooth actually and the voices are still good. The opening song is alright, still be the penguin girls I think but not as good as the original opening song but it’s ok. The production in general is higher but I kinda miss the midway animal explanation segment from people at zoos and shit, ahwell. So far it’s going to be a different journey from the original but we’ll see. Watch for sure cause it’s Sugoi Tanoshii.
Virtual-san wa Miteiru – Garbage shit. What’s going on these days with 3d cg shows. I know it’s a hell of a lot cheaper to produce but this thing is so bad why even bother. What this is is basically a skit comedy show featuring popular Japanese virtual youtubers that are not called Kizuna Ai, because I dunno, we need a 24 minute timeslot show to supplement these virtual youtuber characters that totally don’t need it. I only know 2 of the like 5 that are featured and seeing them in a scripted show, although I think ad-libed dialogue is just bad. Their actions and movements are so ugly and shitty, no wonder that most of these virtual youtubers only do lets plays and game videos, you don’t have to worry about them moving around and fucking up the motion capture, you can just focus on their mouths and facial expressions. Now, we see their whole bodies and it just looks so bad, hands are always moving, swaying and held up from the waist because if they relax it looks awkward even more. What’s worse is that the various skits are just pure filler with nonsense that doesn’t even feature any of the 5 virtual youtubers. Fuck. Pretty terrible. Bad.
Kakegurui XX – Oh boy, looks like the second season of Kakegurui is here and it looks pretty damn good so far. Without going too much into details, you are thrown into the show immediately with the assumption that you know what is going on and Jabami and the eyepatch girl are in the middle of a gamble together with a new pink haired Gothic girl. They explain the rules and the gambles goes on, the show then progressively does a recap of the first season with highlights and the such good shit. I had to go out of my way to get this shit because it’s not on horriblesubs but yea, i’m sure that once it’s over it’ll all be on Netflix. From what I gather from the first episode, a new cast of characters are being brought in to take over the student council members or something, leaving all the existing ones to be just around or to help Jabami, which is cool, I think. Not sure if that’s correct but yea, that’s my guess. Since this is a manga that is still going, it’s fine if they do something like this in order to create an original anime story without conflicting with the progress of the manga. Good shit, good quality, watch for sure.
Circlet Princess – Feels like based on mobile game. Something about princess girls who battle it out in sports manner similar to gundam build fighters except purely digital. Well, they not really princesses but whatever. Main girl is like yea, I am main girl, I have no idea what I am doing but end up getting tangled up and mistakenly drawn to the battle sport where I meet the best girl and end up fighting her, end up beating her and shit and people are like wow. Fast forward like 2 years and the main girl transfers over to new school in order to do the battle sport but finds out that the school doesn’t have a club for the battle sport anymore and is all like, say whatttt. The end. Basically this is gundam build fighters except the gundams are girls and they wear circlets or bracelets which is the device they use to transform/go into battle for sport. Girls are not bad but the animation is choppy and kinda shit, only will get worse I think. Not bad but unlikely to watch more.
Overall this first anime season of 2019 is not bad, lots of new stuff and returning franchises, good dose of slice of life and possible new franchises if they end up good too. Not much idol, mecha or sports show however.
Probably watch for sure: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure – Golden Wind, Mini Toji, Ueno-san wa Bukiyou, Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari, Mob Psycho 100 S2, Watashi ni Tenshi ga Maiorita!, Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken, Doukyonin wa Hiza, Tokidoki, Atama no Ue, Go-toubun no Hanayome, Endro, Kemono Friends S2, Kakegurui XX
On the fence: Pastel Memories, Kemurikusa, Yakusoku no Neverland, Mahou Shoujo Tokushusen Asuka, Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai
