Alright, here it is, Spring Anime season 2019 overview, do we have any good shit this season? Sure we do. Is it a lot of good shit? Honestly, not really. For the first time in a while I would consider this season a pretty mild, maybe even shit season for anime compared to the last few that we got. Other than ongoing series such as jojo, shield hero boi and a few others, there’s actually very little here that I can recommend to people to watch with maybe a few gems that shine far brighter than everything else. And oh ya, for some reason tons of mini shows this season, where was this year season?
Kono Yo no Hate de Koi wo Utau Shoujo YU-NO – Show based off some visual novel from what I can tell. Something about a gay main boy and living in some town back in 1995 who’s dad has been presumed dead/missing for years and gets tangled up in some conspiracy with some island redevelopment project which involves some artifact that has dad gave him before he went missing and involves alternate dimensions and a bunch of girls and shit. Typical cast of girl potential casts ugly ass girl deigns, poor pacing, annoying typical main boy. Nope.
THE iDOLM@STER CINDERELLA GIRLS Theater S3 – Wow, they are still making this mini show for Idol master Cinderella girls? Well anyways still gonna watch them, the TV and Web versions as they have different content, like 3 and 1 minute each. Gotta each the franchise fresh with cute things I guess.
Midara na Ao-chan wa Benkyou ga Dekinai – A interesting mini show about a purple haired girl who hates/scared of men because they think they are all horny dudes because her dad is a erotic novelist and she knows all of this shit so when she interacts talks with guys her mind can’t help but go immediately towards that line of porno thinking, which is the primary means of comedy for this mini show. One of the popular guys in class ends up unintentionally confessing to her and she can’t really react normally, always thinking to go immediately to sex, but it’s never the case which is where jokes begin. It’s not bad, a strange kind of romance show with her dad in the backdrop to provide more chaos, since he looks like a little midget pupplet lol. Not bad watch more.
Senryuu Shoujo – A mini show about a poems/ haiku club with the main girl that doesn’t talk but only communicates through written poems and some other hoodlum dude who joins the club who is also pretty good at poems. It’s a light comedy slice of life light romance deal and it’s fairly entertaining enough. The primary means of comedy is the fact that the main girl refuses/can’t speak and only uses written poems to communicate and the fact that the gangster boy is so out of place because he joins such an artsy club and the mild romance between them. Not bad, watch more.
Hitoribocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu – A pretty good slice of life comedy show featuring a very fragile and weak girl entering middle school who’s sole purpose before finishing middle school it to make everyone in her class a friend because she made a promise to her sole elementary friend that she won’t talk to her anymore unless she made more friends in the interest of helping her out. Main girl is super nervous and probably has some light form of mental illness since she thinks way to hard about plans to make friends and always gets so devastated when they don’t work or don’t go as planned, but this doesn’t really matter because out of desperation she does end up becoming friends with the girl who sits in front of her, a blonde girl with short hair who is kind of a rebel, light hoodlum or at least that’s what people think of her as and the hi jinks continue further as she gets more friends. lol Not bad, pretty jokes but for some people it can all be too real and can’t handle or find the main girl super annoying. I don’t see it that way, I see it as as a younger Shimamura Uzuki from Idolmaster Cinderella girls doing her best. lol. Good shit watch more for sure.
Joshikausei – This show is another mini show featuring a bunch of girls that do daily slice of life things and comedy routines/tropes except none of them talk. It’s a show that has no dialogue with the exception of maybe a few sounds and grunts of acknowledgement from the three man girls. It’s only like 3 minutes long, they look good enough and it’s entertaining enough so yea, going to watch this. Not bad.
Nobunaga-sensei no Osanazuma -Wow what is this season and mini shows, last season there was like none but now there is tons of them. This show is essentially about a man named Nobunaga who is an ancestor of the Warring States Nobu in the present time who just so happens to be a school teacher and through some weird whatever, a young girl from the past is sent here through unknown magical portal means to marry him because apparently she is Nobunaga’s wife. The girl is pretty loli and of course our main Nobu teacher kinda freaks out but at the same time is all like, I am OK with this; but constantly fights against his desire because obvious fear of arrest by the police. The girl is pretty eager or gung ho about the sex but Nobu’s reaction and resisting the urge is the primary means of comedy for this show. No doubt the girl will end up going to his school and the show becomes “My Student is my Wife” or “My Teacher is my Husband” kind of fare with other students fighting for that position in a pseudo harem of sorts. This is an ok show but we’ll see how it goes, because when you think about it, the girl is basically his great-great-great-great-great grandmother or something like that. lol. Hot for grandma the kid. Nice ending song, pretty denpa. lolol.
Amazing Stranger – Another mini show that is basically anime otaku Toy Story which is yea, pretty much it. So we have a guy right, he’s an otaku and such and brought a figure of his favorite animu waifu but it ends up for unknown reasons, she is alive and does Toy Story shit like move around and talk. The first episode is basically Buzz Lightyear Toy Story 1 with the main dude trying to prevent her from learning that she is not a real space heroine but a figure. I watched episode 2 as well and she does figure it out with other toys/figures and it basically becomes Toy Story 2. The main figure girl is full 3d cg but since she is supposed to be a figure it’s ok. The rest of the show is normally animated tho. It’s an ok show with nothing special but because it’s about figures, I like it. So yea, watch more for sure.
Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai – This show is basically very similar to last season’s quintuplet girl where the main boy is good at study and he has to tutor a few girls because he was tasked too for whatever reason. Main boy is pretty generic lacking any form or strong personality or ambition/traits, except he has glasses. The two main girls are typically opposites, helpful optimist tall girl with long blue hair that is good at arts and literature with small/average boobs VS stubborn tsundere shorter girl with short orange hair/glasses that is good at math and science with larger big boobs. Comedy happens because the two girls are the top of their respective subjects in school but want to study in university in their worst subjects, which they are complete opposites. Math girl wants to study literature, literature girl wants to study science etc. And it’s up to our main boy to try to fix them. There is some romance comedy thing going on but we’ll see. The girls themselves are ok, nowhere as good as last quintuplet girls but yea, it’s it’s own thing. Not bad, will try to watch more.
Kimetsu no Yaiba – This is a pretty interesting show about a boy in feudal japan who is doing all farming and stuff when all of a sudden his family is killed by demons along with all of his little brothers and sisters except his second oldest little sister, which instead of being killed/eaten is bitten and turned into a demon herself. In an attempt to save her he carries her on her back on the snow covered mountains but is attacked by a demon slayer who tries to kill his sister, who wakes up from her unconscious state and gets swole like a demon and tries to bite/kill both of them. After some talk down and admiration of convetion, the demon slayer guy spares the boy and his sister-turned demon because she displayed that she still had some of her memories and tried to protect her brother in the fight. Tells the boy to go to some place, no doubt advice to maybe become pro and swole aswell. Made by ufotable, the guys that brought you all the fate animation stuff of late which I have not watched, the quality and animation of the show is top notch with a very interesting style. I was entertained so yea, probably watch more for quality. Hopefully it doesn’t become shit.
Fruits Basket (2019) – A girls manga turned anime in the early 2000’s that I didn’t watch cause Gundam Seed is far more important (still is) in those days and ignored and now that the manga series is officially over, is having another anime adaptation in 2019 cause of course. So far it’s what you would expect from a girls manga with a single main girl and a circle of beautiful boys due to unforeseen circumstances are in close proximity to her and living with. Basically shit is about magical boys who are actually animals from the Chinese zodiac but when they hugged by a women turn into actual animals for awhile. Yea, this show is so for girls but because throughout all my life I’ve heard this title mentioned casually I feel almost obligated to watch this new anime just to say I know whats up. Watching, for now unless it gets too cringe or gay.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure – Golden Wind – Oh boy jojo is going well and strong now. This new series is so much better than the previous one it’s laughable to think that Diamond is Unbreakable is even somehow part of the same franchisee. Good shit, will continue as per usual.
Kono Oto Tomare! – When I went on to horrible subs to download this show the first comment in the section was “Is this gay?” and the response to that was “Yes, it is, but only if you want it to be.” which pretty much means it’s gay. Story is about a boy and his club to do traditional Japanese string instruments and the usual club struggle of not having enough members. Boy is all like, man I gotta live up to my graduating sempais to not let the club die. Of course he encounters some troublemaker who wants to join the club and he resists cause of course he would. Then the show goes into all drama mode giving the backstory on why the hoodlum wants to join the club as a promise to his dead grandfather that took care of him which used to make the instrument and other hoodlum issues that relate to it. This is the first episode, what the fuck that’s way too much drama already. Yea, it doesn’t matter if in the OP that 2 girls join the club, this is a hidden gay show. Not bad but not for me.
Fairy Gone – This is an original anime production which is basically another take on jojo Stands or even Persona, personas, where the main characters have some magical powers or in this case “fairies” that look like beasts/otherworldly creatures/monsters and they fight with people and shit. Cool cool, I don’t mind bootleg stands or personas but the setting is in this alternate universe mid 1800’s steampunk Victorian world and it’s just very dark in color palette tone and very grimy. It’s not fun at all and more drama serious that it probably needs to be with an attack on titan kind of crew vibe. The pacing is dreadfully slow and so far all of the characters have like little or no character background or real development. The main girl is one dimensional for now with her sole existence is to find her childhood friend which was separated from her from her village when she was young and yea, something like that; that’s it. The music is pretty good and the opening sequence is really cool with a cool song but the show itself feels like it could have had more work and planning done, half baked. Another show that I want to like but I can’t find any further justification to watching other that good music and OP, which is a shame as this could have been something great.
Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin – Like many other shows targeted for women, focuses on some boy that has a gift for seeing occult creatures, gets transferred to some special government agency to help them keep the peace among otherworldly creatures that live in the imperial gardens, ueno park and other forestry areas in Tokyo. Boy is special so he can communicate with the different ghost things in the forest and can resolve domestic disputes between angels, tengu, oni and the such. Yea, not for me, but I’m sure someone will like this.
Hachigatsu no Cinderella Nine – Baseball show about cute girls playing baseball. A decent slice of life fare following the tradition of standard school/club sport shows involving people wanting to do something but unable to do so because issues or friends. We got hype baseball fan girl who wants to play cause she’s pro and a cast of many other girls who have no idea but are interested in playing but have no idea where to get started. The girls themselves are fairly generic and can be found in any B or C class level mobile game character designs, or to be more specific, common or rare type boats in Azurlane. Yea, that level of generic. The animation is nothing to get exited about and no girl characters to stand out, I can’t figure out who the main girl is supposed to be, which is a fail on the show’s part since it was probably a mobile game and can’t figure it out themselves. Might watch a few more but there’s not enough here for me, even with cute generic girls doing sport things.
Nande Koko ni Sensei ga – A beautiful boob show about teachers with big boobs and the students that like them. A mini show unfortunately but what it lacks in length it makes up for in quality content. So shit is short but the formula is pretty simple, we have a boy student, and for some reason they get along very well or always run into the same teacher in and outside the classroom. The teachers of course are pretty hot with big boobs and range in character archetypes, the main one being kind of a strict “demon” teacher but is very upfront and fearless but funny and charming in her own way, a form of tsundere but not sure. The main boy of the day gets into situations such as accidentally walking into a toilet and his teacher is using it, or it’s raining and they both run into a laundromat and have to change clothes but they can’t find any, or the best one yet, the teacher gets delirious and sick and the boy has to shove a pill up her ass because she demands him too. lololol. It’s all fairly jokes and intended to be sexy comedy with tons of fan service but in that vein, it’s heavily censored until blu-ray is released I guess, where I should be seeing pantie shots and nipples I just see mini chibi versions of the girl in place to obscure my view, not unlike senran kagura. The main teacher looks like the main ninja girl from senran kagura so I’m not sure if that’s intentional or not. Pretty good mini show, watch for sure. Basically “My Teacher is my Wife”, the opposite of “My Student in my Wife” in many regards.
Shoumetsu Toshi – Apparently not a sequel but from the get go this show feels like it should be a sequel. This is not a good sign. Something about some blue haired girl and escaping from a special research lab for espers or something. Finds her way into the hands of some delivery guy that does missions and shit on a moped. Some shit happens and he saves her, some other characters show up with powers and fight, they get owned and other stuff happened. Honestly this show is pretty shit, not sure if it’s based on a manga or original but the pacing is every and characters are not introduced, they just appear almost as if they assume you know them already. I do not. The girl and designs are shit, ugly and flat bland with hardly any shading at all. Bad, pass.
Namu Amida Butsu! – Rendai Utena – Gay show for women with a collection of ancient Japanese deities except as men broght upon this world for some purpose like help or fight whatever. Based off mobile game from my understanding. It’s just random slice of life with bishonen men and then some fighting for some reason, which is not really specified or elaborated upon why. The guys look like shit so that’s not good. In any regard, whatever, not for me, not for anyone really. Shit.
RobiHachi – Original anime about some random hooligan who has no money and is dumb and meets some uptight smug boy who later is tasked to capture him because he owes money to the guy’s employer or something. Some hijinks happen and they take off in a space ship to outer space with a robot rabit as their haro like mascot. Some more shit happens and their spaceship turns into some old ass mecha design and fights off some bad guys because of course it’s anime. Yea, lots of bright colors and neon jazzy feel but not really, lets go on a fun space adventure doing something or wut. Yea, this is not for me, it’s probably a hidden gay if you want it to be but not really, but probably is. Yea, not my thing but some may like. Ugly designs and foolish tone, nothing here for me. Shit.
Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki – Nice mini show about a boy from Tokyo to recently moved to Nagoya and tries to get a glipse of local culture and shit but kinda fails because it’s so normal and ordinary there untill she meets a cat eared girl who is all about Nagoya and embodies all the regional differences and quirks like speech dialets, trends and behaviors. So it’s cool for him and he just ends up bumping into her. Nice funny comedy and short bullshit show to burn time, watch for sure when I remember to dl it. Nagoya cat girl is kinda cute.
Isekai Quartet – This is a mini show that combines the characters of four major anime franchises, konosuba, overlord, rezero and tanya something and makes them chibi characters and forces them to go into school for the sake of jokes. Because it hits so many popular series, this is bound to get alot of attention and so far from what i’ve seen, it’s not bad. The characters are nicely rendered and the jokes are decent. I’m not that familar with rezero or tanya whatever witch but i’ve seen them around, so whenever they have segments about them I’m a bit lost. Otherwise this is a great mini show for anyone of any of the franchisees involved. Will watch.
Strike Witches – 501-butai Hasshin Shimasu! – Oh my god, what the fuck is this shit. What happened. This is a mini show about strike witches in semi chibi style which kind of takes a slice of life pure comedy approach to the characters of the original 501 strike witch crew except it’s so bad I can’t believe they even made this shit. No doubt to remind people of the characters and try to introduce new people to the franchise considering the original aired like back in 2008, but the animation is basically slide show level and so unrefined and crude why even bother. All the show does it retell funny comedy moments from the original show except in a 4-koma like format with very ugly character designs that can’t figure out if it should commit to being fully chibi or more proportionate. The voice acting is there but this is a waste of an opportunity. From my understanding this thing only exists to hold fans over before the true third season airs next year but who knows. Waste but I might watch some anyways because I’m retarded.
One Punch Man S2 – Holy shit it’s finally back, after a long wait One Punch Man season 2 is here and from what I saw in the first episode it’s gonna be hype. No doubt the best show this season hands down. The show loosely picks up from where the first season ended except some time has passed and the hero association is trying to recruit bad guys because there is just too many threats to fight recently and it also introduces the new main badguy, I think his name is Garo or something, can’t remember. The animation and character designs are top notch, details, smooth and doesn’t hold back in showing off it’s new style metal textures and explosions which are very nice. We are also introduced to Fubuki and her shit so it’s cool and King, the number one hero. Good shit. Pretty good opening song, not as good at the first one but still pretty good. Good shit, watch for sure.
Kenja no Mago – Something about isekai boy dying and being reborn into a new fantasy world again. Yea, once he’s born, the old world is completely not relevant anymore, which is totally bullshit. What’s the point of doing the whole isekai trope bullshit if the main character NEVER EVER uses or applies his knowledge of the old “human” normal world in his new fantasy world journeys? Fucking useless, overlord is a prime example of this and many other fantasy isekai shit. Boy might as well be just a gifted orphan and be done with it. But the main draw to this show is that the boy is like super OP, like godly OP having been raised in secret by kings, famous warriors and literally MERLIN. MERLIN. The end result is that this boy is godly as a wizard and godly good with a sword. This should not be allowed. Dad merlin is like, yo you should go to school and be a bitch cause you need to learn about kid stuff and so yea, he goes to a magic school. At the school he soon realizes that everyone is greatly inferior to him and he rules the world with his power for corruption. The end. Waste of time, there are better shit to watch, ugly girls, annoying OP boy, dumb done before concept, next.
Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san – A pretty chill calming slice of life show about living with a magical fox girl shrine maiden and the sad depressed dude that she pampers. Yea, that’s about it and I am ok with this. The main dude is a programmer and he works hard, so hard he is sad because he always stays late and people always ask him for help and he always accepts. Sad. One day he comes home and a little fox girl is there to cook and clean for him and pamper him. Ok. So pampering continues, he is mildly like, what the hell but goes along with it anyways. Repeat to some degree on a daily basis for the dude and we essentially have a show. The show has more characters based on the introduction, another fox girl but she’s not seen yet but so far it’s been kinda slow, little to no comedy at all, just pure slow slice of life. It could honestly be better, it’s a little too slow for my liking but maybe it will pick up once the other fox friend shows up. Ok, will watch more. The fox girl herself is ok, flat but nothing to get excited about, animation is ok and so is character design.
Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari – And so shield boy continues, I watched up to the latest episodes from the last season but I haven’t gotten around to watching the new ones this season but yea, so far this show has delivered and is good shit. Everything overlord wanted to be and more. Good story, good characters, good pacing. Good shit. Will continue this.
Sarazanmai – This is a super gay ass show but man it sure has some good animation and weird japan factor attached to it. So it’s like this, three gay boys are gay, in this world, everyone carries like amazon packages and shit for some reason with their “secret” or whatever, could be anything. Some shit happens and basically they all turn into kappas upon breaking some kappa statue and awakening some kappa god funny character monster. Kappa tells them to go pull some some shit and collect these little balls out of PEOPLES ASSHOLES, YES, ANUSES who are distressed or have secrets that are so big they are causing them to commit crimes like kill people or vandalize shit/theft whatever. So they do that, in very graphic and stylized fashion that could put most music videos to shame and animation that only ufotable or Bones could manage to pull off. And then they reveal the secret of that person, and they you say, damn, cause it’s so gay you can’t believe you watched it. Then you kinda wanna watch more, cause it’s so weird and japan. Hm. Maybe watch more, just for the weird japan factor, sometimes you gotta watch what people expect of you when you say you watch anime, weird shit that is.
Gunjou no Magmel – I had to go out of my way for this show since it’s not on horriblesubs but basically it’s a somewhat episodic show about people adventuring into some new island that appeared that has magical artifacts and drugs/relics and the people getting owned, only to be saved by the main boy with a hat and girl helper who goes in and saves these adventuring people. The time period is modern day, so there is like no elves or knights here to put that into perspective. The show is ok, it’s more shonen than anything in some regard but we’ll see how it goes. The animation is ok, a bit choppy at times but the character designs are ok too. We’ll see how this goes, maybe watch more depending on how I feel.
Carole & Tuesday – I believe a netflix production original which basically is about a white girl who runs away from home to become a musician and she meets a black girl with equal talents and they become friends and no doubt make it big and rich and famous and singers. The quality is above average and the world is ok, kinda fictiional future times which still looks like modern times but ya, this is not really for me, probably for white girls and music hipsters. I commend the effort put into this thing tho. Nah.
So all in all I think that covers the bulk of the shows for this spring. I wouldn’t call it bad, but it’s certainly not overflowing with good shit, if you are picky you can basically ignore everything that comes out of this season except for One Punch Man and continue watching your ongoing season. For me there is a few good shows that catch my interests and all the mini shows I kinda like so I’ll end up watching most. Decent but kinda shitty season honestly.
Will probably watch for sure: THE iDOLM@STER CINDERELLA GIRLS Theater S3, Midara na Ao-chan wa Benkyou ga Dekinai, Senryuu Shoujo, Hitoribocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu, Joshikausei, Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai, Kimetsu no Yaiba, Fruits Basket (2019), JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure – Golden Wind, Nande Koko ni Sensei ga, Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki, Isekai Quartet, One Punch Man S2, Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san, Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari
On the Fence: Nobunaga-sensei no Osanazuma, Amazing Stranger, Strike Witches – 501-butai Hasshin Shimasu! (oh god), Kenja no Mago, Sarazanmai (gay)
