As the world continues to be ruined with the Russian Invasion of Ukraine and the global economic meltdown beginning as a result of two years of covid pandemic relief stimulus coming back to bite us and the stock market crashing, rampant inflation, insane housing prices, all time-high food and gas prices; at least we have anime to thank for our very stressed and uncertain times. Yes, while the world has largely reopened to travel and slowly moves to more normalcy from pandemic times, Japan on the other hand are being fuck all nope still, only hinting that they may open by the summer and even more so to tourism, which is discouraging to say the least. EMS has STILL not opened back up between Canada to Japan and I have packages on boats that will get here in 3 months time because DHL shipping is insanely high. Add the fact that my dad got his leg broken and a dislocated shoulder, unknown job application status leaving me without new info for weeks or new development, I guess you can say that I’m not exactly having the best time for my mental health. I love stability and predictability, and right now, that couldn’t be further from the reality with current world affairs. But hay, at least I got anime right? (of which I don’t watch as much because vtubers take priority)
Anyways, let’s see whats on this season, looks to be quite alot of shit, ALOT of shit in fact, something like over 30 plus new shows this spring season. Wow.
Estab-Life – Great Escape – Some 3d bullshit that features a variety of girls of varying design quality. It’s a kind of show that I would probably never watch to begin with so I skimmed this shit about 5 minutes in. Some action, some girls, some battle or whatever in modern times, maybe some secret team or conspiracy. Whatever. Pass
Otome Game Sekai wa Mob ni Kibishii Sekai desu – More isekai trash except this time the premise is that some fool guy dies after playing an otome game for like 3 or 4 days non-stop because his sister told him to beat it for her cause she just wants to listen to the event lines and the voices of the characters but not actually play the game. He is forced to do this because his sister knows some secret or something that he doesn’t want to reveal to their parents which is not disclosed but it doesn’t really matter at that point since he dies. He is transported into the same world of the otome dating game which is fantasy with some weird mech high science elements which is like what, oh and it’s also kinda highschool setting too for some reason. With the knowledge of the game since he beat it, he spends the next few years growing up until the world catches up to the point of the start of the game in preparation. Some shit happens and he gets money or whatever and eases into his new isekai game world life. Whatever. This show is basically the guy version of “I was reincarnated as the villianess, all routes lead to doom!” except with a dude and probably shittier. Forgettable everything and mediocre animation/characters, not even sure there is waifus or not, still shit. Pass.
Jantama Pong – A mini gag show spin-off based off Mahjong Souls, a mobile game of the same name developed/published by Yostar, the same company as Azur Lane. I have seen some of the characters from merch seen in the Yostar store but other than that, I am unfamiliar with the game and series outside of that. Looks kinda jokes with a cute/funny cat girl being the main girl but yea, unlikely to watch this since I have no stake in this. Pass.
Love Live! Nijigasaki Gakuen School Idol Doukoukai S2 – I had no idea they were going to do a S2 of the Love Live Nijigasaki school idol anime, the love live where the entire premise of the characters was that they didn’t want to join the love live competition and just be idols their own way. Wow. Love live is working double time I guess, since originally I thought this would be a one time experiment but apparently not. Considering that they also made Love Live! Superstar!! last year, a more traditional take of the school idol concept with the main orange haired lead and a general drive to actually want to go to the competition and win, aren’t they potentially cannibalizing themselves with running two squads/shows/IPs at the same time? Just kinda odd to me. Considering that I think the Sunshine girls are still doing performances, it’s just so weird. At this point, Love Love as a media franchise has gotten so big I can’t imagine anyone except the hardcore fans following up and keeping up with everything. I skimmed the show, looks like they are having fun and singing songs, Billy Elish is doing well as the manager of the crew, it is undetermined yet if they actually want to compete in love live or not. Quality is still good but regardless, pass.
Shokei Shoujo no Virgin Road – A head fake isekai show that turns out is not really an isekai show, but rather, a literal ANTI isekai show. What does this even mean then? What is an anti isekai show to begin with? Well then, the show itself starts off with a standard fool boy in our modern times getting transported into a new fantasy world. When he awakens he is found blessed with some magical power as being isekai’d normally does. After the castle magical people assess his ability he is quickly deemed unworthy and tossed out onto the streets, apparently his summoners thought he wasn’t good enough. He is then greeted by a cheerful girl that introduces him to this new world and asks him why he was throw out. The boy says that he doesn’t have any power and that’s why he was thrown out, but the girl doesn’t believe him, she tells him that visitors from another world are common in this world and shows him the streets of their town, filled with Japanese and western restaurants and foods and the fact that she is speaking Japanese to him in the first place is proof of that cross-cultural mixing. She offers to bring him to the local temple shrine/oracle/church place where they can test his magic ability and discover his true power. He happily agrees. After a brief ritual it’s soon revealed this his ability is quite powerful, the ability to erase matter at will, a la jojo okyasu fame and is elated but no sooner than he can say a few words, the girl that brought him to the church appears behind him and promptly stabs him in the head, killing him almost instantly. The boy falls to the ground and kinda overheats and explodes. The girl it turns out, is actually a magical girl of sort, trying to fight the castle rulers and stop them from bringing in new summoned people from our world, to fight the corruption and etc of whatever because obviously these summoned visitors are too strong to be left alive. So yea, the cheerful girl is basically an assassin magical girl aimed at killing isekai fools because they are a problem. Alright then, this show is interesting, let’s see how it goes. The character design of the main girl is honestly kinda bad, with poor color choices for her design but nevertheless it’s still ok since it appears there is other magical girls that are also part of her crew. Will try to watch more, it’s different to say the least and has the potential to easily be sidetracked and go off the rails from it’s original concept but we’ll see if they can manage.
Gunjou no Fanfare – Gay boys and professional horse racing high school. Of course it would be gay if you include it with a high school setting and any sports for that matter but for some reason because it’s horse racing it makes it feel even more gay than usual. The main boy is some former ex-idol and wants to be a professional jocky and apparently there is a high school that is focused on this kind of sport (yea sure). He meets some other wild spirit white boy that is the opposite of him and of course the duo couple is formed. Yea, this is 100% for women and authored by a women, but I don’t know how many would be interested in the horse racing aspect, horses yes for sure, but horse racing? I have no idea, I suppose there’s a market for everything. Gay horses. Pass.
Paripi Koumei – This is a pretty interesting show about zhuge liang/kong ming from dynasty warrriors/three kingdoms era of china being transported into modern day japan and basically living and trying to help/support a newly discovered idol girl he just so happened to meet that helped him adjust into his new world. Yea, this is technically isekai but along the same likes as the devil is a part-timer or gabriel dropout, which is a good thing cause I like those shows. With that said this is something of a comedy/slice of life/idol/singing show combined and the premise itself is not only pretty jokes but pretty entertaining as well. Will definitely try to watch more of this as it seems to be good shit and the girl kong ming helps is interesting as well. Will watch more.
Aharen-san wa Hakarenai – The show features some very short girl in school that has difficulty communicating and some boy that sits right behind her in class trying to befriend her and the such. It’s very similar to last years/last seasons Komi-chan can’t communicate but just from the tone and pacing it’s probably worse overall but at the same time, more gag and joke focused than the former show. The pacing itself is kinda disjointed and does not flow very well ehivh ends up resulting in the show being very slow and boring. The girl herself, Aharen-san, isn’t especially notable, just being a slow/lazy quiet girl that doesn’t say much. Will probably pass this unless for some reason people say this is the shit.
Love All Play – Gay badminton boys. I guess spring truly is the season for gay sports anime targeted for women. Another very very similar gay sports show which honestly, is probably better than most because the character designs are OK and they actually take the sport aspect of it more seriously than most as opposed to just full on layering over the stereotypical archetypes onto characters that come with typical gay sports anime. I can’t remember if I watched this one in full or skimmed it, regardless, it’s the same premise, I don’t even have to describe it anymore. Next.
Shadowverse Flame – Oh shit son, what the fuck is this shit? LOL. They really trying to make shadowverse anime into some kind of yugioh replacement but sadly it just doesn’t work very well especially since the character designs are also trying to be cartoon-ish outlandish appealing to kids like what yugioh tried to do. This is the second time they tried making a shadowverse anime and it’s the same as the first, just a bunch of main guy kids in school learning how to play shadowverse but this time the entire school they are in is a special school for people who want to git gud at the digital card game What is retarded is that the main boy doesn’t even know to play and for some reason got recommended to go to the school via the no maxillian pegasus figure that i’m sure will hold some kind of dueling tournament for sure. Nice try, better than the first attempt but still, there’s nothing about this that makes me want to watch a bootleg yugioh anime.
Kono Healer, Mendokusai – The basic premise of this show is that there is some little dark elf priest healer girl that is going around and helping shit but she’s shit and while she was trying to help met some generic hero guy and she saved him or some shit. The problem is however is that she’s not good at her job and is kinda lazy while the other hero guy is just a generic idiot. Layer on some very heavy Japanese-centric wordplay and dialog that give off the impression of a Japanese stand up comedy sketch and you get this show. While the ‘healer’ dark elf girl herself is fine visually, she is as dull as a nail and her voice acting doesn’t help, the same can be said of the main guy, it could be any generic fool with a helmet on where you can’t see his face. The premise, which could have been cool, is just shit, this is just Japanese stand up comedy re-packaged as fantasy anime bullshit. Pass this shit.
Kawaii dake ja Nai Shikimori-san – This show is about very wussy and bad luck boy that just so happens to have a very cute girlfriend that everyone in his class and school fawns over for being good looking, smart and popular. This is fine but the main thing that this show is about is that the girl is not just cute but, rather she is ‘cool’ too and ‘protects’ the boy from many outside terrors, be it falling debris, bullies or other obstacles. It’s a unique take on the premise that the girl in anime are usually fragile and cute girls that need to be protected and such and turns it around in reverse for the boy. The problem however is that this premise is just so bad for the boy, he is such a weakling and pathetic that it’s hard to even imagine that this guy has a girlfriend as good as the main girl, he has very little redeeming traits other than maybe that he’s ‘kind’ which is hard to not say that he’s super wussy all round. I’m sure there is an audience for this show, just not sure who it’s for. Pass.
Kunoichi Tsubaki no Mune no Uchi – I am not entirely sure how to classify this show but my guess is slice of life, mild action, comedy, mild yuri gay? There are a bunch of female ninjas living in the forest and they are being trained to be good kunoichi’s and all that and they have a ninja teacher and such that guides the way. One of the founding advice is to be careful and never trust men and as such, most of the girls in the school/village have never seen a man at all in there entire lives, they are kind of like amazons I suppose. Except the main title ninja girl, Tsubaki, who is reaching that age of puberty and is very curious about boys and men in general, wants to meet one and see what they are all about and why they are to be feared. The first episode has her and her ninja friends doing some shit and getting into trouble all the while encountering a group of men for some reason. Tsubaki gets flustered and makes a big deal about it but passes out and is reined in back by her peers. The show has a large cast of somewhat bland looking but unique characters notable an emphasis on very large foreheads with the main girl Tsubaki having a huge one, which is almost laughable but then again, 5-head is all the rage so I guess sure? The show itself is well animated and the lines, colors are very crisp and defined but the pacing, at least from the first two episodes I watched is somewhat choppy but maybe it’ll get better. Not sure, I might watch more of this but we’ll see, ok.
Spy x Family – Touted as the most popular and hyped show this season, spy x family’s premise is fairly simple; you have a spy that is tasked to infiltrate a neighboring country and get information on a high ranking government official’s affairs by getting close to his son, who is just starting elementary school and thus must put together/find a child that will be willing to cooperate with him and also a wife that can play the part of a standard women in order to blend into society. Easy? Not really as the little girl he ends up adopting as his daughter is a psychic and the women he finds to be his wife is secretly an assassin. Oh boy, you see where this is going right? By the sheer composition of this family, you can only except hi-jinks and more troubles. It doesn’t help that the husband and wife are oblivious to each other’s secret jobs/purpose with the only one knowing everything is Anya, his newly adopted psychic daughter. With fairly good animation, premise and flow and an interesting mix of comedy, action, suspense, drama and general wholesomeness I can understand why this show would be popular and appealing to many. Will probably watch for sure.
Ao Ashi – Gay soccer boys. Opened this shit up, saw a boy kick the ball a few times and headbutt an opponent, got carded, didn’t make state/aka make him loose a scholarship/top soccer schools didn’t want to accept him anymore and he ruined his life or something. Some other school recruiter saw him and wants to give him a chance or something, begins gay soccer journey or whatever. Pass. Next.
Yuusha, Yamemasu – This show is pretty interesting as it’s basically a non-isekai version of ‘the devil is a part-timer’ except the main character is the yuusha, the hero. So basically, we in fantasy land right, there is a demon lord and shit trying to ruin and take over the world right, the normal human kingdom sent out a hero party to defeat the demon lord as per usual. In this party is the main hero, he’s super op and honestly, he doesn’t even need the other 4 or 5 party members to defeat the demon lord and it’s army, he can do it all on his own. Lest to say because he is so powerful, he easily defeats the demon lord and it’s army and they retreat. Upon his return to his kingdom, he finds himself a pariah, an outcast to his surprise and to his dismay, he had saved the world, why do people hate him? He has the superman problem, he is so strong and defeated the demon lord so easily and effortlessly that the people didn’t think he was human, no one could be that strong they said so they began to frame him as some devil or monster that cannot exist, just like superman, because while he is good now, there’s nothing to stop him if he turns against the people. He visited the king, which asked him to defeat the demon lord and he says basically sorry, you must leave the kingdom, you are too strong, you are a threat so just leave, thank you for defeating the demon lord, but honestly, you are more dangerous now than the demon lord ever was. So he leave, now an unemployed hero he has nowhere to go, nothing to do. So what does he decided to do? Well shit, he decides to go back to the demon lord’s castle and begs the demon lord to give him a job to help rebuild the demon realm and try to conquer the world instead. lol. Opps, no jobs for me, guess I’ll have to switch sides then. lol. The demon lord, a cute demon girl of course refuses to do so, the hero had literally owned her just a few days ago and destroyed her castle. But he persists with her others sub-commanders and they decide to hire him to help rebuild their army and castle among other things. lol this show is jokes. The premise is pretty funny and it’s a combination of comedy, working anime and I suppose mild drama and society. Will probably try to watch more of this, it’s fun.
Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai S3 – As it returns again, Kaguya-sama is back with S3 and the love battles continues for comedy supremacy in the anime sphere. Leaving off after the second season, there is now the addition of Lino the new member of the student council and various other new faces which have need to be elaborated upon. Once again, top notch animation, pacing, flow and comedy and for some reason, even better than usual, I guess they have more money now. Hopefully it doesn’t get to serious and deep/reflection-like for side-characters like it did for a bit in S2 and they focus on more of the funny shit. Gud shit, watch for sure.
Dance Dance Danseur – For women/gay men, about a boy that wanted to do ballet all his life as a kid but got bullied because all the kids at school said he was a faggot fruit for liking ballet. Fast forward a few years later from those elementary school days and he has committed to doing kung-fu because it is ‘manly’ and ‘masculine’ shit that his dad always wanted him to do and pursue. His dad was a stuntman and is now dead. He’s good at kung-fu but deep down he still loves ballet, gotta hide in the closet you know. Some shit happens and gets introduced to a girl that does ballet, more shit happens and he ends up taking lessons at the girl’s ballet school under her mom, the teacher. The boy wants to let loose his gay ballet urges and he finally accepts it but the instructor says you have to commit or just don’t. Some more shit happens and yea, ballet boys ensues. For women/gay men. Not bad, but not for me.
Date a Live IV – I technically shouldn’t watch this, it’s season 4 of date a live, a anime franchise that I honestly never got into and don’t know entirely what it is about and so I decided to watch the first episode of this. Ok, so it’s literally date a live, main boy has to date and befriend a bunch of girls that just so happen to be goddess/spirits/super-natural beings in order to not have them go berserk and fuck shit up in town, it’s like a whole operation and organization. Think evangelion nerv, but instead of command giving him orders to battle angels, the headquarters underground are giving him live tips on dating lines in order to woo the girls at the moment. Ok sure lol. It’s kind of jokes but there is also action and drama/larger story at play but yea interesting. The main draw is the art of the girls which is pretty good, since they are drawn by Tsunako, the same artist who does the character designs for hyperdimenional neptunia. Yea, ok. If I were to ever watch this, i literally have to watch like 10 years worth of shit just to catch up, but you never know.
Koi wa Sekai Seifuku no Ato de – Power rangers anime but a romance comedy because the red ranger wants to have a relationship with rita replusa because why not in secret. Yea, that pretty much sums up this show nicely. Red ranger is a swole boi with a one track mind, he doesn’t do anything buy work out to get swole and wait for the battle to beat of the baddies from the evil organization that wants to take over the world. One day he ends up fighting the new boss of the evil organization and he instantly falls in love with her after fighting. He basically stalks her when she is not in her battle clothes and is a normal everyday girl and basically says, ‘yo, I know you are my enemy but do you want to go on a date? i think i love you’. lol wut. bad girl is like wtf but after thinking about it agrees and they end up having a date and ends up liking him too. The basic premise of this show then is trying to keep their relationship secret from their respective organizations while being all lovey dovey and shit in a romeo and julliet kind of way. ok sure. The character designs honestly are not exactly my thing, oversimplified and exaggerated but we’ll see. Decent premise but I feel that it will drag on and become repetitive with the same gags over time, probably not continue, but we’ll see.
Healer Girl – A weird show about a world of healing in that singing is recognized as a legit form of medicine and people train to become ‘healers’ or rather, girls that can sing songs that are able to heal people, be it cuts, bruises or other internal even mental problems. The premise of the show is quite interesting and is obviously trying to put a whole new spin on the whole musical anime genre that is not an idol anime but the character designs are just ugly and plain man, especially their work or ‘healing’ clothes, it’s literally just a white robe with little or FGO Enkidu lite. Ugly shit. I am not sure if this is original or not but it definely feels like it, the pacing is a bit off and slow and considering that they have musical song dialogue between characters, I think it would probably have to be original. Interesting, but ultimately not for me.
Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari S2 – Oh boy shield boy is back and the start of the show is already kind of weird and or feels rushed lol. So, yea, shit happens and all of a sudden there is a few characters in the shield hero’s party that I can’t remember how they were introduced or maybe I missed an OVA or something/movie and I can’t remember them, like the green haired girl that likes the bow-hero or some shit. But yea, they waste no time in getting on with shit, absolutely zero recap of previous events which honestly, would have been beneficial since it’s been a few years and I am hazy on what the hell happened before in the past season. Anyways, some new threat has emerged and it’s some giant turtle tortoise thing that they must kill or else the world is blown up and it’s more important than the waves because reasons. The first episode honestly starts pretty shit, with alot of round table talk with countries and whatnot of how to tackle the giant turtle but who knows what the director is thinking with no recap. The quality of animation also seems a bit lower than the original but maybe it’ll get better or get worse, we’ll see. Based on the first episode, it’s kind of a shaky start, I’ll continue to watch more of this but if it gets worse, might have to drop unless it gets better.
Shachiku-san wa Youjo Yuurei ni Iyasaretai – This is a nice cute little chill show about a women office worker that always has to stay overtime at work because japan society and ends up attracting a little ghost girl that tries her best to get her to go home or at least finish up her work quick so that she can go home. The basic premise is very similar in many ways to koboyashi’s maid dragon or even that fox girl show where the fox girl tries to comfort the overworked salaryman after work but instead of those other shows, it’s at the workplace itself. The main women is a programmer and is base slave worker yes woman, the little ghost girl is very small, almost chibi like in proportions and roundy. The premise of the show is simple but it works, in an almost clockwork kind of way you would expect it too. The introduction of the show show other little paranormal creatures that will also appear in the show which is nice. Chill slice of life chill show, good shit, will try to watch more for sure.
Birdie Wing – Golf Girls’ Story – If there was ever a show that could be described as Initial G, then this would be it. For a lack of a better term, this is a golf anime, in itself a first of it’s kind to my knowledge that features a couple of girls that do golf things. The main character is a blonde American girl that does ‘street golf’ or some underground bullshit where people play golf in urban street settings and bet and shit on each other. It sounds bizarre and weird that’s because it is and since this is anime, sure, let it pass. The other main girl is a pro Japanese golf girl that is in the regular golf world full of rich and privileged people. Through a chance encounter, they meet and play golf, blonde girls direct and power drives vs Japanese girl’s elegant and highly refined technique. They come out about even and are both inspired by each other, lest to say the hoodlum white girl will end up joining the pro tour and trying to beat her and win more money, her main reason why she played underground golf to begin with. Truth be told, this is basically girls sport anime Happy Gilmore and I am OK with that. As an original anime, at least I can say that I will be surprised if I do continue to watch this, as it’s not bad honestly. The girls look ok enough and I was entertained, we’ll see how it goes as original anime tend to fuck up easily but then again, that’s the risk for all original anime after all. We’ll see.
Shijou Saikyou no Daimaou, Murabito A ni Tensei suru – Another isekai show called “The Greatest Demon Lord Is Reborn as a Typical Nobody” is fairly self explanatory. We got demon lord pro, wins and conquers everything, decides he wants to have friends and a normal life, kills himself to be reborn in the future with all his powers and memories intact. Several hundred years later he is reborn as a baby and thus begins his journey to magic school and the usual tropes. He gets a couple of cute girls along the way to and during school years, namely a white haired elf girl and a pink haired succubus girl that he meets in the first few days after joining the magic school. If this show seems familiar to you, then you are correct, the entire premise of this show is an exact carbon copy of 2020’s “Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha” a la Anos Voldigoad and his two cute girl underlings at magic school. What the fuck lol. Damn man, like, seriously, I know isekai is super popular and over represented in anime but to adapt another light novel with the exact same premise so soon is just lol. Like, sure I was entertained honestly but compared to so many other more interesting and creative takes on the demon lord does x isekai trope, it’s a bit saddening that this show exists. I cannot deny that the two girls once again are pretty attractive and cute but what makes this show a bit different is that the main demon reborn boy is a bit more awkward and more comedic/dumb elements come into play as opposed to Anos Voldigoad’s run. I’ll watch a bit more of this to see if it pans out but I can’t see this ending up better than “Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha” at least in terms of raw power fantasy level anime and cute girls.
Deaimon – We have a man that left home to be in a band or some shit and after years of failure to make it big returns home to kyoto to live with his family that operates a traditional Japanese sweets shop. Upon arriving he is greeted by his dad punching him saying something along the lines of why come back now fool, not in a overly serious manner however. Despite being the heir apparent to the business he doesn’t know how to make the sweets, mainly because as a child he grew so attached to them because they were so pretty and couldn’t bear seeing people buy them in the store and eat them. Instead, his dad presents to him his chosen successor to the shop, a young elementary school girl that he’s never seen before that apparently is very passionate about sweet making. On the side his dad tells him that your job is to act like a dad/big brother figure to the girl since she is kinda like an orphan or something, which is not yet elaborated upon yet. The girl is kinda fierce and tries too hard and looks down on the main guy’s lack of enthusiasm for sweet making but some shit happen and they become good. The show itself is kind of slice of life with a wholesome mild comedic edge since the main guy is basically asked to be a not-dad/not-brother figure for this new girl he’s never met before. The premise is pretty solid and interesting and the pacing ok, the character designs are fairly plain and boring but I guess for this kind of show, it’s ok. I’m not sure, I wouldn’t mind watching more of this since it’s food related but there’s alot of other shit this season I don’t know if I can handle this one. Probably not but we’ll see.
RPG Fudousan – This is a pretty cute slice of life chill show about a girl wizard that goes into town and wants to work for the government helping people find houses to live in. The world is in relative peace and it has been many years since there was any war or aggression by anyone, everyone is chill even the demon lord and shit so there is little use to adventurers now, that’s why alot of them end up just working for the government as civil servants and abandoning their original yuusha dreams/adventures. The main girl is a wizard and ends up being employed at a real estate branch of the government to help people find new homes, within this branch is a former priest, warrior and and monster-water-dragon girl which for some reason was brought there because she is so cute and can speak monster languages to act as a mascot. Basically when a customers comes in they go around and help them find a place to live, based on their specifications, for instances customers may be other former heroes or other monsters. There is a lot of comedy and hijinks between the characters and throughout the process of finding their client a new home but it’s all good and chill cute fun. The style of this show is heavy pastel color and the character designs reminds me a bit of is the order a rabbit, which is good shit. Will probably watch for sure, this is a good yet unique slice of life fantasy.
Machikado Mazoku S2 – Second season of poor misfit bad luck girl turned into a demon returns and it’s about the same as the first season honestly. Dialogue heavy and very fast paced with their jokes and puns, it’s very easy to miss what they are talking about or gags which was somewhat of a problem or me the first time around still persists. But maybe it’s not a problem, maybe it’s just me, maybe I’m just too slow and dumb to understand the high level japanese jokes, i dunno. Despite this, I somewhat feel compelled to watch this still considering that I survived the first season and since this got a second season, it must be good right? This series is apparently very popular in Japan, enough to warraent a second season and so yea, I guess I’ll try to watch more, maybe it gets dummed down more for my western smol brain to understand. The art, animation and character designs are top notch for this show which is why I am hesitant to just ignore it, I like shiny pretty things for my eyes.
Heroine Tarumono! Kiraware Heroine to Naisho no Oshigoto – Something about a relatively ugly thick eyebrow girl joining school from the country and being oblivious to popular culture and idols but ends up in the same class seated besides two of the hottest male idols in the industry. After some shit and bad first impressions she basically ends up needing a job because her family is under rough times or something, so she applies to a lot of jobs but all refuse her except one. That one job that accepts her apparently is as a assistant manager to the two idol boys that she sits besides in school, which she had no idea about that they were idols. I suppose she is the best person for the job because she won’t bend so easily to the two boys fighting each other and is ugly so no threat to fans and such from an onlookers perspective. Ultimately this is an anime for girls/women and comedy tropes. The animation is shit and the character designs are shit, the guys are not even that good. So it’s shit. Some women might find this fun but most probably not, there are better shit out there I would think. Next.
Gaikotsu Kishi-sama, Tadaima Isekai e Odekakechuu – This show can be summed up as Overlord isekai skeleton knight but more funny and dumber, without any form of nation building, empire building, bigger story or conflict and less minions. Seriously, this show is literally a what if Overlord if lord momoga was full of shit and crack and didn’t care so much and just wanted to be a noob for fun. Guy dies/is isekaied into the game world that he played as in his MMO and it just so happens it’s a skeleton avatar with mighty shiny armor. The first episode showed some promise with some cool battle and power, trying to save some princess and her servant from being raped by a bunch of bandits but other than that, the following episode becomes painfully routine and boring, with him trying to farm herbs and gain the trust of local girl/villagers. The wow factor and power seen in the first episode is nowhere to be seen. While the show does hint at a larger story brewing, the main gimmick, the fact that he is a skeleton without his helmet on is hardly a plot point to begin with, he might as well be Goblin Slayer for all everyone cares. The quality of animation and character design is nothing to write home about but he does seem to get a nice girl traveling companion later on in the show, which has yet to show herself, maybe then the show will get better then. I might continue this until she shows up but otherwise, nothing special at all from this show, we’ll see.
Mahoutsukai Reimeiki – Some magic shit, some party, gathering some useless boy, strong witch girl, big boob witch girl and some furry bait go traveling to establish some fix shit i dunno something else mystery. Yea, this show is not my thing. At least it’s not isekai. After a brief look, this is actually a sequel to an earlier light novel/anime series from 2017 called “Grimoire of Zero” or “Zero kara Hajimeru Mahō no Sho” which i probably reviewed in some capacity in years past. I obviously didn’t watch it since I have no idea what this shit is about but I do know that the character designs from the original work was done by Yoshinori Shizuma, from kancolle boat fame. Yea, character designs are not bad in this show but I have no idea what’s going on, nor do I care. Pass.
Tomodachi Game – Another bait ass Japanese horror/survival game anime story that really plays along with the popularity of Squid Game and many others that came before it. You got a bunch of fool high-school kids that for some reason wake up kidnapped or transported into the tomodachi game, a place where some communist looking mascot statue boy thing asks them to play games of friendship in order to win money and or escape the game world. Usual bait ass shit happens, montages of friendships of the past, their bonds, so true of themselves only to be broken and betrayed when they play the games, which seemingly is so simple but encourages backstabbing and greed. The premise is done better than most others but it still doesn’t make it any more fresh or any of the characters likeable or wanting to root for. Squid Game baiters might love this shit but for me, pass.
Onipan! – Some shit mini show about a bunch of oni-girls that live in the normal world in normal life coming to the city from the country. The main thing about this show is that the three girls don’t seem like professional voice actors but rather, just normal girls, which is by design I think since this is supposed to be some side project to launch some idol group, no doubt the main 3 girls of the show correspond to the ones in the idol unit. While not bad, probably not worth my time watch any of this ignore.
And there we have it, fuck. This season is jammed packed with way too many anime to even remember honestly. Looks like the two year backlog of delayed and postponed anime finally caught up after a relatively light and slim winter season, this Spring season is loaded with so many anime shows of varying quality it’s hard to gauge how many are good and whats bad. Nothing terribad but nothing amazing must watch either, other than standard hype trains on a number of shows. Something for everyone I suppose, unless you are into mecha, then you might as well kill yourself, only gundam can fix this.
Try to watch more: I don’t know man, there’s too many shows to watch, I can’t even list them. Just have to see what I end up watching at the end of the year recap.
