Anime Review Fall Season

Fall Anime 2022

As the world continues it’s steady decline into madness and ruin we have anime always there to brighten up our lives. With the onset of the collapse of the modern tech industry such as giants like Meta loosing something like 60-70% of their stock value compared to last year, social media hub Twitter being brought by Elon Musk for a laughably overpriced cost of 44 billion dollars and driving it into the ground with layoffs there’s a lot of things happening around this fall season. Not to mention the general uncertainly and unstable state of the world we are in right now with Covid-19 still lingering, economic uncertainly and the war in Ukraine still ongoing, say nothing of the troubles with China and Iran elsewhere in the world such as the UK with Queen Elizabeth dying and the new PM Truss fiasco. Yea, we could all do for some escapism, that’s why we have one of the most jam packed stacked anime seasons in a while with many high profile shows airing, let’s check it out.

Shinmai Renkinjutsushi no Tenpo Keiei – Honestly a pretty solid show about a girl who after having been orphaned due to her parents getting ambushed and killed by bandits on a trip to the city, decides to dedicate her life to alchemy once an alchemist visits the orphanage and amazes her. After studying and a mild time skip she is faced with her final exam to graduate from alchemy school and after some hard shit showing how pro she ends, ends up passing with high marks and is praised by her master and the school. As a gift for her graduation, her master, a pro alchemist decides to buy her her own workshop in the distant countryside, which she finds to be a complete dump since it was so cheap to buy. Hence the begining story of our girl alchemist girl which I am sure will meet a bunch of friends and have mild funny adventure. The show itself is not bad, pretty solid and I was solidly entertained, animation is decent and decent character designs. Might try watching more but honestly with the amount of good shows this season, will probably drop soon. We’ll see.

Golden Kamuy S4 – After about a year or so of hiatus, Golden Kamuy returns in it’s S4, damn, this along with JoJo series is probably one of the longest running series that I have been following in recent memory. Kind of hard to believe that it’s been like 4 years since this show started in 2018 and it’s still so good and interesting and with that said, it’s amazing that Ogata is still alive, shitttt. After the insane ending of the previous season, once again we leave off with Ogata riding off away with one eye standing up on a horse with no doubt more dumb shit and ace storytelling shit. Will watch for sure.

Cool Doji Danshi – A mini show about a bunch of bishonen gayboys that are dumb but because they are pretty/handsome, all the women around them still think they are cute/cool even though they are so air headed and dumb. Taken in a somewhat episodic form with each 10 minute offering showcasing the daily lives of a dude, it’s mildly amusing and is complete women bait, but it works so well. We’ll see.

Shinobi no Ittoki – Shit tryhard show about a boy who is so dumb and retarded that he is actually the heir to the modern day shinobi ninja clan and he didn’t even realize it until he tries to get assassinated during school. Main boy lived a relatively normal life but his mom has been keeping it a secret from him all these years. Boy gets into a situation where some girl confesses to him and tries to seduces him, unknown to him they go back to her house without parents around, unknown to him, she is a rival ninja and ambushes him with dudes hiding in the closet and under the bed. Some shit happens and ninjas from his clan/crew go and save him, which largely consist of people he already knows in his life, like his uncle, family friend girl, which is kinda like a bodyguard to him be doesn’t realize it. Once he is out of danger he learns the truth from his mom who is like the acting big boss of the ninja clan and he now has to become a pro ninja and shit. Bait ass show, shit girls, horrible main boy, annoy wussy bitch, dumb ass retarded premise. Could have been alright, but it’s not. Shit show. Nope.

Vazzrock the Animation – Gay.

Chainsaw Man – Alright, as one of the most hyped up anime shows in recent memory, Chainsaw Man does it right with the action horror/battle kind of fare. It’s definitely a non-traditional kind of show that brings a lot of modern sensibilities and style to what is an otherwise largely done and played out shonen genre and formula. The main dude is largely considered an underdog anti-hero but he has good motivations towards doing good shit, mainly striving towards his goal of being able to grope and touch the boobs of his female co-workers/teammates. After having a rough life growing up poor, alone and outcast from society and in huge debt, our main boy Denji meets a little chainsaw dog thing. It’s cute and shit but he ends up using it to hunt demons since apparently that is a thing in this world. Without going too much into detail, shit happens and he ends up gaining the ability to turn into a man with a chainsaw head and arms and ends up in an organization that deals with killing demons and shit cause they are a problem. The animation is very well done and the action is brutal with lots of blood and gore, good shit. The character designs honestly are painfully simplistic at their core, with the bulk of the cast just wearing a white shirt and red tie but I suppose that’s part of the appeal of this modern look, it’s easy to draw for fanart and super easy to cosplay for. With attractive and likable characters like Denji and Power, one of the show’s centerpiece waifus/harley quinn clone and you have a formula for success. As Attack on Titan soon reaches it’s anime ending, Chainsaw Man is now the new king of brutal action battle in the shonen sphere, this is the next newest hottest shit along with Demon Slayers as one of the most popular anime shit around. Watch for sure.

Yama no Susume – Next Summit – I did not know it when I watched it but this is apparently the third season of this show, I wouldn’t have known if I didn’t look it up. This is a base climbing anime with a bunch of cute girls doing their club thing and doing the hobby and shit. It’s in the same vein as Yuru camp and other similar chill slice of life club-school shows like that fishing show or whatever. It’s not bad as the characters are visually appealing but it feels super rushed as the first episode was basically a 24 minute summary of the previous 2 seasons, mind you the previous two seasons were mini shows of like 3 or 10 minutes but it still feels odd. I’d like to watch more as it seems chill but I’m not sure, maybe I should just ignore the previous 2 seasons since they basically did a speed run recap of the whole club/crew coming together but we’ll see. Might watch more but we’ll see.

Human Bug Daigaku – This is an interesting show based off some old ass manga that I can only imagine about a man that is about to get hanged in Japan for allegedly killing some guy via the death penalty. He goes through the ritual but for some reason he is still alive, he survives his hanging to everyone surprise and they will be not allowed to try to kill him again since his punishment by hanging has already been done, just that he lived. Instead of being freed, he is placed into some kind of lab where they examine him since the chances of survival are so slim and want to study him and try to do a whole bunch of random deadly things to him to see if he can survived in the name of science I guess. The show is not bad and despite how poorly animated and flash level character designs from the 80s it had my attention, it was not bad. In a shitter season I might watch a few more of this but nah, this is a pass.

Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! (The Eminence in Shadow) – This show pulled one of the greatest bait and switches for a first episode I have ever seen, what the fuck bitches. The entire show starts off focusing on some high-school girl and her daily life, she’s popular, good looking and loved by all except one guy in glass who just doesn’t care that much about her at all. The point of view of this show is entirely from her and she gets into a situation where she has to walk home from school alone at night. Because this is anime, she is kidnapped and it is revealed by her abductors that she was once a popular idol several years ago and that this has happened to her before, heavily implying that she was raped and ended up leaving the idol/entertainment industry due to her trauma. When things are not going so well for our girl, that one guy who doesn’t care about her shows up with a mask similar to Kick-Ass and beats the shit out of the two abductors, using martial arts and his special crowbar moves. He saves the girl and ties up the baddies and leaves saying his shit about hero of justice and etc. The girl is left pondering who this guy was and how he can repay him, unknown to him that it was the dude who didn’t care about her. The next day we are in the girls room and the tv is on and it says that a male student was hit by a car and killed. Fuck. You bitches. No. This is an isekei isn’t it? MOTHERFUCKERS. THE SHOW IS ABOUT THE DEAD ISEKEI EDGELORD BOY? FUCK. WHAT ABOUT THE GIRL IN THE NORMAL WORLD. THE CROWBARS? FUCK. The next thing we see is our idiot talking about his new life in his fantasy/hybrid modern world with elves and shit and we see him in a black cape with a crew of new beautiful anime bitches that are his shadow hunters or whatever shit. What the fuck is this shit. I cared more about pre-dead world and the girl than this fool boy. Different than the usual isekai trash, but still isekai trash nonetheless.

Tensei Shitara Ken Deshita – This is another fantasy isekai show but is considerably more favorable than the not-crowbar hero edgelord in that the main boy gets isekied as a magical sword into the fantasy world. Wow. that’s kind of different I guess. Lest to say, he is a magical scient sword and spends a considerable amount of time just waiting for a hero to pick him up. Time goes by and maybe even years and he decides to do his own thing, apparently he gains a skill in which he can fly and ends up doing a mini journey where he levels up his ability and kills all these fantastic monsters and beasts, all without a owner. Jokes. After all this fighting he ends up stuck however in a place that has no magic allowed and is back where he started unfortunately. Some time passes and some shit happens but basically he is picked up by a slave cat girl and helps her gain freedom from her slavers and becomes his owner. The most important thing about this is that yes, the cat girl is indeed cute and because of that the show is automatically alright. If the sword boy got picked up by another dude or shittier girl, then this show would be bad, but the girl is cute so it’s alright. There is mild comedy and hijinks due to the inherent weird nature of this isekai show and the cute cat girl but the action and pacing is not bad either, it had my attention. Will probably try to watch more of this since I kinda wanna watch some mindless isekei fun with a twist and cute girl.

Renai Flops – Bait ass harem anime with a dumb dude and a bunch of cute girls around that just so happen to be in his class on the first day of school. Like similar shows, the first episode is dedicated to introducing all the girls in various ways during our boy’s walk to school all concluding mistakenly that he is a pervert. This world is kinda semi-future where they have robot cleaning machines and other shit but still japan no less. While the girls all satisfy most of the typical archetypes of this kind of show, what is most notably is an inclusion of a boy among the selection, in what has been traditionally known as a Trap. Yep. What is more interesting or shocking? rather is how they introduce the pretty girly boy, he is seen trying to be raped by a horny dog in the park when our hero walks in and saves the day, all the while attracting the attention of the fiend mutt and heavily implies he is raped instead by the mutt with the next scene showing him on the ground, face down, with his pants down. WTF. I know they want to just say that the dog pulled his pants down, but nop, it just looked like he got raped by a dog. YO MAN WHAT THE FUCK. LOL. At this particular point in time, I was mentally checked out, traumatized by what I had just implied witness in my wholesome bait ass harem anime, I was done. BTW, his is a shit show.

Do It Yourself!! – On paper this show sounds good but it’s just so slow and hard to get into, dunno why, maybe it’s the characters themselves, pacing? The basic premise is basically the same club shit at school except they are in a club where they fix shit, like woodworking, making shelves, self repair, do it yourself handyman work shit. They are all kinda cute girls but not really appealing to me. Maybe this show will get better as the first episode they only featured like two of them and of the two I didn’t really like their designs or their personality. Will give this show maybe another try but unless people say this is the hottest shit, unlikely to watch this further.

Mushikaburi Hime – Not an isekai but a show for girls about some noble girl that ends up getting fake engaged to some prince or royal but it is a engagement of convenience, where she has access to his large library of books for the kingdom in exchange for people to not bothering the prince to find a bride and etc. Some time passes and they live basically separate lives but in the castle and shit just occasional high there and suches, living the fake life I guess in exchange for books. When the prince ends up growing close to some other girl, the main girl realizes that her time as a fake engagement bride is soon coming to an end and her access to the library. While she is sad, she begins to realize that she might actually like the prince after all and etc. Yea yea, show for women, princesses, relationship drama, not for me, not funny, too serious and the main girl to calm and air headed. Pass.

Akiba Maid Sensou – Everything about this show is pretty interesting and pretty edgy at that. Without summarizing everything, let’s just say that this show takes place in the early 2000’s when the maid cafe trend was super big in Akibahara in Japan and going into that area you would be greeted with tons of maids giving out flyers to visit their shop and etc. The show stars an aspiring new young maid that just joined a shop and wants to do her best, unknown to her basically that all the maid shops are just fronts for gangster operations and all the maids are killers/assassins/yakuza type folks. After some surprise underground battles, a few bullets to the heads of rival maids and a full on massacre of another maid shop, our hero wants to get out of the biz but can’t due to circumstances and yea, that’s the first episode I guess. Not bad, the main girl is cute and the action is swift but other than that, I am not sure if there is more story here or just episodic fare. Will try to watch more to see what’s up, not bad, worth a bit more watch.

Urusei Yatsura (2022) – Remake of a classic/iconic anime of the same name. If you ever wondered what the inspiration of Samurai Shodowns Cham Cham or Darkstalker’s Felicia was, then watch this shit and you will meet Lum, one of the OG waifu girls of back in the day that I am sure was an inspiration for many in the future. I knew of Lum and this series but I didn’t really know what it was about, now I know. It’s essentially a harem gag romance comedy kind of show similar in the veins of today’s modern day, dress up darling, haruhi with the a focus on a single extraordinary girl that for some fool reason ends up liking the main boy through circumstance. Lum is an alien girl and after some shit happens, and a plan to take over the earth is foiled, ends up getting engaged to some random fool boy that wants nothing of it since he is trying for another girlfriend. So yea, Lum ends up having to live with this boy and I suppose hijinks ensues. The character designs are true to the original anime with dated but clean lines retro feel which is not really my thing but I suppose if you want to know or are old school school, you would watch this I guess. Only for OG anime fans from the 80s and 90s.

Uchi no Shishou wa Shippo ga Nai – Some show related to some tanuki girl that wants to be a raguko master and storyteller because her species is shit and has no reason to exist any more. I dunno, this show is not bad but there isn’t really alot for me to take interest in. The tanuki girl is whatever and uninteresting and the premise is whatever for me. Forgettable character designs and kinda dumb. Pass, not for me.

Arknights – Reimei Zensou – Arknights, the popular other Yostar game that came out a few years ago finally gets an anime adaption. Having not tried the game, my knowledge is limited to it’s modern urban war street style which is pretty cool and it’s fairly attractive cast of waifu girl characters. Unlike Azurlane’s first anime, this anime at least from initial episode seems to be super serious and not at all what I look for in a mobile gacha game anime. I can immediately tell that this show for those who already play the game and is not really up my alley. For a strategy game that is all about cute girls and boys, they are all in for serious story, and the first ep had little action or battle, not looking good. This show is not for me be the animation seems decent but nothing worthwhile to be honest. Pass not for me.

Seiken Densetsu – Legend of Mana – The Teardrop Crystal – Based off some old ass game or franchise of the same name, I skimmed this shit for about 30 seconds. I’ve seen enough, don’t like the character designs and style, fantasy classic. Next.

Noumin Kanren no Skill bakka Agetetara Nazeka Tsuyoku Natta – Not an isekai but might as well be since it’s about some fantasy shit about a dude who all he did was get really good at farming and mastered all the mundane farming skills and for some reason has become OP godlike. What the hell is this shit. Skimmed this shit for about a 30 seconds or so once I realized the basic premise is basically farmville god incarnate. Shit show.

Akuyaku Reijou nanode Last Boss wo Kattemimashita – An isekai show in the same vein as Katerina Clauses, I am the villianess-all paths lead to doom catered towards female audiences. From what I understand it’s a girl who died while playing an otome game and ends up isekai’d into that world as the main villianess but instead of dying or meeting a terrible end, ends up deciding to pursue the main villain of the game, some edgelord not vampire dude that is the half-brother of the main male protagonist or something. It show’s premise is not new and I recently discovered that the “I am the villianess” kind of manga/light stories are it’s own kind of sub-genre of isekai catered for women which is cool but yea, not really for me. It’s different from Katerina but ultimately does not appeal to me at all. Pass, although some may find this decent.

Beast Tamer – From the synopsis, “Rein is kicked out of the party and now lives freely as an adventurer. On his journey, he meets a girl from a cat tribe, the so-called strongest species. Elsewhere, the hero’s party remains unaware that their previous success was all thanks to Rein… This is the story of a beast tamer no longer held back and his fateful encounter with a precious companion.” Lol nope, shit show, skimmed this shit like scum in boiling water I have better things to watch.

Spy x Family S2 – It doesn’t seem that long ago that Spy Kids finished it’s first much hyped season, indeed, it was literally earlier this year in which this aired and here we are again with the S2 I suppose. Pickup up where the last season ended, we get to begin the story of getting that nice psychic dog into the family, noice. Once again, overall good wholesome shit although the first few episodes are too spy action oriented, I want to go back to the classroom with Anya and friends since that’s where most of the jokes are like Chad God Bob. From what I hear from my Vtubers that I watch, they certainly are taking their time adapting this series, since they said that even the first season had a couple of filler episodes even though there is a large mountain of chapters and content to cover. Looks like this series is going to go on for a long time since the manga from my understanding is nowhere near being wrapped up anytime soon. Overall solid shit, will watch more.

Koukyuu no Karasu – A show based in ancient China, don’t ask me when but it’s about some consort or mistress that for some reason is magical that the emperor keeps around because it’s good luck or some shit and or she has magical powers and because she’s a witch that can do shit. No one really knows for sure except the emperor. Known as the “Raven Consort” some people think she is an old women, others a beautiful young girl, since yea people don’t know. Some shit happens and the prince or whatever wants to kill him empress mom or something and rule China. All the while some kind of paranormal mystery shit is going on in which he goes to the consort witch for help and they do some magic shit and find ghosts to solve the crime or something the bad. Raven Consort is a decent looking girl and apparently is some kind of title or something I guess, passed down from her mother or whatever, not sure. I can’t really describe it but yea, it’s probably a mystery relationship kind of show catered towards women, which is not bad. The show is strangely decent considering that it takes place in China, I looked up the source material and it’s apparently Japanese authored. Hmm, for a second there I almost thought that china had finally produced a decent chink anime, turns out I was wrong. Pass for me nonetheless.

Bocchi the Rock! – A pretty decently jokes show about a girl that is a music guitar youtuber but wants to make friends who share her same interests in rock and metal music, which for some reason has a really hard time fitting in at school and finding others that shares her love and wavelengths. She does all this edgey stuff during the first few weeks of high school like, wearing band clothes over her uniform, wearing accessories and carrying her guitar around but gradually just stops because it just ends up making people ignore her and make her seem even more isolated and weird to her peers. One day she meets a random down the street looking for spare people to play in her band since she was carrying her guitar. She ends up following this stranger, this random girl for some reason because she is a mad lad filled with insanity. She ends up going to some bar and meets the other member of the band, some other girl. They do some shit and end up trying to practice. Turns out our main girl is kinda shit playing live and sounds horrible, she goes on to say that she can only play alone in isolated places, like when she streams and uploads videos to youtube since she gets too nervous with a live audience. They literally put her in a giant cardboard box and call it a day, your in the band now. lol. This show hits all the chill notes in my mind and a cast of pretty cute and visually appealing anime girls with interesting personalities. The shows pacing and premise is good. I’ll definitely like to watch more of this but it’s hard since there is so much good shit this season, we’ll see, try to watch more.

Berserk – The Golden Age Arc Memorial Edition – The author of the Berserk manga, Kentaro Miura died last year but the manga will be hopefully completed by close friends who happen to know what the story ends up like. From my understanding this is just a tv adaption cut up version of a berserk movie that came out a few years ago, in the similar vein of what they did for Gundam Unicorn. I don’t’ know much about berserk but it was interesting watching this as it sets the basic premise and characters for the beginning of one of the longest running manga stories in recent times along with JoJos Bizarre adventure Although full 3d, you can tell 3d is getting better but just not there yet. Noice, but pass.

Pop Team Epic S2 – After many years of non-existing, for some reason Pop Team Epic is back and it largely follows the same crazy skit format of pure random bullshit for 24 minutes; half of which is just a repeat of the same content and skits, except voiced by guest male voice actors and others. For what it is, it’s good shit. I can’t remember if there was a choice pop team epic opening or song yet from the first episode but for sure I’ll watch this, probably on a binge or mini-marathon.

Blue Lock – This show can be summed up as intense sports soccer show combined with squid game survival competition. Right out of the bat, this show is different than most gay bait soccer shows in that all the dudes lines are very thick and intense. The show starts off with the main boy having to make a choice whether to pass the ball to his teammate to make the shot or to have him be a ball hog and shot himself and score. He ends up passing the ball like a good team player and his teammate fails hard, missing the goal. Fail. Now that they are out, they cry and shit and their coach tells them good job everyone but ultimately ends up crying too cause they were so close to the nationals but failed. The main boy, doesn’t feel anything. He goes home and on his way ends up crying because all of his emotions caught up from the shock of losing, he wanted to win so bad and regrets that he passed the ball, he should have taken the shot himself and they could have won. But he knows that’s not right, as soccer is a team sport. Some time later he gets a letter to an invitation to some soccer installation, he goes and it’s filled with top hot shot young soccer hopefuls from all across Japan. As per squid game, some dude comes out and gives a speech that this experiment is to try and build a world cup winning Japan soccer team and that to succeed, they have to abandon and reject everything they were ever taught about team sports, and that becoming selfish ball-hog assholes is the only path to true success and victory. Of course most cry foul of this plan and want to leave, but our main boy, hearing these words, jumps at the opportunity and volunteers for the project, causing many to abandon their team spirit and go forth as-well. More shit happen involving balls and they battle. Not bad show. If it wasn’t such a filled season I wouldn’t mind trying to watch more of this but atlas, priorities. For once, not a gay soccer show but at the same time, because of that, makes it even more gay. Not bad.

4-nin wa Sorezore Uso wo Tsuku – The synopsis of this show is “The story of four friends who each have a secret they cannot share with each other.” which basically means one girl is an alien, the other is psychic and can read mind, the other is a ninja undercover and the last one is actually a trap, she’s actually a boy. When you lump these characters in a classroom school setting, what you get are a bunch of gags and skits involving dumb shit. Yea, that’s the basic premise and on paper it sounds good but the pacing is painfully slow and some of the gags just go over my head and feel like they drag on much longer than they should have. The animation and character designs, also the girls + 1 boy is nothing to get excited about, barely decent is what I can describe them as, mainly completely forgettable designs. Might watch more but probably not, better stuff out there.

Mobile Suit Gundam – The Witch from Mercury – After having forgone most Gundam shows for probably the better half of the last decade with exceptions being Gundam Build Fighters and Unicorn, I’d think it’s time for me to try and get invested into the new Gundam for this generation, The Witch from Mercury. I actually watched the episode 0 prologue a month back and was impressed with the setting and potential story lines, so I was looking forward to see what this shit actually was all about. Turns out, at least right now, this can be summed up as Gundam Build Fighters the School, Yuri gay edition, but battling for real in mobile suits instead of gunpla models like yugioh. Yea, it’s honestly not what most people expected but I think it’s a welcome change to mix things up for the somewhat overly extreme gundam track record of anime, one being far to serious and drama based like in UC Unicorn stuff, 00/Wing/Seed, and the other-hand being far too outlandish and kiddie/jokes like SD Gundam, Gundam Build Fighters/Divers etc. It sounds strange but it kinda works this gundam, the main protag, Sulletta Mercury is one of the first main female protags in a gundam series which is nice and a nice heroine for her on the side as well and interestingly enough, not a typical protag as she is pretty self-conscious and unsure about her ability as a piolit. The world is still somewhat unclear but after the first few episodes I like what I see, the mecha are different and new looking/cool and the battle animations are quite good. Lots of funnel stuff going on and melee which is always good, not too many beams unfortunately. The character designs are unique and pretty equitable to match our times I suppose. I hope that they do a time jump or something or a real conflict happens in their world because the seeds of that larger story have already been planted and they move away from a school-based duel yugioh format. Not bad, pretty good, worth a watch to see but it may not be for everyone that’s for sure.

Fumetsu no Anata e S2 – Oh shit after about a year or so, the second best anime of 2022 returns, known internally as “Take Him” in my mind. The shows kind of ups up where it left off from the first season which is cool and we see a Fushi aged for like 30 or so years and he has largely done nothing still mourning the loss of everything, just chilling and living without a purpose. Some shit happens and he is introduced to the grandaughter of one of the main villains/antagonists from the first season, since yea, time has passed and the world has moved on, but he hasn’t. More shit happens, oh boy. Surprising, they ended up using the exact same intro song as the first season, which is an odd choice in my opinion but sure. Good shit, will watch more for sure. Good shit.

Fuufu Ijou, Koibito Miman – “Third-year high school student Jirou Yakuin hoped to partner with Shiori Sakurazaka of the same class in the mandatory “Couple Practical” course. In this practical, students must demonstrate that they have the necessary skill set to live with a partner of the opposite sex while presenting a certain level of harmony to the video surveillance that grades them.” Yea, that. The show presents itself as a kind of romance drama thing with mild comedy relationship stuff, which immediately is not really my thing. I’m sure some degenerates will love this shit but not me, it’s just too cringe and stupidly unrealistic a situation. I mean, it’s like having reality tv shit and the students are graded on how well you act as a couple? Wow, kinda bullshit. Add in the drama that his friend’s friends actually likes his fake wife and whatnot and you get pre-made formulas for drama which will no doubt result in the main boy’s fake wife actually liking her for real and vice versa etc. Too cringe but I’m sure some degenerate will like this shit.

Kancolle S2 – After something like 7-8 long ass years, we finally get a Kancolle S2. Holy shit what a long time. It’s somewhat sad really, the proverbial ship has already set sail on the boat girl trend many years ago with many more options like Azurlane taking it’s spot in popularity and in merch/presence but yet they still decided to make this shit. I am not shitting on this show in any means, in fact, it seems to be what kancolle fans have wanted ALL along, at least in some circles, being a fairly serious and dramatic rendition of the Battle of Leyte Gulf campaign, the largest naval battle in WWII and in some people’s books, in all of history. The battle of Leyte Gulf is also the last major conflict involving battleships and the first battle where Japan uses Kamikaze plane attacks, the battle ended in a resounding defeat for Japan and begins the rapid decline of the Japan’s navy in WWII and the eventually invasion of Japan of the allied forces. With that history in mind, the general tone of the show is that of ruin and very somber, with the opening sequence more akin to a remembrance memorial than a battle shows about boat girls. Shigure is the new heroine, replacing Fubuki from the first anime probably because she is dead now and that this show takes place much later in the war than the first season I suppose. The animation and characters are as I remember and quality quite high honestly, almost movie quality which is cool. Overall, I’ll definitely try to watch more of this even though the tone is much more somber, honestly, this shit should have came out like 2 or 3 years after the original Kancolle anime and movie to at least try and compete with Azurlane but no, they took their sweet time. We’ll see.

And that about wraps up this very jam packed Fall 2022 anime season, there is alot of high profile shit going on like Chainsaw man, Gundam and many sequels of note like Golden Kamuy, Fumetsu no Anata e etc all of which I will try to watch, not to mention pop team epic and a couple of cool new shows that I hope to watch more as well like Bocchi the Rock! and Tensei Shitara Ken Deshita. Too much shit, cant’ say I can watch them all but I’ll try. Good shit this season.
