Alright, after narrowingly avoiding ruin of our entire trip in Day 0, we got some much needed rest and got a few hours of sleep being heading to our first location, Sensoji temple/Asakusa which is minutes walking away from our first hotel location. With the moderate light rain throughout all of the morning, it was easy to get this kind of solo photo since crowds were much less due to the rain.
Navigating the various food stores and shops on the way to the actual temple was cool once they all opened. Decided to try this Fried Curry Manjuu or agemanjuu, pretty tasty and fresh. Of course we tried alots of other street food and picked up some nice bait touristy souvenirs, all part of the plan when it comes down to visiting this place. Lots of tourists that I can see/hear, lots of Japanese, Korean, Chinese and white westerners with accents such as English, Germans, Australians, etc Cool.
For some reason, just a small side street away from the main tourist lane in Sensoji temple, there was a pretty big Gacha capsule store that caught us off by surprise! Combined with he rain and unexpected appearance of gacha goods, we spent some time here and exchanged quite a number of 1000 yen bills for 100 yen coins. We did not expect this but we were glad that we did.
After a nice morning filled with umbrella holding and rain, we decided to check out some of the shopping districts in Asakusa for lunch and landed on some restaurant that seemed familiar but not really. Seems modern enough so we went in.
We thought we were going to be ordering like premade yakiniku sets or bentos but it ended up being a full course self service yakiniku place! Oh shit, we ordered the “Welcome to Japan” sampler course and were were greeting each with a tray of select meats and side dishes to grill ourselves, most notably the delicious Wagyu beef. My sister never had Wagyu beef before, after she tried it she said “Ok, I get it now”, since shit is so rich and delicious. Great experience and pretty affordable, our sampler set was only 3000 yen per person which included the Wagyu, highly recommended.
We decided to drop off our goods back at our hotel and give using our Suica card for the first time on the subway to our next location. For a Saturday afternoon, seems pretty sparse, at least where we are heading.
So yea, we decided to check out the Sumida Hokusai museum cause of course we would for those nice arts and waves. They had this nice looking installation/scene created of Hokusai doing his thing while his daughter Oei looks on and assists, if anyone knows anything about FGO, now you know…now you know.
I got my revenge at Tokyo Skytree, meaning that I finally got to go up and see all the shit from way above. Noice. Mission accomplished. Well done. We had no idea that the Solomachi shopping complex was so huge, something like 5-6 levels filled with shops, collab cafes, aquarium, pokemon center, jump store, harry potter merch store, bandai gundam store, hello kitty store, summiko gurrashi and so much food and food courts.
I don’t believe we bothered to go into the building when Skytree denied me the first time in 2014 so it’s great that I got to check it out now, although I don’t think it had that much stuff and was so busy as hell back then as it was today when we visited. You could probably spent an entire day at Skytree/Solomachi if your into shopping.
Well then, I am dead tired and dying after today, but it was a great success, in fact pretty bonus plus plus because we found the gacha shop. Shittt. Those ballz, too addictive.
Let’s see what happens tomorrow in our trip of insanity.
