Japan Trip 2023 – Day 3

Today we headed to Tsukiji fish market, I have never been and although the actual fish auction has moved elsewhere, the food stalls and shops remain which continue to be a big tourist attraction and for good reason. They have guys like this grilling limited number tuna skewers for 500 yen a piece, shit pretty good deal. Tasted delicious too as well as the show it provided by simply grilling it in front of the lineup.

While it’s a fish market, over the years more and more unique food items have appeared in the area, most notably this wagyu beef grilled skewer. While very costly, we had our second taste of wagyu beef but this this time it was A5 grade, one of the highest possible. One of the best beef I have ever eaten and probably the best thing today. No regrets whatsoever.

This big grilled eel skewer is pretty good a swell and fairly reasonably priced as well. Wish I had some nice Japanese rice to eat with it. For a Monday morning in Japan, the market got incredibly busy starting around 10am which is kind of crazy.

One of the most famous and popular well known food items from the area is this Tamagoyaki on a stick, egg and dashi stock formed on a pan and put on a stick. For only 150 yen each, it’s one of the most busy lines in the market and it’s quite tasty indeed. Never had something like this before.

In nearby Ginza, we checked out Mitsukoshi, a popular high end department store with like 10 floors filled with shit like Burberry, Prada, Louis Vetton and other high end brands. At the basement floor of the department store has a large area for premade food and other gift like food items such as this 22k yen mango, which is roughly $220 CAD, yea; for one mango.

On the way to other places from Shibuya, Harajuku and Shinjuku is this crossing spot where they installed a big ad screen but one of the ads had some 3d augmented reality cat videos which caught on in popularity ever since it came out. It got so popular that people were just standing around waiting for the ad to appear and not crossing, just standing there waiting to see and or record the various cat segments. The above image is a real live example of this in action.

Decided to check out Kabukicho at night in Shinjuku and while it’s mainly just host and hostess clubs, you sometimes get some really ace blade-runner like photos and images like this one. Damn, is this in the future? Noice.

We actually did a lot more than this but these photos are just a small snapshot of things that we saw in the city. It was alot of walking for sure and we are pretty damn tired but at least it didn’t rain at all today, which is great considering yesterday the rain didn’t let up one bit in Akihabara.

Still alive but are quickly going mad with our gacha and crane game insanity.

I wonder what’s going to happen tomorrow.
