Las Vegas Trip 2024 – Day 0

So, me and my sister decided to go to Vegas; yea, why not there is stuff to see and do and with the main reason being to attend EVO finals on Sunday as a spectator. I’ve always wanted to go to Vegas, so what better excuse is there to go because of a fighting game tournament which at this point is more or less a fighting game convention which I am all about. So let’s see how day zero travel day went down.

At the airport in Toronto we were waiting for a flight which started boarding at 1:30pm and decided to eat lunch/dinner. Above is probably the most mediocre yet expensive American breakfast in recently memory. I think it was like 16 dollars yikes. Gotta do what you gotta do I guess, I don’t think they are serving a meal on the plane so yea.

Flying westjet this time. No screens as I think per westjet standard. The passengers on this plane were a mix of groups of bros, gals familys and couples I think. A few I think also were probably going to attend EVO as well.

Mid flight we passed over this. I think this may or may not be the Grand Canon? My sister says it probably is, but I am not so sure. Still cool looking tho.

After getting off the plane in Vegas there is all sorts of welcome to Vegas signs, not the real one but you get the idea. Proof of existence the first.

Inside the lobby of the Venetian hotel on the Vegas strip. Quite fancy and rich looking, noice. They sent me an email like 24 hours before for pre-check which made picking up the cards to our room pretty speedy and quick. Good shit.

Navigating to your room in the hotel is kind of confusing. You basically have to take 2 elevators. The first one takes you to the tower, then you walk some long corridor to go to another elevator in which then you enter your room floor. This corridor looks like something from the shining, scary movie.

After a pretty horrible shit hotel experience in Atlanta, I wanted to ensure our hotel this time would be good. And as you can see from the photo above, it is. This hotel is so good and big and very fancy. Two queen beds for the two of us, there is 2 tvs a couch and chairs and a pretty good view of a feris wheel outside the window. Honest, this room overall has more space than my condo, pretty good shit.

I had made reservations for the Bacchanal buffet at Caesars Palace so we headed there once we rested a bit in our hotel. Entering the main door and we see this nice statue of the man himself, noice.

All throughout the place there is slot machines and casino tables, the whole area was a smoking zone so the longer you stay wandering the smoke and vape fumes kind of get to you. But none the less, I expect nothing less from Vegas I suppose.

After pre-paying for our meal and checking in into the Bacchanal buffet we get to see the action and chaos of the buffet floor and stations. Oh by let’s see how it goes. This buffet has been noted as one of the best of 2 or so buffets on the Vegas strip, so let’s see if it lives up to the hype.

My first plate consists of meat such as brisket, prime rib and some porchetta and some mash sides. Pretty good shit.

They also had some bone marrow and toast, don’t see that everyday so gotta try. Nice beef butter I would say, nice and rich.

They had a very small selection of sushi but it was solid, especially the nigiri. The pork skewers was Filipino style I think, pretty good shit.

They had a pretty large selection of cold and hot seafood shellfish so of course I got a nice selection of snow crab legs and lobster claws, pretty good shit, gotta get that moneys worth you know.

In the asian section they had some interesting stuff like salt and pepper frog legs, thai crab and korean kalbi ribs. I also look some chicharon, pretty good shit. Not pictured is another plate for snow crab legs that was also shared between me and my sister.

My last plate; desserts, honestly the desserts were mediocre at best, not that great and the temperature not right, like the things that I thought should be cold, were not cold and the quality not that good. They had a person scooping ice cream for each person so there was line, and I wa like wtf, why do this? Just do self serve. They also had a made to order crepe station that was a line so I also didn’t get that, too bad.

So then, is the Bacchanal buffet worth it? Well, it depends; the variety of food items was very good touching on a wide variety of regions and cuisines and the quality decent to good; however, for almost $90 USD per person, it is massively overpriced for what you can eat and the items served. Yes the crab and brisket are very good, but you can only eat so much of that given the short time limit they give you, only 90 minutes. If the Bacchanal buffet was let’s say $50-60 dollars I would say yes it’s good and worth it, but for $90, it’s almost impossible to eat your money’s worth given time as well. I would say if your going to Vegas for the first time it’s worth a try to see what’s all the fuss and hype about, but it’s hard to justify spending that much on a dinner meal given the time and quality a second time unless they have more quality items added to the buffet menu.

After a big buffet meal, decide to wander around the Casino and play some slots. Proof of existence 2. Found the most Chinese pandering slot machine possible and gave it a go. 88 indeed. So many of these machines are Asian themed and cater to Chinese people it feels very very cringe. What’s even more cringe worthy is that this strategy works, I saw many old asian/Chinese people playing slots like these, including myself.

Best way to gamble in real life gacha. Put in $20 dollars press some buttons, have no idea what’s going on, can’t spin machine anymore. Check out ticket for $1.25 of your remaining funds, Profit. This is the Vegas way after all.

Proof of profit 1. I did it. Winning it big son.

Inspired by my massive winnings, my sister decided to give that same 88 machine ago as well; I mean, what could go wrong it’s double 8’s! Unfortunately her yield was not as handsome as my own, coming in at a pitiful $0.50. Vegas you know, it does something to people.

Wandering around the area we ended up in some weird sculpture social media hotspot for photos in the Bellagio hotel. Lots of people taking photos and shot. Proof of existence 3, double proof.

Outside the Bellagio waiting to see the fountains and it’s super crowded. You see these kinds of trucks and busses advertising the various services of ladies of the night. This is technically illegal in Vegas but I think it’s impossible to enforce or stop, it’s almost cultural ingrained at this point historically. I think the police was trying to warn them or something.

Nice Paris Eiffel tower replica, noice indeed.

Hell yea, saw these bitch water fountains do their show to music, this time it was to a Micheal Jackson song. Pretty impressive and cool, new show and song I think every 15 minutes or half an hour depending on what time of day.

Proof of existence 4, thumbs up edition for the nice show at the Bellagio fountains. Worth but damn it’s so hot, even in the night, the ground itself is still hot/warm so it’s like baking still when when the sun is down.

Walking by the very bright an flashy Flamingo hotel, noice.

Well that ends our day 0. There is so many other photos I have but I gotta try to cut down so yea, good shit. When we checked into our hotel in the afternoon this was like dead because it was so damn hot. Let’s see how Vegas is tomorrow, night is where it’s at but we’ll see.
