Boston Trip 2024 – Day 2

And here we are, our last full day in Boston and ready to start a relatively chill day leading up to the main purpose of this trip, the Yoasobi concert later in the evening. With that said, let’s see how things went down today.

When initially thought about having a ghetto dunkin breakfast but then opted to have a sit down breakfast instead in a breakfast place right across the street called Pressed Cafe. They menu is very big and you kind of order at the counter and they bring it to your table, no tip, noice. I like this kind of format.

It was quite busy, I think the menu somewhat catered to Jewish/Isreali people because there was no pork and a few items were named like “Israeli breakfast” and had turkey sausage and bacon instead of normal but who knows. Place looks really nice and causal.

I ordered something called Brooklyn NYC chicken sandwich but it was more like an open sandwich that I had to eat with a knife and fork. It was pretty good but I didn’t think I had to use knife and fork but whatever. I tried to eat it as a normal sandwich but I failed cause everything spilled outside so I gave up and used the tools provided.

Dan got something called steak and eggs in a pita. He asked for no cheese but it still came with cheese, I guess they forgot; he’s still alive but you never know you know. He said it was good, despite the cheese which he was concerned about upsetting his stomach.

After breakfast we walked to our morning destination the Boston Museum of Fine art or MFA for short. I know know about this museum because at Uniqlo they have shirts with art from the MoMa in NYC and here the MFA in Boston printed on them as collabs. My assumption is that they have a decent collection of Japanese arts to warrant this so yea, why not, it’s super close to our hotel.

The museum is quite large so we tried to cover as much ground as possible, the first area we went to was Asian arts and artifacts. There here above is apparently some ancient Polynesian figures and shit I think, I can’t remember for sure. It could also be ancient Korean but it looks jokes so ya.

Japanese traditional mask in the Japanese art area. Looks like the same mask that Juufuutei Raden from hololive wears sometimes. I wonder if she came to this museum before and took the idea from this mask. I am not surprised if she did.

We came pretty early but there was still people around looking at stuff like bosses. A few of these were Hokusai prints and paintings, paintings more rare because they said they are considered better than this wood block prints, sure museum, sure.

Proof of existence budda statue edition. I think so? I hope?

We moved into the ancient Greek and Roman area, mainly has busts of these sekko boys. Why so many broken noses?

This head says to me “Sammeee” or “I don’t feel so good Mr. Stark”.

A nice room filled with classical pre-impressionism work. Nice and fauny and realistic shit, some of the best I’ve seen.

I guess musical instruments count as art too I guess if old enough.

I like this picture, it’s very “art museum” or rather what you might expect from an art museum. Nice and bait, even the man in it.

One of the few Monet’s that isn’t that impressionist. I like this one quite a bit. It tells everyone that Europeans loved Japanese shit long before anime came along in the modern times, and what better way to illustrate that with a painting of a white women dressed in kimono with fans all around with some swords. Wonderful. Fantastic. OG Weebs.

Sitting down and taking in all the art. Some of us appreciate fine art more than other it seems.

This is a really nice painting and realistic, almost photo quality you know and the model/women is quite nice too.

I am not sure what’s the deal with always having women holding dead dudes heads in these paintings. Probably some story or god. The boobs don’t look quite right and are maybe too small/not painted realistic enough.

Oh look, a famous painting by Paul Gauguin, called “Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?” I can’t exactly remember why this was so famous but it’s probably because some Asian looking women emulating some biblical shit or whatever or something. Noice, I remember seeing this one in art history textbooks.

Oh shit boi, it’s another painting by Vincent van Gogh, can’t remember which one this is but yea, noice.

Oh wow, a Picasso in some random hallway. I remember seeing this one used in textbooks as a prime example of cubism. It seems so odd that it’s just in some random hallway and not a proper room.

I am not sure why but my immediate thought for this painting was “you know, he didn’t have to have the middle one with exposed boobs, but he did anyways because of course he did.”

Probably the most asshole looking portrait in the museum, some priest. Reminds me the bad guy priest in Fate/FGO. What a douche.

They had a mini special exhibit for Salvador Dali, gotta love those melting clocks you know.

After we had a few hours at the MFA we headed to our next destination, lunch at Wahlburgers. Oh boi, this might be the first one in Boston so let’s see how things go.

I didn’t know Mark had three brothers that joint own this place, I thought it was mainly just him. So I see this picture as Mark and 2 other dudes/assholes.

They have an area for take out but also a sit in bar dine in area. Not bad looking, pretty bar like filled with merch and stuff about the Red Sox too.

Me and Dan ordered the same thing, a single “Our Burger” single patty. Only difference was mine without pickles and his without pickles and cheese. Overall I would say a Wahl burger is not bad, it’s definitely better than a normal fast food burger from McDonalds, Burger King, Harvey’s but I don’t think it’s better than Shake Shack or In-And-Out, considering they are smash burgers which beat pretty much almost every other burger out there. I would say it’s better than Five Guys, as it is only like $9 for a single but not by much, Five Guys has so many toppings and shit which kinda make it it’s own thing. Not bad Mark Wahlburg, you have decent good burgers.

After our burgers we went into a nearby Time Out Market, Boston edition. Apparently these are famous in Europe and always busy but not here although the food seems nice. The second floor of this warehouse like building has admin staff and whatnot for Harvard medical school and some Boston sick kids hospital with nice chairs and shit. We literally just chilled here for almost an hour and a half just sitting around enjoying the AC.

After some time we slowly began walking to our next destination, stopping buy a few shops along the way, such as this Japanese styled bakery. Noice bread.

There was also a H-Mart in the area, Korean grocery store. Nice sushi and onigiri stuff. Not pictured here was every staff working at this place being either black or Mexican, which is kind of jokes. Just like home! Soon, everywhere!

After we killed enough time, we went to our main destination, GyuKaku, the famous chain from Japan for AYCE yakiniku. I know we have a couple in Toronto but I want to see if every KBBQ/JBBQ is just very good in America and for some reason the ones we have at home are kinda lackluster.

They have three tiers similar to many other places I’ve been to in the US for AYCE grilled meats. Noice. We went with the lowest tier, the premium.

This was a pretty early dinner. I made reservations for 4:30pm thinking there was noone inside but once we got in there were already people eating and grilling. Wow. Didn’t think it would be busy already.

They only allow 2 dishes to be ordered per person, so for us it’s total 4 at a time. You can’t ask for more unless you eat and finish what they gave you which makes a lot of sense really. I can’t remember the meats we choose for our first round but it’s like all beef cuts and 1 pork I think.

They had a side dish called garlic sliced cabbage. It’s not bad, pretty good garlic and cabbage flavor. Nice contrast to the grilled meat.

Grilling our first meats, I think this is sweet soy beef toro belly? Pretty good and cooks fast.

Second round we got more I think this is teriyaki chicken breasts and pork belly. These above two dishes were probably the weakest items on the menu. The chicken takes too long to cook and doesn’t absorb any flovor since it’s breast meat and the pork belly was too tough and it’s marindate didn’t do nothing really. Too bad, don’t order chicken when you have a 90 time limit, it’s a waste of grilling time.

Another example of some garlic pork they called it, it was pretty good very garlic flavor but Dan said it was overwhelming and too garlic taste, I like it tho. I think in total we ordered about 11-12 plates of meat not bad. I can’ remember all of them but there were a few cuts that we ordered that were really good the best of the lot I think while some like the chicken, no so great. Most all very decent to very good however.

They had some ice cream on the menu so we got that, green tea for me and vanilla for Dan, nice well shaped ball I can see. Taste better quality that what I am used too, noice.

Overall I would say that this GyuKaku is pretty good, not the best in either quality or value, that still goes to the 888 Korean BBQ in Vegas but I would say it is a tie between this and the place we had in Atlanta, maybe a bit higher because they offer so many more types and cuts of meat than that one. I would also say that this is still better than any of the KBBQ/JBBQ that I have had in Toronto, that also includes Gyubee, which is often seen as our best AYCE bbq option in terms of quality. This GyuKaku is considerably better than Gyubee in that regards so I’m curious if the GyuKaku Toronto locations are just as good as this one in Boston, or if my theory is correct and that in general all Toronto AYCE grilled meats in Toronto are far behind in quality and value compared to their American counterparts. Hmmm..interesting.

With our bellies filled with nice grilled yakiniku meat, we headed to Fenway Park. The concert is being held at the MGM Fenway Music Hall, which is directly connected to the oldest baseball stadium in the US. Noice.

As we get closer we see a line forming. Guess this is the line to get in I suppose and also for merch by association. Concert starts at 8pm. The time now is like 6:40pm. Doors open at 7pm. Oh boy lets see how this goes.

Everyone in this line or seeing Yoasobi is an anime fan, also hololive too I suppose. Nice Omo Cat Irys merch there son.

Proof of existence, waiting in line for concert edition. The wristband was given to prove that you are over 18 for the sake of alcohol sales inside. Pretty useless really.

Ah yes, the experience wouldn’t be complete without at least a few Ai cosplayers heading into the concert as well. Noice.

After clearing security and bag check, we checked the line for merch and it brought up some like 3 flights of stairs to find the line, this is like the highest level of the venue, wow. damn, gonna be awhile.

The line actually moved pretty quickly and we slowly but surely got closer to the merch booth on the first floor after climbing so many stairs. You can see the bag check and security. There is still so many people yet to get inside. The time is like 8pm. There is no way they are starting the show at 8pm which like half of the people are not even in yet. The venue holds 5k people and I think not everyone is even close.

Ah yes, the moment we had been waiting for, after roughly 40 minutes we got to the merch table. We both brough some stuff and CD box sets of their songs. The clothing merch honestly is kind of weak but you came all the way here, you kinda have to buy something right?

After successfully getting our merch, they didn’t give us bags so we had to hold them in our seats for a bit which is kind of a shame. The show started at like 8:30pm as predicted. Noice.

Zoom in some the main singer of Yoasobi, she was on this elevator lift thing at first which is kind of jokes.

Every song has color associated with them but the venue said before that pen lights were not allowed. Mother fuckers, then why were people still allowed to bring them in? Shitttt, so many people brought there pen lights, feelsbadman, should have brought mine.

I think this is when they are playing Idol, their hit song from Oshi no Ko that skyrocketed them into fame and the top charts thanks to the anime and being a hype song. They know what people like. They played Idol roughly halfway through the set and followed it immediately with Yuusha, the Frieren opening song that is also a banger then with Kaibutsu, the opening song from Beastars S2. They also played in the first half Shukufuku, the opening song from Gundam: Witch from Mercury which was a bit surprising that they didn’t save it for later.

The closing first act, you know, they are done but not really, gotta wait for that encore chanting you know.

And there they are with their final encore song, a song that I haven’t heard before honestly but I am sure is popular with some others who discovered them before beastars or oshi no ko. All of their songs are actually very good but I just haven’t heard them before which is a shame, should look up their other songs more before for max effect.

After final farewells from the band, everyone headed out, for some others, back into the line for merch. Nice sign saying that they are playing, good shit. Overall this was a pretty good concert, they had some unique affects and even a 3d glasses segment where you put on 3d glasses and the screen displays 3d graphics for you. Cool, haven’t seen that before. It’s really great to see a band like them live and see that everyone out here for them only knows them because of anime music. Good shit.

After a brief walk we headed back to our hotel to pre-pack for tomorrow as our flight is relatively early but who knows, maybe it will be delayed again. Good shit today, mission accomplished.
