Alright, this is our final full day in London, let’s see how it goes. I am pretty tired now and running low on stamina to write these so yea, this should be a more chiller day but we’ll see, it almost never is; except yesterday it was chill. Let’s go!
For today we are going to go nearby mobile, not use the subway London underground and only travel to places nearby our hotel. For breakfast we actually went to a proper sit in restaurant for breakfast, The Breakfast club, seems kinda but but there was a line so it must be good.
The place itself is pretty small, it can only fit in these amount of customers. It got more busy in the line outside once we got in. The customers are more diverse this time, not that many Chinese people but a bunch of others, the people beside us were German and the other side were some other kind of European I think.
I ordered my full english breakfast, at this place called ‘the full Monty’ because it’s not quite a full English breakfast but close enough. Shit was pretty good, the beans were great and everything was good, even the black pudding which I didn’t have before. Not bad.
My sister got something called the ‘greasey spoon’ which is basically just meat and bread and eggs, similar to an american breakfast but missing a few things but more meat instead. Said it was good. The breakfast overall I would say is better than the first one we had but at the same time, more expensive, it’s a tradeoff I guess. Both are good.
Our hotel is so close to the British musuem, we could walk to it in like 5 minutes but we waited until the last full day to visit because yea, why not. It’s free but you have to reserve in advance for a ticket or else you might not get in since entry is time-slotted. Impressive building.
The inside is quite a sight to behold. Very impressive and big and modern, which is somewhat contrary to it’s outside appearance.
Posing with this ace building, good shit.
99% of the people are here to see their most famous and popular artifact, the Rosetta Stone. The famous stone tablet that helped translate and decode ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs which until it’s discovery; was a complete mystery.
What makes this stone important is that the same message on it was translated into 3 different languages, Egyptian hieroglyphics, Demotic script (another form of Egyptian), and Ancient Greek. At the time, no one had any clue about hieroglyphics, this stone changed that.
Proof of existence, Rosetta stone edition.
They had tons of relics that took up huge spaces, like this wall thing.
They sometimes had special exhibits, this one being for the royal assarian kings where they projected a video over the stone carving and animated the story it was telling, in this case, the king going on a lion hunt on a chariot.
Gotta make sure the most important part of the body is sculpted properly you know, boobs, even if it doesn’t make sense.
Some Greek plates and shit. Probably Hercules, noice.
Some roman emperors. I am pretty sure I know who these are, probably the ones in gladiator.
I am not quite sure but these chess pieces apparently are the hottest shit. I am not sure why, maybe because they look kind of funny and are British made ancient relics?
At a glance these seem like nice fancy off white Persian like rubs, cool cool sure sure. But if you look closer you see they are stories of more recent times.
This one for example you couldn’t get any more clear, made during the 2002 Iraq war, oh shit.
I can’t remember for sure this object, I believe it was made in cypress and it has like a story or declaration on it, something about a king saying he is OP god or something. It’s famous I think since it’s in cuneiform, one of the first/oldest written languages in human history.
Oh yea, gotta see those mummies and sarcophagus from ancient Egypt. It was super busy and crowded in this space too for obvious reasons.
I guess this mummy was a women? Look at those drawings on the inside I guess of her? Pretty saggy/big boobs I think, at least that’s what I think are drawn.
So many school kids were also joining the fray into this room too, damn. Add in the Chinese tour groups and random europeans and this place is packed to the brim.
We went outside the main exhibit areas for a washroom break which conveniently was right next to the museum gift shop, noice, gotta buy some shit now I guess.
They had a huge section dedicated toward the great wave or at least one of the copies that the museum owns. I had no idea they had a copy. I learned later they even tho the British museum owns one, it’s currently not being displayed, mannn that sucks. Why sell march then. For jokes, I am wearing a shirt that had a great wave on them now. I had no idea.
They had a few art books published by the British Museum featuring Manga and other anime stuff which is cool. I appreciate that they are trying to bridge the gap between classic woodblock printing in Japanese fine art with the popular art of manga and anime today, good shit.
After we got our merch we went into this library space in the center which I think used to be a visitors center/reception hundreds of years ago, which i cool, it doesn’t do anything today now other than look cool I guess now.
Nice Moai, I wonder how they got it here, along with other such pieces. Proof of rock existence.
The hallway exhibit in this space contains Chinese and Indian art and ancient aretfacts, it was very busy as you can guess, even more so in the Chinese side for obvious reasons.
Is this really necessary? It’s not really history, this is just today.
Hmm, I wonder how brown visitors like these feel about seeing their cultures shit in this museum, probably mixed feelings or don’t care maybe. There was less traffic in the Indian side of this space compared to the Chinese side for probably reasons.
Some nice Indian gods or something, gotta make sure to sculpt their boobs extra bigs. All throughout humanity, humans just wanted to sculpt boobs it seems.
Getting to the Japan exhibit was a bit rough, you have to go to the third floor and then take the stairs to the 5th floor because there is no elevator that goes there. Inside is a bunch of items you would expect, such as samurai armor, kimonos, pottery and some wood block prints. While not bad, I wished they had displayed the great waves here. I wonder why they did not want to display it?
Apparently these cuniform pieces are the hottest shit for some reason according to my sister. Not sure why but yea, might as well take a photo.
While it may not seem like it, we spent like 5 hours in the British museum before leaving. Wow, pretty good for a free museum, in fact, probably the best free museum there is as far as I am concerned. There is so much shit and things to see, read, it could take you days if you want to take your time to read and view/appreciate everything. By far the Rosetta stone is the most peak item they have and it is totally justified. Good shit, would recommend.
We didn’t really have a lunch since we had a big breakfast so we went and decided to get another ‘meal deal’ combo, except this time from Tesco. Not bad price man, not bad.
Tesco is apparently the favorite meal deal offerings of Conner, from Trash Taste anime influencers and in particular any combo that has the Chicken bacon stuffing sandwich, peak he says, peak. We’ll see about that.
We got back to our hotel for a super late lunch, at this point it’s like pre-dinner. We share the sandwich. Alright, it’s pretty good, Conner knows what he is talking about, he knows all about ‘meal deal’ and whats it on about.
After a quick rest and cooldown at our hotel, we go out again early to shop and check out Animetal, that anime shop that we saw on our first day here, good thing it’s open now, it’s never open when we walk bout later in the evening.
Looks pretty good honestly. They have lots of anime figures and toys and shit, nice space too.
They got all the prize figures you normally get from crane claw games in Japan, like right there you can just buy them straight up instead of wining them hmm. Interesting. Some of these are pretty decently new I think, although heavily marked up, roughly almost 3 times what they were to go for in Yen, if converted to CAD, it’s even worst. at basically 4-5 times.
They have very nice eye catching statues of all the mainstream bait anime like one piece and dbz tho, impressive.
So it looks like British people like anime stuff too. Noice. Just wanted to make sure. In many ways, I think they like it even more than in Toronto too, just based on population density.
They have a small section near the back of the store with what seems to be official Gigo small claw machines, wow.
Less to say, $20 pounds later, my sister won a couple of small prizes from the machines. This cat thing.
And other sushi cat thing, most of the money was spent on the former, this one above I think is only 1-2 tries, noice.
Gotta buy that new blue eyes white dragon plush you know, you never know when you gonna se it again.
Goku approves of this store, not bad shit.
Right beside it is this comic book store, which is also quite popular. Apparently the anime store is quite new, only opening in Oct of last year, while this store has been around for many years/ages and is super popular.
Innits kids gotta get their shit too.
The first floor has mainly toys and other common comic book merch/goods even some anime and legos stuff, pretty random.
The second floor however is essentially a book store filled with comics, fantasy, science fiction novels, art books and most importantly all kinds of manga and light novels/magazines.
Light novels here, pretty big section. This kind of thing is not very common in book store today in Canada considering we basically just have indigo now, so it’s nice to see elsewhere it’s a thing that is viable to be sold.
We walk westward and venture into the SOHO area of london, which we have actually walked before because it’s one of several other stations nearby our hotel. It’s a more rich and shopping like area that has times square vibes a bit.
We shopped around the area and visited a few stores, not bad stuff. From mid and high range, all shit can be found here, it’s also pretty popular with tourists and locals it seems, not bad.
I had reservations for this Japanese BBQ restaurant, Kintan, looks like it came in handy? No not, really. Turns out all of these people are waiting for the sushi omakase service which for some reason Kintan also does, their BBQ stuff is separate hmm.
Walking past the sushi omakaze area at the front, I guess this place is pretty good and real. The owners and sushi chefs were speaking Japanese and so too were some of their customers as well. Wow, shit is real.
We are led to the lower basement level where they do their BBQ service, noice. Interesting decor and vibes.
This table that sitting behind me were british but they also spoke Cantonese, when they spoke English they had a thick English accents, but when not, they just sounded like regular Chinese canto bitches lol, I guess having an accent really does make a difference.
They had set courses but also a All you can eat menu as well with two tiers, gold and silver. $60 pounds for gold and $50 pounds for silver. We got the silver one, the difference between the two isn’t that huge but still notable. I ordered some crispy savory cabbage, which was a thing I think in a AYCE in Boston if I can remember, I forgot. As well as a number of chicken, pork and beef cuts from the AYCE menu.
Their grill is just a small square which is all right, it does it’s job but honestly a little slow. Which I think is intentional. There is a 2 hour time limit for AYCE and they charge you if you have unfinished or uncooked/meat leftovers. They had two sauces which is like bbq soy sauce and sweet miso sauce, both were good depending on what you feel like.
Midway I ordered a Sapporo beer because the table beside us that came also ordered it. Black premium huh? Pretty good. Goes well with the meat. Our table neighbors were very interesting, very super real in fact. Two guys eating together, one was Japanese guy who can speak English and a British white man, both coming here for food after work and to discuss other work things. Oh man. The Japanese man was very obviously here for work as he spoke about his family and such back at home in Japan, while the white man talked about ‘Hiroshi-san’ and how he is doing now and etc. Based on my ease-dropping, these guys, both in suits/formal office wear were higher up employees of Mitsubishi as that name was mentioned several times and they sometimes talked about production and how thing were doing in china business, how the factories were doing and how they ship them to england and etc. Wow, this is some real shit here, just like in the anime, movie, games talking about how most business deals in japan are struck not in the office, but at pubs and restaurants in Japan. Too real shit but in London.
We are almost done our second ordering round and shit is pretty good. They have a ton of selection and cuts of meat, which in my opinion are on par and probably better/thicker than the ones at Gyubee at home. Overall, still better than anything we have in Toronto we have right now, not to mention they all the workers are mainly Japanese it seems/sounds like. However, despite it’s good quality and authentic experience, it’s certainly not the best value around, for $50 pounds per person for their silver AYCE tier, that’s quite alot of money man, considering in CAD that would be almost $100 dollars CAD. Yikes. If it was like $25-35 pounds I would stay it is worth it for sure, but for 50? I don’t know, it’s a bit overpriced but it’s really up to preferences. How real of an experience do you want is a better question.
After having our final AYCE Japanese bbq in London, we walk about slowing in a strolling pace to our hotel, marketing the last full dinner meal in London for this trip and the day.
Tomorrow we go back to and head back to the airport. I think after the shit we experienced on day 0 with the cab, we are going to just use the subway tube to get to the airport, since there is a line that directly connects it to there. Wish us luck, today was a chill but somewhat intense day at the British museum but it was all good, hope our travel day goes without any problems.
