Today is our first excursion outside of the actual boat, we are heading to the small town of Skagway so I think almost everyone is going to head on out, so let’s see how things go today.
I wake up in the morning and noticed that on my phone that the US esim has connected to the verizon network, nice, looks like I don’t need to buy disney sea wifi when we are docked at a port. Boat is docked, lets eat.
Back at Cabanos breakfast buffet, not to busy right now but we want to explore the town in the morning before our actual event/excursion party begins so lets get some food.
A modest spread for a busy day ahead.
Decided to pick up some oatmeal with brown sugar, tastes good to have some fiber in the system again.
Heading on out to the main entrance, the same place where we initially boarded.
Nice dock.
Cool to see our boat so close as we are leaving for the day.
After a short walk we get to the Skagway sign for the dock, noice
Skagway is kind of a ghetto port town, it was originally founded to support the influx of the gold rush miners but even tho that died down it has still maintained some raw materials shipping industry but it’s main economy is tourism now.
This town is seasonal, in the summer months where tourism is highest it has a population of like 3k, when not like in the winter it goes down to like 800. hmm.
Didn’t read the description but probably like gold miners and a chinaman/native Indian lead the way in Skagway.
This is a machine used to clear snow on the rail tracks in the winter months, not much tourism in the winter anymore or jobs so it’s here now on display for people.
Looking at this town is like looking back in time in many ways, the main town is just a single road with branch side roads filled with touristy fare these days which is still interesting.
Later on in the day we will be riding a train to get a new scenic view of Skagway Alaska as this is where you would normally buy tickets for said train but it also acts as a gift ship of sorts too.
Nice train gift shop we got here.
After we continued to use the morning to explore the various gift shops that the town had. Nice diagram thing with rocks of the places these raw materials are found cool.
Most of the gift shops look like this or worse, this one is like the ‘main’ gift shop in town where probably 90% of visitors end up going to and buying some stuff.
Another thing that Alaskan towns have that we realized is lots of gold and jeweler shops, they all try to entice you to go inside offering free charms, and for some cases it works. Like this for example, they get you to come in with a free gift and browse and you end buy buying some real stuff. This particular place above was shilled by people on the boat and they had coupons or something to get discounts off so at least there’s that.
After a early preview of the town we had to head back to get something to eat and gather to our meeting spot on the board for our group excursion.
Cabanos was not open at this time as it was in between breakfast and lunch service we we got the always available food that can be had on the 9th floor open area. Above is a lamb/beef shawarma, for what it is it’s ok, nothing special, generic processed meat but at least it’s different from a normal burger.
My sister got the kiddie and autists favorite to share, chicken tendies and fries. Can’t go wrong really.
My mom had a burger, like I said before, it’s pretty base.
My sister also had a chicken sandwich of sorts, she said it was kinda shit.
Today where you get burgers from they had a special item, spicy chicken sandwich, let’s see how this is.
So it’s a spicy chicken burger huh? For some reason I thought it would be grilled but whatever, still tastes not bad. I would say it’s better than average, reminds me a bit of Wendy’s spicy chicken sandwich with the brioche bread, not bad.
Today’s daily ice cream swirl is strawberry and banana flavor, shit works of course, just like freshly squeezed smoothly after all.
Where my sister picked up her shit mid sandwich they also had other stuff like curry and teriyaki rice, I think this place is supposed to be for vegans and or other less mainstream foods, hmm.
After our quickish lunch we headed to the event space where we are supposed to gather and get organized for our excursion, lots of people here and you have to check your card to the world card and passport too since we’ll be heading back into Yukon Canada for this little trip.
Lots of people leaving going offshore now including us to get on the busses.
Proof of on bus existence, hopefully not a Stewart to Robin Cohen edition.
The bus is fairly packed, filled with all sorts of people, families, elderly and of course lots of kids.
Even on the bus the drive is quite beautiful, look at this scenery, looks like from a game or some shit.
Even tho the bus ride isn’t that long, our bus driver decided to stop at this little scene stop since there was a hole in the group for emergency toilet use, but mainly for photos.
Proof of on the road in the middle of nowhere edition, hopefully not mad max fury road.
Movie quality landscape and scenery indeed.
It didn’t take long but we ended at the border customs place to enter the Yukon Canada. The border patrol just came on the bus and our bus guide/driver told just to just have your passport open right beside your face, we did. Nothing happened and the customs agent was like ok your good and left. We were on our way.
Our destination for our bus ride is this Yukon suspension bridge, owned and maintained by a family which I think is mainly just for tourism.
A decent amount of people coming on here to see the sights and bridge, lots from our Disney cruise but other tours as well. We only were given like 45 min I think here to explore, shop and cross the bridge and etc so yea.
Wow, nice scene and bridge, nice canadian flag too. This bridge is over what they call a level 4 rapids or something fast moving water so yea, there’s that.
Beautiful pictures and sky. Pretty postcard level indeed.
I appreciate the Canadian flag on the bridge so big, make sure you know who owns this place.
This stop itself has all the usual tourist amenities like washrooms, cafe and gift shop.
Gift shop looking pretty alright, even in the middle of nowhere in the Yukon if there is bus tours going by you can bet your ass there will be gift shops.
The bridge area also had what they called an outdoors museum with statues and shit like descriptions of some of the history of this area and the suspension bridge.
Lots of bears in the area I suppose to warrant this display.
Damn, bridge pretty long but short at the same time. It looks sturdy enough but you never know man.
Another postcard level photo detail of quality. Wow.
With some minor hesitation I decide to cross the bridge, kinda scary for me not gonna lie. I held the wire walls with every step of the way while my sister had no problems, no hands. I mean, there is no reason why the bridge might break but it’s not stable stable you know, it moves a bit so yea, for me kinda scary man. Our mom didn’t want to go but laughed at me as she watched me cross the bridge so cautiously.
On the other side of the bridge now, nice scenery we have here, another postcard level photo.
Look at that bridge crossed, wow. So happy that I didn’t break the bridge, thank me later.
Proof of crossed bridge existence, I am not afraid anymore edition, bravery weak minus.
We return back to the other side of the bridge with our mom looking on, amused at my weakness of the mind. It’s not fear, only our mind makes it real or something like that.
They had this display where you can point where you came from to visit this place. As you can see most of the people are from the US, some from Canada and Mexico/south America.
Nice trees and shit going on here with mountains and blue sky. After this photo we go back to our bus and continue on our journey to our next destination.
The landscape changes quite a bit due to the weather and the light. This photo might as well be another day but I suppose going on the bus fast while taking a snapshot like this does that maybe.
Wow, beautiful scenery indeed even while passing on the car. Only imperfection is the slight glare from the windows on the right, ahh, nothing that a little AI and processing can’t fix later.
Our bus driver gets us to our next destination, a train stop for us to take the rest of the ride back to Skagway on a train, max scenery edition. Cool.
Proof of choo choo train ride excursion transfer. What’s funny is that while the train gets us back to Skagway she still has to pick us up later and drive us back to the port, so she actually has to drive ahead of us on the road, which really is far faster lol.
They give us this brochure that has coupons and shit shilling local businesses in Skagway but most interesting is this map of the train route we are going to take. I believe this stop where we boarded is Fraser, BC.
Kinda hard to believe but this is a photo from a train through glass, wow.
Same for here too I think. Although I am not sure, this might have been taken from the outdoor sections of each train car, you can stand on in without any glass and shit.
For example this, proof of end car view without glass standing edition, not bad. There were always lots of people taking turns standing in this no glass area, some with very big cameras for photos.
I think this was the border checkpoint for going back to the US as we were technically in the Yukon Canada for the bridge thing. Same deal, guy comes on train car and looks at people with passport and such, nothing special.
All throughout the train we had some guy do voice over narration of notable things we were passing by like this broken old bridge section that was no longer used since the 80’s and or other shit like animals and waterfalls.
Alleged train narrator man made a joke early on in which he repeated a line like 3-4 times, making sound like it was a pre-recorded narration track that broke and was on a loop track then radio silence. At that point I thought that it was also pre-recorded track, but apparently it was not, this man is real, fraud. As far as I am concerned, he wasn’t real even after seeing him later on the train.
Apparently some of these trees are what they called ‘charlie brown’ trees because they look patehtic like the charlie brown xmas episode. I can’t remember but there was another type of tree which was the same kind of trees that bob ross painted, the ‘happy little trees’ these were those I think.
Depending on what side you sat you got some better landscape as opposed to just mainly just green shit. Sometimes you see water like this nice.
Where I was sitting the majority of the time the window looked like this, nice but it gets boring over time. On the right of the train had alot more better looking stuff.
We passed a very small waterfall which was like only there for like 3 seconds but I managed to take a decent pic of it.
Occasionally there is a break from the usual trees and ravines and you get some water shit like this, nice and interesting.
And here we are back on our bus again after the train. I took a lot of photos on that train so this is only a small fraction of the nice looking photos I took, but you get the idea.
After our bus got back to Skagway proper, we decided to do a final explore of the town for shopping and whatnot. Let’s go, we only have a few hours left before we need to be back on the boat again before it leaves. I am pretty sure Whitehorse is pretty far from here but yea whatever.
Oh boi, no tourist spot is complete without these collectable bullshit coins I like to buy. Oh yea boi, brought that shit.
As Skagway is a ghetto tourist town these days, there is lots of shit like this all around showing the history and whatnot.
This restaurant/pub currently is called the Red Onion and apparently back in the day it was a brothel for hoes in gold rush days which is a popular spot for tourists to catch some food and such, they also had merch being told inside as well.
This store was quite popular selling fried bread. The fried bread is similar to beavertails basically, wanted to try some.
Unfortunately for us it was near the end of the day, around 5:45pm and the store was running out of dough. By the time we lined up, there was like only 6 orders worth left or so. My sister got in line and missed it by just 1 or 2. Ah-well, shit happens I guess.
As a tourist town mainly for cruise ships, the town more or less shuts down when around 5:30-6pm, after that it’s like completely closed, which is where this time was. Shops closing up and visitors going back to their boats. Hmm. Since there wasn’t anything left more to do, we went back to our boat to rest a bit and wait for our next rotational dining experience.
For today we are going to Animators Palate, which focuses on animation and drawing from Disney in general.
It is considered by many to be the best restaurant on Disney cruise lines, let’s see about that.
The entranceway is filled with drawings and doodles from all the popular disney animated classics and even newer 3d ones like Moana and tangled, cars etc.
Nice drawings for sure. More Ariel representation here than in Tritons restaurant which is a shame.
Nice drawings for sure. Tangled is popular but nowhere near as popular as Frozen that is for sure.
Our menu spread for tonight, lots of interesting eats for tonight.
Proof of diners existence as the palate.
Proof of eating time, lets go.
Some bread and some dip what was not that good. Butter is best. They always have standard ass dinner rolls and two fancy rolls that they give us but to me bread is just bread.
Potato and bacon soup, pretty solid shit.
My mom or sister got this lentil soup, was also good they said too.
Got this salad with fruits and shit, pretty refreshing, good shit.
Another app dish I got of serrano ham, cheese and some bread stick. Overall solid deli meat charcuterie shit.
Some vegetable tarlet thing that I think my sister or mom had, said it was pretty good shit. Good eating for vegans and veggie lovers.
Some cream and pocket cheese dumplings that my mom got, pretty solid I think they said.
I ordered like three mains, this first one is like herb roasted chicken and shit, pretty good although the chicken is bit dry, the flavor is very good however, worth it.
Some other veggie samosa wrap thing my sister got, not sure but she said it was also quite good, for some reason their veg non-meat items are really good said my sister.
My second main was this roast beef tenderloin steak, pretty good shit, tender and well seasoned perfectly cooked. I think it was teriyaki glazed with sauce. For some reason they pared this shit with bokchoy and it didn’t match at all, didn’t eat that shit however lol.
My third main was basically this base veal pasta, I only ended up eating like half of it cause too full and the other portion of it shared with my mom and sister. It was ok, as expected from tomated meat based pasta.
My sister got this seared tuna steaks, while it looks so good, it’s actually quite shit, terrible in fact and has a bit of a Mexican flare with the corn and other seasonings pairing. A flop for sure, don’t order Tuna on a boat, it’s not going to be no matter what.
My sister and myself requested something unsual for a drink, pineapple juice from our waiter, but in the end he came through and delivered us said pineapple juice, hell yea. Beats the hell out of that brought drink the other day and doesn’t cost extra yea boi.
Near the end of the meal the lights dim and all the screens play some sort of video montage of all of Disney’s notable animated movies from old to new with special music, this is the beginning of the show if you will and eating/service pauses.
It eventually concludes to the point where Mickey shows up and begins painting the restaurant in colors with magic from it’s default black and white.
Everyone claps and shit while he does this performance and the restaurant environment changes in color. It concludes with all the waiters and staff that serve the guests come out together and do a little parade of recognition of sorts, nice. Well done show for a eating experience.
When the show is done, normal service resumes and we get our dessert. This is my rice pudding like custard thing, pretty good shit.
I believe a key lime pie thing that my sister got. She said it was very citrusy very good.
My mom’s no added suger dessert made of beet root, which inherently has alot of sugar. She said it was too sweet, I mean what do you expect even with a no-added sugar dessert? Shit is made with beet root, the main raw ingredient that is used today to make refined white sugar.
After the show, the place has lots of color and a more moody shade now, looks cool.
After dinner we go on a walk on the 4th floor again to see some night aura farming night deck walking. Cool shit.
I admit that my camera makes these photos far more vibrant blue than what it really was but who cares, shit looks really cool. Proof of night deck rounds walking edition after dinner.
After returning from our walk we see that our cleaner guy has made a bunny out of towels cool. Well that ends today our first cruise excursion, from here on out it’s back to back excursion days so it is hard to write them daily especially with shitty internet. Tomorrow we land to Juneau, which is the capitol of Alaska, so let’s see what we do then. Skagway was pretty tiring so yea, hope we survive.
