It’s that time again, Spring Anime 2016 initial impressions. I have high hopes for this season since there seems to be a lot of funny and slice of life shows, my kinda shit.

Kuma Miko – As one may derive from the name of the show, this is about a bear and a shrine maiden girl. Basically slice of life comedy non non biyori style except the main character is a young miko that lives in a village where they are friends with bears and shit due to some ancient contract or something, basically bear had sex with shrine maiden in ancient times as a sacrifice or something and yea, village is bear friendly, kinda not sure but it’s explained in the show but it’s a point of humor which the main girl doesn’t like to talk about. Bears can talk to humans, she has a best bear friend, named Natsu. So yea, main girl wants to move to the city but bear friend doesn’t want her to go. Slice of life-ish, nice cuts and flow. The animation and character designs is pretty good, very clean and crisp. The concept is nothing new but it’s chill enough for me to get behind. Funny, jokes, pretty great op and ending sequences, good voice acting. Will probably watch for sure.

Endride – So yo, I love crystals and shit right, yea I know rite, says the main character. I love my dad, he’s so cool right, but he’s always working and shit. Disregarding the fact that pops is working like mad as a scienist doing some shit on magical crystals, I wanna bring my dad home from the lab cuz he never comes home and it’s his birthday, gotta celebrate yo. So yea, I walk on into the lab like a fool, touch some shit and get magically teleported to what I can only think is the magical “world” that exists within this rock. So once I get there, I see knights and wizards and shit, meet some other gay bro and we be gay together, he’s the prince of some ruined kingdom and wants to regain the throne. Oh, by the way, did I mention that for some reason when shit gets intense I can pull some magical sword out of my ass? Seems like the norm here. Do you like the band Luna Sea? I heard they were cool in the 90’s, but I’m so hipster cool I decided to make one of their new songs as my theme song for my opening, cuz it’s basically like ROCK IN ROLL. ROCK. ENDRIDE. END. RIDE. Wut. Pretty shit show, mild, very mild implied gay or at least the target audience expects it. Whatever, garbage.

Ace Attorney – As the name would suggust, this is basically an anime of Capcom’s series of lawyer games, known in the west as “Phoenix Wright” but apparently main dude’s name is actually “Naruhodo” Ryuichi. Yo, wait a second, … Naru-hodo… yo, is this dude’s name basically “I understand” or “I see”? Shit, wow, if I’m doing it right, mind blown. What the hell is with the Phoenix Wright for english version then? So ya, this show is like probably 10 years made too late but it’s all good and cool, since I haven’t seen much mystery stuff this season yet. Designs look kinda dated and shit but it’s ok, the flow of the show is kind of game-ish in nature, which is natural and fine. Op, end sequence nothing to remember here. Ok show, we’ll see how it goes, maybe watch more.

Pan de Peace! – Mini show about a girl and her friends that love bread. Topics include shit like yo, I love crossiants, yo I love bread and muffins and shit. Yea, this is my kind of shit, slice of life moe solid. Ok character design, good concept. Will watch for sure.

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn RE 0096 – Why. Why does this even exist. When I thought that I was finally done watching all of the Gundam Unicorn OVA which were in the making for like 5 years, fucking Sunrise goes and repurposes all the material and goes and makes a full length show, with “supposed” additional content which was not featured in the OVA’s. Yea, right. I watched this shit, it’s pretty much exactly the full half hour worth of content that you would get when you watch the first OVA. Almost exactly the same shit. Now, Gundam Unicorn was probably the last “serious” Gundam show that was good that I watched but really? Who is this for? I can only think it’s an attempt to get the younger kids to get interested in OG UC Gundam universe which is a valid reason, since Full Frontal is the Shit, worth. While i’m not going to re-watch this, i’ll probably wait around till it’s over and someone else summarizes what was different/added.

Seisen Cerberus – There is something of a long standing tradition, at least in my eyes of anime shows that have some mystical beast name in the title, such as a dragon, bahmaut or whatnot to basically equate to a fantasy wizard magic show with girls with big boobs or harem-ish kind of fare. It’s just the way it is, or at least how I see it. This title however, is sorely disappointing in that department. So we got main guy, opening scene is his parents, king and queen, trying to seal some bad dragon. Mom is pretty good looking, dad whatever. They get owned and some shit happens to their baby, I suppose get’s contract with bad dragon. Everyone is presumed dead after that, cause explosion. Fast forward, boy is now young man, kinda gay. Super try hard. Some shit happens and some cute cat-girl wizard and some pimp looking king warlord comes around and does some shit. Shit happens and they fight for some reason and dragon shows up. End show. Bad. Only thing good is maybe the cat girl badguy, maybe there will be more cute girls but not enough for anything, I think based off mobile game. Whatever, don’t even have proper opening sequence yet.

Mayoiga – Ride to HELL. Basically I’d like to call this show, at least based off first episode, DEATH BUS, cause that’s how it feels to me. So we got a long list of outcasts and strange people riding a bus on some tour to run away to some isolated village to start a new life. All the characters introduce themselves to the tour-guide in a very cult-like kind of tone, saying their online name and reasons for running away and starting a new life. Seems pretty legit. Basically I feel that some mystery will be going on, a mystery called MURDER once they get to the village.  The tone and eerie life-pulse ambience sound in the background suggest that. Main guy is a faggot normal wuss guy but is probably going to be the murderer, just doesn’t know it yet, or the cute shy girl he befriends. Yea, murder is going to happen, it’s just a matter of time. Decent character designs, crisp lines and OK concept. We’ll see if I watch more, maybe.

Space Patrol Luluco – Mini show. Basically aliens and shit are normal in Japan now, main girl is normal but goes to school with aliens and shit. Dad gets frozen/killed by accident or something. She ends up joining some police force on behalf of her dad who is dead since he was a cop. She gets modified/power from police patrol and can transform into a gun. kinda weird. I think this is done by studio Trigger al la Kill la Kill and Ninja Slayer. Will see few more and see how it goes.

Shounen Ashibe Go! Go! Goma-chan – Some mini show about a cute baby seal and some kids. Looks like 1970’s style art intentionally. Shit, not good. Whatever. Kill the seal.

Brotherhood – Final Fantasy XV – I am not really sure why this exists. It’s basically anime short for a game that isn’t even out yet. I suppose this is supposed to get people hyped for Final Fantasy XV, aka Bro-Fantasy which what is looks like to me. The animation is pretty good and the anime designs are true to their 3dCG versions, or at least from what I’ve seen in the past like what, 5-6 years since the game was fist shown, back when it was Final Fantasy XIII Versus. Shit. Well, basically shit is going on, bros are going an an adventure in their ride, have to fight some shit, main guy is op, can use all weapon, unlike his other gay bro that can only use a gun. Yea, not sure, might watch more.

Boku no Hero Academia – Main character wants to be a hero. 80% of the world’s population has awakened to “Quirks” or developed some kind of power or weird ability. Thus over the course of time, “Hero” has become a real profession as badguys with powers do shit and stuff. However, main guy is one of the 20% who can’t do shit, no powers. Sad. However, main guy is determined to become a hero. This show is extremely similar to One-Punch Man, except less bad-ass and less intense, but arguably more depth. Main guy basically meets his childhood hero after he saves him from some shit monster, “All Might” which appears as the ideal Buff Deep-Voiced Aryan Race American Stereotypical man, but just from the first-episode it’s obvious the dude is just in his transformed state and is really like a skinny old guy who doesn’t give a shit. Some useless rivalries with classmates and they make fun of him and such for his dream etc. Some more shit happens. Overall this show is alright, it’s hard to tell if it will keep my interest or attention long term since the main guy is pretty wussy, but at least he’s got determination right? Not bad, ok op and ed and interesting character designs and animation. No good girls yet to be seen, maybe later.
