Late but whatever, this is the stuff I got from Tokyo Treat April 2016. Haruna with ramen because one of the things that I got in this box was a mini Baby Star Ramen snack bowl which is kind of out of the ordinary since it’s well, ramen. I suppose it can be considered a snack depending on your definition of what a snack is and since Haruna is pretty daijoubu, I’m fine with that too.
More crazy ass illustrations from whoever works for Tokyo Treat to do these drawings. Once again the book is filled with cool and informative information about whatever you want to think about. Notable on the cover of the booklet is that this is supposed to be their 1 year anniversary edition, which if I remember correctly, they sent me an email saying so I would get better stuff than usual because of it.
Lifting up the box top reveals some crazy ass sweet treats and goods. They do such a good job packing this shit up tightly and neat, what I expect of Japanese efficiency.
The goods, let’s do this shit:
1 – Some crazy ass Calbee cross-hatched potato chip things. I think it’s supposed to be a special flavor: Potato. I have no idea, on the bag there is a picture of a baked potato, so my guess is that this is supposed to be some special tasty potato only grown in Japan? I think that’s what the booklet said but whatever in the end the flavour is potato. For chips. ok. Don’t give a shit, still pretty good. Ate.
2 – This is some limited edition Pepsi Sakura cola. Do I have any idea what sakura is supposed to taste like? Not really but it’s pink and it’s a carbonated drink so it can’t be too bad. It kind of tastes like a mix of cream soda with cherry and maybe sprite? Kinda hard to describe but it’ alright, not the best but it’s certainly different. This was promoted as one of the special items for their 1 year anniversary.
3 – Some crazy ass panda bear cookies that are chocolate flavour. Must be related to DBZ considering the big ass Z in the background. What is this shit? Why do the panda bears look like they are on crack or something? Maybe it’s supposed to indicate now CRAZY good this shit is because fuck, the bear on the box is going insane. Ate it, not bad, tastes like chocolate cookies, disappointed, move on.
4 – The famous koala bear cookie chocolate things that I think every asian kid has eaten at some point in their lives is included in this box. This variet is supposed to be like pudding or something? Can’t remember. It was the usual to me, taste like chocolate and cookie again. Move on.
5 – Baby Star Ramen Mini package yakisoba flavor. Considering that I made yakisoba for real at home recently I can attest to the fact that yes, this shit does taste like yakisoba. Pretty damn good, crunchy and savory, just how I like my snacks. Good shit.
6 – Some carrot thing that has little flavored rice puff balls inside. Not bad, apparently this is fairly iconic/oldschool candy but I haven’t really seen these anywhere till now. Ah well, they are not bad.
7 – These are like crazy, you know bout those common seeweed sheets they sell everywhere as snacks, usually seasoned with salt and seasame oil? Well this is basically the same thing expect they cut the seaweed sheets in half and then they glue them together with some wasabi stuff to create something like a seaweed wasabi sandwich thing. Hmm. Not bad, very interesting concept and packs a decent punch. Pretty good.
8 – Some little hello kitty toy purse thing that’s a bonus because I get the premium box. Heh, whatever.
9 – Do it yourself candy toy kit thing. Not really sure what this was, gave it to sister to do, don’t’ really care. Probably tasted liek shit, can’t remember.
10 – Pucca. This thing is basically very similar to the koala bear cookie snacks with chocolate. In all honesty I think these are better but it’s basically the same shit. Whatever.
11 – Some super sour dried plum candy. Haven’t opened it, maybe try one day.
12 – You know Ramune? This shit is basically that except in candy form. It’s very soft and very powerful, more than what you would think. It’s ok but you can only eat so much before going insane of sweetness.
13 – Baby Star Ramen special flavor I think? Kind of funny how Baby star ramen is known for it’s dried ramen chip like snacks, but they actually also make real ramen cups of their product as well; just add water and you got yourself a nice meal/snack of ghetto ramen. I can’t really expect much out of this but for what it is it’s alright, edible. Hmm..maybe there is a loot box that has ramen from japan? Shit if there was i would buy that.
14 – Some chocolate flavoured wafer thing. The chocolate in this thing is kind of like aero chocolate bar, except better; basically what aero wanted to be but probably failed at in original conception. Pretty base, nothing fancy, edible wafer chocolate thing.
15 – Hell yes, more chips. Not really sure what company this is from, forgot, but you can already tell it’s supposed to be spicy. It was moderately spicy but nothing that I haven’t had difficulty with. I’ve noticed that for some reason alot of Japanese chips have a very distinct flavor, potato. I dunno, I can’t really describe it, maybe it’s the oil they use in japan or something but japanese potato chips don’t taste the same as like lays or other shit in western countries. Hmm. Whatever, still ate, good shit.
Overall this April box was more enjoyable than the former, containing a lot of chocolate goods and cookie related stuff. Actually there is like 3-4 things that are like wafer/cookie + chocolate snacks. What’s up with that? Is April chocolate time or something? Whatever, they gave me 2 bags of chips, 2 ramen related products and a Pepsi, pretty good. Good shit.
Score: Pretty good shit, a lot better than March.
