Anime Review Summer Season

Summer 2016 Anime Part III

Thunderbolt Fantasy man, this season’s surprise gem…at least for me. Fuck. Got some more fag shit and a few more pleasant interesting shows possibly.

Ozmafia!! – This is some gay show about some kid who doesn’t know what he’s doing with his life. I dunno, being a mini show about gay boys I’m not sure what to think but for one thing, I don’t like the way the characters are designed, they look super deformed but not really. So we have some fag walking around in the forest, some school I guess, then he gets attacked by some military gay boy, fag runs away, bumps into his new school, meets some gay things and yea whatever the end. I think it’s supposed be be vampires or something? Whatever, not for me.

Tsukiuta. The Animation – And so the gay continues. This one the show starts off with some girl, she is like super hype and shit right, liek ohmagawd Jin or whatever from <Insert Gay Idol Group> is so hawt, he mai bae 4 lyfe >.< and is all like going to go to a handshaking event a few days from now. Cue girl getting sick and is sad. Asks gay little brother to go instead of her to get the merch and warez, tries to show him how how good the group is and how this one dude, let’s call him Jin, because I really can’t even remember his name; is her favorite. Basically the little boy goes on and does some shit, ends up meeting Jin and the idol group ahead of the event but doesn’t even know it’s them because he doesn’t give a shit. So the idol group and Jin somehow end up hanging out with the kid as he shows them around town and eats shit and play games. They say goodbye to the kid later in the evening as the boy has to go line up to the idol event. Yea, so little boy get surprised when he meets Jin and the other fags at the handshaking event “I guess you never suspected that I was Jin all along…..ahahahahahahahahaha”. Whatever. So boy goes back home and tells his hype sister the story and she is like jealous and shit because she’s not gay. The End. Wut. I am not really sure what this show is based off of, I can only assume mobile game? Whatever, gay boys be gay for what it is. I can understand why some women may like this but yea, not for me.

Kono Bijutsubu ni wa Mondai ga Aru! – I love mai waifus. That’s mai reason to live. The End. That’s basically what this show is about. So we have main girl, she is main girl, she is moderately attractive and is in the art club where they draw fruit and shit. The art club consists of only her, some dude who is the president and one other guy, who she basically likes. Cool Cool. Sounds pretty base but the main thing about this dude she likes is that he’s only in the art club so that he can draw his ultimate 2d waifu. So the guy she likes is an otaku and all that shit and only cares about 2d girls? Not a problem. She tries her best. To funny reaction to the dude. Basically this is a comedy slice of life with hints of romance slight drama. The main girl is good enough, the president is whatever, just a lazy bitch dude, main dude is pretty jokes, he has his priorities straight yo. Gotta draw that ultimate 2d waifu. In the first episode he does a pretty good waifu and says shit like once I finish mai waifu, I am going to quit the art club. The main girl is like sad and shit obvious and tries to convince him to stay and that she will be lonely etc. Some mild drama/funnies. Uses the main girl as a model but ends up drawing something totally different and asks her to sit in weird poses so he can draw the same panties that she wears on his 2d waifu. lol of course bro. Good concept, good character designs and pretty good 2d waifus, this is a good show. Will watch more for sure.

Planetarian – This is a relatively short show, from what I understand it will be something like 5 episodes, the first episode is already only 18 minutes so yea. This show is based off a visual novel of the same name which I actually played many many years ago; it’s been so long I really can’t remember, possibly maybe even 10 years ago granting that the game came out originally in 2004 and pending English translation delay. But in any case, I can understand why this shit is so short, the visual novel itself can actually be cleared in only a few hours, so yea, not a whole lot of content here other than a single linear interesting story. The story basically goes like this, the world is blown up in some post apocalypse time. Main dude is some scavenger guy, goes into the city which was abandoned like 30 years ago. Goes into a planetarium, meets a cute robot girl who is something of a custodian of the place or tour guide, still active and doing her daily duties like greeting guests and preparing the star show. So yea, main dude is like wtf are you doing there is no one here, and wants to leave but ends up staying the night cause it’s raining. The End. Well not really, basically what happens is that the dude ends up helping the robot girl fix some star projection thing. From what I saw, the animation is decent and so are the character designs, being Key and all that’s something that varies greatly.  Not bad, will probably watch it all since I can’t remember exactly the final outcome of the game.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure – Diamond is Unbreakable – While this is technically a continuation of the previous series, it finally feels like the damn show is getting somewhere. The first half of this show is pretty shit in comparison to it’s other JoJo predecessors, especially Stardust Crusaders but maybe things will get better. Like, fucking main dude doesn’t do shit, this JoJo can literally be summed up as “JoJo my sweet home town” or “JoJo suburban edition”. The new opening is way better and hopefully a sign of better things to come. Will end up watching regardless, even if it’s shit.

Alderamin on the Sky – Apparently this was hyped. I do not understand why, but I have been told that this was hyped and people were excited for it. I do not understand why people would like to hype such a shit show but different takes for different people I guess. So yea, to me this show is shit. In about 23 minutes I was basically introduced to a cast of very undesirable characters going to some military school or something on a boat. All from  different backgrounds in life, some rich, poor, famous whatever. They have these little fairy creatures which look like teletubbies and glow shit out of their bellies with light, i guess the source of their power I suppose. So yea, shit happens and the boat they are on gets sunk, the main party ends up on an island in enemy territory and one of the people they save from the boat is the princess of their country, some blonde girl. Main dude is a dick, thinks he’s all the shit, main guy is usual dog slave, princess is usual privilaged child, rest of the characters totally forgettable. They do some shit whatever. I guess you can expect some epic war strategy shit from this show because in the intro they have like uniforms and guns and shit but nope, this is not for me. Ugly and boring character designs, snail level pacing and boring content, horrible way to start a first episode. Bad.

Amanchu! – Slice of life show about gay women who live near the sea. Or at least that’s what I’d like to think I am watching. So we have 2 girls, one is a local and is super hype, green hair and is all about the sea and shit, goes scuba diving and swims underwater looking and fish and shit, happy going to high-school first year I think. Then we have second girl, transfer student from tokyo, brown hair, never been to the sea or water, curious shy and nervous, basically the complete opposite of the green main girl. They end up in same class, they have fun times and shit cause they probably gay and become best-est of friends. Yea whatever. I usually love slice of life shows but this time not so much for a variety of reasons. One being is that they overuse super deformed faces wayyyyy too much, way more than it is necessary to convey normal anime expressions and feeling and to me it just looks lazy. This is esspecially apparent in the facial reactions of the main hype green girl, i swear like 75% of all of her faces in the show they use some stupid ass SD expression instead of drawing her proper eyes and shit, it becomes very annoying. Base concept, ugly character expressions/lazy sd, slow pacing, undesirable characters, lesbians implied. Not for me.

91 Days – We have a boy, let’s call him Gino. Why Gino? Because he’s probably Italian and shit. So anyways Gino the boy is having a good life, growing up in America, 1920’s New York i think, his family got a house and shit, has a little bro and some good kid friends. Then his family gets killed by some gangsters and he survives somehow. Fast forward a number of years and he’s all grown up, still in the prohibition era with no booze so of course he’s in that industry making bootleg beer and shit. Basically some shit happens and he shows that he is a bad-ass and basically wants to get revenge on the gangsters who killed his family. OK, that’s basically it I suppose. The opening credits are very movie like, with like black still screens and the names of the creators and yea, I guess they want to go artsy with this one. Whether or not this will be any good is hard to tell. Decent basic premise, hopefully there is more depth to Gino boy, otherwise he’s just the second coming of BiBA-Sama. Dull brown-gray colors and simple character designs but I guess that is to be expected from this time period. Maybe watch more, we’ll see.

Thunderbolt Fantasy – FUCKKKKK. THIS SHOW IS INSANE. I was not expecting this show, literally, I did not see this anywhere on all of the anime lists and guides that come with each season and yes, depending on your definition of “Anime” this may not qualify pending your discrimination. Basically, this show is a hardcore martial arts kung fu Chinese style PUPPET SHOW. FUCK. DID I JUST SAY PUPPET SHOW? Yes, I did. This is some strange fusion of puppets/dolls, 3dcg, real-life special effects and I think some live action and as weird as it sounds, it actually works and looks pretty cool. Think of dynasty warriors except they are realistic dolls/puppets and they are fighting with swords, magic and energy shit, really over the top Chinese style bullshit. From what I gather from the opening scene, a brother and sister are trying to get away from some evil demon crew or something, fighting and killing shit. The bro/sister get cornered and the clouds open up and a evil demon lord king descends from the heavens, chanting some Chinese poem/incantation spelling their imminent ruin and doom. SHIIT so over the top jokes. They exchange words and they fight more, the sister gets away but the brother is utterly destroyed, demon dude basically blows up his head and he dissipates. Fast forward a bit and some wandering swordsman finds the sister girl running away and is all like, hey, whats up, noticing that she is all like all beaten up and half dead. Some bad guys show up and try to get her, swordsman guy is badass and takes care of them. Takes the now passed out girl to some gay looking prettyboy shaman and talks some shit. While this happens one of the main henchmen from the demon lord dude shows up and is all like, hey, I’m gonna get the girl back, main swordsman guy is like no. They fight, badguy is beaten but before he dies from inflicted wounds, HE DECAPITATES HIMSELF. WTF LOLOLOL SHITTTTT, and as his head is flying up in the air, his bird demon or whatever snatches his head and takes it to his master. FUCK WHAT THE HELL. LOLOLOL. Aside from the hardcore nature and surprising violence from a puppet show, the character designs, or rather, puppet designs are all very well detailed and attractive, the girl looks pretty cute for a doll, something like a dollfie I suppose and the guys are all cool and well dressed, especially catered towards women I can only assume. If anything, this show can be summed up as puppet dynasty warriors but with hardcore over the top fighting and violence. LOL SHIT. I am watching this.

Qualidea Code – So we have main guy, he’s kind of a dick but he’s apparently strong. He’s paired up with his “sister” or so they say and they have powers or something. They are enrolled in some army/military academy. They can fly and shit, most of the people in the school can and have powers too. There are other schools, each representing various regions of Japan/Tokyo. They are all on the same side and they fight some unknown invading aliens/monster things. They get graded based on how well they do on these missions, main dude is like fourth out of like thousands. He and his “sister” are the representatives of their school region, I think Tokyo? Can’t remember. Anyways after some world building we are introduced to the other regional school main representative pairs and you can kinda get what they specialize in after they start fighting the enemies. Main guy/girl are mage/magic/spellcasters schoos, there’s another school that are guns/sniper specialists, another school that are melee/sword specialists. Pretty cool. Main guy has some arm thing and can punch shit/fire spells, his “sister” is super bard support, singing songs to buffs everyone and all. Nice. The best school is the melee/sword guys people cause they showed up to the battle on a carrier and their leader looks like Kashima, except with a sword that can get super big lightsaber energy and can basically destroy a mountain in a single swing. Yea, that sounds shonen manga enough. From my understanding this is an original anime, so it’ll be interesting where this goes, hopefully something more risky and not into the realm of BiBA-SaMa story level. Great character designs, good interesting concept, although a bit baity, will probably watch more.

Still more to come…
