I’ve been going to Fan Expo for a few years now and in general the event has been getting better and better with each passing year. I think this is the third maybe fourth time in a row I decided to go down and with it my first gallery post regarding the subject. First and foremost as many others will tell you, you don’t go to Fan Expo for anime or anything Japan related, you go there for sci-fi, fantasy, gaming, movies, toys, television shows and other nerdy endeavors, anime stuff is just tacked on as a convenient sideshow in some capacity. So if you go down there expecting the second coming of AN, you will be sorely disappointed; however, if you like a lot of different shit and take an interest to super hero movies, sci-fi, gaming and general nerdy stuff then it will be enjoyable for you.
In terms of amount of images I will be posting here this will be the largest amount I have posted yet to date on this blog/site, over 140+ so if your on mobile on data, yea, that’s about 20megs of your data right there just loading this page, too bad. Without my further rambling, let’s go do this shit!
Just like previous years, you buy tickets to this thing from the underground spiral tunnel. This year however they got a bit more organized and put in a cosplay prop security check table in advance and a few tables to write your registration name and shit, nice.
At the gates, about to pay my $45 bucks. I went on Sunday and that was the cost. On Saturday this shit is $60. Fuck that’s pretty expensive, it’s been getting more and more each year.
The horde before the storm in.
Got in, when I was lining up a mother and her kids were dressed up as storm troopers, pretty cool I guess although the masks were pretty ghetto.
Lego had a very big presence this Fan Expo with many large lego creations such as this batman one above. Kid looks sad.
Some lego ninja nearby aswell.
They had a little section for people/kids to build buildings to populate this landscape. I am assuming that at the start of the day it looks like this and by the end it would be a busy metropolis. Sponsored by Lego Minecraft. Hmmm, about damn time I would think.
I think this is harley quinn? maybe not and just some crazy jester thing.
Some pretty nice stuff in the artist alley this year. Notice that in the above image their print for the strike freedom is “sold out” shit, gundam seed 4 life.
As one of the first people to get in at the opening doors the artists alley is pretty empty, which is nice.
Pokemon obviously has a huge presence this year and it seems like everyone had some pokemon related shit. This guy was selling metal pokeballs.
Pretty ace painting of Luke Skywalker. Mark Hamill was one of the main guests this Fan Expo so it’s understandable that Star Wars stuff would also pop up more than usual.
Interesting. Some people are hardcore cosplayers and they sell prints and books of themselves. Heh, I thought this was something only Japan does with their cosplay. Not bad fifth element cosplay. Nice.
Very popular artist booth Sakimichan that has a huge amount of prints of sexy waifus and husbandos. I was so early the artist wasn’t at the table yet. Heh.
Damn son, that’s some hot shit right there. Overwatch continues to dominate in presence and popularity.
Very cool and stylized Pokemon art for sell. Shit is expensive but I suppose it has it’s charm. This guy’s display is amazingly well done, look at the effort and lighting!
I tend to walk around and take pictures of artists displays but these dudes happen to be sitting there, I asked them if I could take a photo, of course they obliged.
Some more art. These guys had some old and new anime shit featured.
Pretty nice art we got here. Pretty recent characters and this table had lots of love live, idolmaster and sailormoon stuff, although many have much of the same.
Kinda shit but ah well, everyone can’t be good.
One of the few artists tables that featured some kancolle stuff. I’ve seen this artist appear at AN and fanexpo last year I think and I always end up buying something from her.
Pretty cool but still wouldn’t buy. Even if it was last day and only $100.
Pretty hipster looking shirts we got there.
Bait stuff indeed but worth it if your into this kind of stuff. I suspect girls or women would buy this stuff.
Another fairly popular artist with really good art. Notice the several “Sold Out” labels. Wow, that’s pretty good selling; that or the artist vastly underestimated her skill/popularity and didn’t print enough.
A pokemon table with some jokes and some other whatever art. About Lagom minus I suppose.
Pretty crazy cute art and nice shirts. Not sure if this is based off anything or original.
Walked outside a bit and saw this bitch. Jafar.
Loki, but I think this is a women? Honestly it looks like a man still, kinda hard to tell, not sure.
Hasbro, the toy makers that are in charge of Star Wars and Transformers toys had a special shop to buy limited edition shit. This poster I am assuming is the best thing I suppose. Shit look at that art, that scale.
Fuck. Just look at this shit, the dude is a giant – a TITAN if you will if other transformers are on this things hand firing some shit.
Scale model of ninja turtle Rafayal. Pretty good, shit movie reboot however.
He-Man Skeletor made of lego I think? Not sure, maybe it’s bootleg lego competitors.
Hello, Hello Kitty.
Oh. I see now. This shit is Mega Bloks. So yea, basically bootleg lego.
I have no idea, looks funny though.
Turtle statue of Leonardo. Good to have that women in the photo for scale purposes.
I think this may be one of the most jokes things I saw at this Fan Expo. Really? What the fuck? Lol. Janes Chicken Nuggets and Star Wars collaboration? Really?
I think you are supposed to enter a contest by posing with lightsabers and shit. Not racist at all with that black guy in front.
Vikings booth, not bad, they had some people offering to do your hair in braids like a viking.
Mr. Robot booth. Pretty cool and a lot of effort. I heard the show is pretty good but ahwell, I don’t really watch tv shows.
Powerpuff girls thing. Not sure exactly what this was for. This had some thing I think where kids could do something but not sure what the activity was. For Cartoon Network I guess.
Line up to get into Hasbro store. Kinda odd really.
Wow. I must say, the art on the boxes is pretty well done and cool but damn, shit’s pretty expensive. The quality better be good, for that price I could buy a decent 1/8 scale anime figure.
Uhh..what the fuck? Is this the kind of quality that I get? Well what do you expect, this is transformers, not gunpla or gundam kits after all.
So, the big ass poster on the wall is advertising for this Fortress Maximus toy that I saw in the previous pic. Hmm..reasonable but still looks like shit.
They also had some limited edition star wars shit.
And some nice marvel/spider man stuff too.
Game area, some boy playing some shit.
Guess the game is For Honor. This game was pretty hyped up at the past two E3’s so I hope it turns out ok. It looked good before just hope that the game is better than this art that they have on the wall, pretty shitty.
This year is Star Trek’s 50th anniversary and they had these girls taking photos and collecting selfies of you and making a collage of some sort with the mini photos. Nice.
Xbox time, some game called recore. Don’t give a shit. Looks like that boy is having a great time though.
Dead Rising 4 booth. Don’t give a shit but the booth itself is well done.
I think we got Teemo and some anime fag boy battling it on guitar hero or rock band whatever. I thought these games were dead? Guess they trying to bring it back.
Eb games giving out free shit and with the aid of zombie santa, not bad. They gave out an enormous amount of free shit on Sunday.
Playstation VR booth where you can test this shit. All of the game stations you had to line up to try the shit and this along with For Honor had the longest lines. I couldn’t be bothered.
Do I have to spend $3000 dollars for this full setup? Not sure what car game.
For some reason Brock university was pushing very hard to promote themselves at the convention. Dunno why, they had lots of banners and even take away shit.
Some blow up dinos doing their things with lightsabers.
Lego Wonder Women. Too bad that your movie will also probably be shit.
Star wars statues that are kinda like budda things. Cool.
Some seller that only had just buttons and shit. Lots of Pokemon.
Gay black man with sunglasses and a gun arm. Not Barret.
Not sure where these two are from. I think justice league?
Honestly, I’m not sure where this is from either. Looks like it took some effort to make the stuff.
Overwatch’s Mercy, except in maid clothes. Really great wings, too bad that cosplayer opted for the easier route and didn’t do her regular clothes.
A questionable Jedi knight with a storm trooper and an American styled Boba Fett. I think the two helmet guys are friends and the bootleg jedi was just some random that wanted to be part of the action.
I have taken an interest in taking photos of people sitting down on their phone. This girl I think is that crazy girl from Gundam Seed Destiny? You know’ one of Shin’s crazy bitches that died? Not sure.
Shit son. This pikachu. Looks like he’s coming after -choo.
Those bad guy robot things from Dr Who and some kids.
Hmm..people playing cards on the ground? There’s a game room specifically for this purpose guys. Not sure but I think this is yugioh?
That same mercy cosplayer helping or touching this bear guy. Hmm..
Luke Skywalker came to town. Pretty damn good I must say, even with the robotic arm and beardy look from the new movie.
Not entirely sure but I think this is an Overwatch character except in jokes maid clothes. Nice
Same person, as you can see, this is obviously a dude based on the body build or at least a very muscled built women.
Honestly no idea but I think this must be from Zelda because of the sword? Not bad cosplayer either way, looks cool.
Guy must be like shit, they ran out of pizza? Fuck.
Spider-man bro, what’s with the Captain America hat yo? I thought he was on Iron Man’s side in Civil War? Whatever, spidy-bro.
Not cosplay, just want your love, and your wheelchair at sci-fi speed dating.
It appears that this man is “Disturbed” about something. Ipad? Really? Shades? Here?
Some complex bullshit lineup to get into watching esports. Today’s show is apparently Counter Strike Finals. Deadpool is like, yo I can do this shit too.
Inside that room for esport events. The production value is actually very high as it can be seen. They have lights cameras and this giant tv cube screen in the middle above where the commentators are sitting.
In the back are the teams for Counter Strike. From what I understand the teams in the final were Immortals vs. Day9. That has no meaning for me whatsoever but I think Immortals were from Brazil, considering the Brazil flag in the back and audience cheering when Day9 won, maybe from Canada or US.
You mainly stand around, but there are some things that you can sit on like the ground if you want. Nice blue soft light over everyone.
Looks like the game just began.
I think this shit lasted for about an hour. About halfway I got tired of standing and sat down on some stage/podium elevated thing. Feels good. In the end team BR won for this set, too bad.
Brutal Lugi. Not sure about the pose however, did he always do this kind of shit?
Nice pidgy with some overwatch guy I think. Cool effort bros.
What if the Justice league was composed of Klingons? Well you get something like the mashup cosplay above.
Going down the escalator in the north building. Looks pretty busy.
Pretty good Kylo Ren, but then again for this cosplay all you really need is good quality clothes, props and not be a midget.
This Star Wars 501 Storm Trooper Legion association group has appeared at Fan Expo for years but with the new movie out and new fandom, they put even more effort. This one storm trooper noticed me taking a photo and blasted me. Fuck I’m dead yo.
That speed racer bike from Return of the Jedi and one of those shitty forest troopers that can’t aim for shit.
Back to the future’s Doc, Christopher Lloyd. I managed to get a decent picture of him from so far away. Looks pretty good for his age.
For a second I thought this was a dude but it was a statue, still pretty cool and very well done with details.
Brent Spiner, Data from star trek the next generation was in the house. Looking pretty old man.
Apparently George Takei was supposed to be here but based on this lineup, I guess he wasn’t in today.
Oldschool batman and robin was here today, I think the man in the very middle of this above picture is Adam West, but it’s hard to tell. I’m pretty sure it is.
Some famous cos-players apparently, Yaya Han. There was a lineup for Mark Hamill but I couldn’t get a very good picture of him, although I’m not 100% sure it was him, it’s hard sometimes to tell since these actors just look like regular dudes on the street without makeup or shit.
Why not be the captain of the enterprise like this dude? It’s star trek’s 50th anniversary after all.
Pretty interesting take on Darth Vader and Flash. Flash could have been a bit taller, or rather, maybe he should have been a storm trooper instead.
Not bad Attack on Titan cosplay. Honestly I’m not sure which characters they are supposed to be. Not sure if the one on the left is a guy or girl; probably girl because of earrings; but you never know these days, equability yo.
North building also had some shops and stuff. Here are some cute and cuddly fur ball things.
This women is apparently supposed to be a professional cosplayer. She looks pretty good but I wouldn’t be so sure about buying one of her professional photography prints as she was trying to sell me. I normally wouldn’t even bother asking someone behind a booth for a photo but some other guy just did it randomly so I followed suit right after. A little awkward since asking for a photo from her is basically the equivalent of asking an artist for a free print, a ghetto print mind you.
Fucking Bane and Scarecrow are the shit. Best of bros.
We got more star wars guys. Some random Jedis from what I can assume are from one of the many other spin-off media and a cosplay of that one fat ass pilot that blew up in a new hope.
More of these mystery boxes. These ones were blank but had some interesting words and references written on the boxes suggesting that what is inside is related to the contents. I asked the shopkeeper if this was the case, long story short; no, it’s not. Fuck these guys then.
Whoa whoa whoa, pretty ace Jason Voorhees cosplay. Nice touch with the girls.
Another angle and a different victim. “I sense poor moral standing among this youth, I must kill him.”
This is supposed to be alien and a marine I guess, I didn’t get a good picture as they ran off.
A replica bat mobile. Not bad. Apparently the back to the future delorean was also supposed to be here as well but I missed it. I also heard that it was a replica, and that it was a pretty shitty replica.
I’m guessing how some people must feel after 3-4 days at the convention.
Making my way back to the main south building. It’s good to see that it’s a little less crowded than previous years and that they have more room to spare by opening the lower level of the north building to have stuff.
I have no idea what this is from but they were having fun and that’s what matters most.
While going down/up the escalator they had music blasting with this guy responsible. Not sure why he made a pose but I suppose it’s to impress the blue boba fett to his right.
Not sure who this was originally, suspected from Overwatch.
Ok, yea, these are Overwatch guys indeed, now that D-Va cosplay girl showed up. Nice ambitious post we got there.
I can only tell Overwatch shit if there are girls present because the girl character designs are good. How am I supposed to know some random armor helmet guy is from a FPS?
Some crazy looking communist costume shit. Fuck.
Another girl checking her shit on her ipad. Cosplay unknown.
Another dude with a coke checking up on his stocks and shit.
Nvidia as some boy dressed up as the Dr Who badguy robots, I believe Daleks.
Stan Lee zone, as this is supposed to be the man’s final Canadian appearance. Can’t see shit though or if the man is actually there.
Wow, coming back near the end of the day and it looks like the lego minecraft city has really filled in with people’s shit.
What the fuck is this? Not sure if supposed to be terrorist attack or the Asian grocery store.
Some cute plush cat things.
Sitting at the tables at the back as they clean up after they announce that Fan Expo is over.
Brought some prints from Sakimichan. Notice how the nude ones have borders and the paper is different/thinner than her main clothed prints. Hmm, interesting. The NSFW ones cost technically a bit more and the combo that I decided to pick was 3 prints + 2 free. For additional dollars I was able to get the 2 NSFW prints which is normally not possible since NSFW have their own pricing tier. Characters are Ahri from League, Motoko from Ghost in the Shell, D-Va from Overwatch, Tifa from FF7 and Chun-li of Street Fighter.
A closer look at the nude Ahri and Motoko. I was honestly surprised that NSFW prints were even allowed to be sold; so with that in mind, I feel obligated to support her and this niche market, or at the very least, supporting the artist for even going to such efforts to offer such goods. But seriously, how can I pass up boobs? Buy it.
Another few prints from an artist that I haven’t really seen before. Fairly cheap compared to the more famous and popular artists such as Sakimichan. If this artist was at AN, she could have easily sold for more and it would still sell but since this is Fan Expo with a lot of competition and larger and more questionable (cheaper) audience base, I think cheaper is better.
A few additional things that I brought aside from pretty collectable print artworks. Brought some kancolle clear cards that has gum, got damaged Haruna and Fubuki Kai2 cards. Nice, I wasn’t sure what I was going to get since these were different than the Weiss Schwarz cards that I randomly brought before, might buy them again for fun if I see them around next time. Some more boat buttons from the same artist booth that I got from AN. Two manga books, Anne Happy 2 and nichijou 3; yea, they never have 1 or shit ahwell, will pick them up one day. Also brought some cute little sushi plushie from an artist in artist alley, it’s squishy and soft.
Buttons are Iowa, Yamato and Kashima. Fuck, I actually totally forgot that I already brought Kashima last time at AN and ended up picking her again out of a pool of like 20-30 other boats available. Ahwell, gotta make note for next time. I spoke to the artist, or at least one of her helpers and commented that they already have Warspite as a button as he was all like, yea I know, I always tell her what she should draw and mentioned that she only got around to doing Bismark like last month, while Prinz was around for awhile now. Hmm.
Fucking EB games just loves to give out free shit. All of the above are from EB games. Sonic bullshit, KOF, Project Diva Miku, Shin Megami Tensai and Doom. Likely roll up and forget about for 20 years once they become famous and worth something, maybe, just maybe.
Look at all this other crazy paper shit that I got. Too much to say but of note are also from EB games, DBZ metal dvd case, that has no disk in it. SAO mini artbook (blue thing). Also worth mentioning are a free star wars hallmark card and some ghetto papercraft and comic from Brock university.
More bags from EB games and AMC I think. The hat is so Toronto, “6” with a gun on it. Fuck shit, too real. Given away from EB games. The hat is actually for rainbow 6 fps game but without that knowledge, no one would know the wiser, especially when you live here.
All in all this Fan Expo was pretty good. There was obviously a very strong sci-fi presence with star wars and star trek fandom and the usual popularity from superhero stuff like Marvel and DC. Even though all of DC’s superhero movies this year were so shit, people tried to embrace it hard, with tons of Joker and Harley Quinn cosplay, more often than not; very very shitty cosplay but once in awhile you get some good ones. Anime as usual is low-key with only the attendees evidently interested as seen with cosplay and merch, while gaming is very strong this year with pokemon and Overwatch taking a very big presence. League is still around, but a shadow of it’s former popularity.
While there wasn’t anything super hype or particularly outstanding this convention, I just can’t help but feel that it was more organized and well rounded in all aspects than previous years, at least much better than last year. Last year’s Fan Expo was pretty shitty I must say, dunno why, just the feeling or excitement wasn’t there; this time however everyone was happy and energetic. Maybe because of the many high profile stars that were here this time? Not sure. The esport room/event was a great addition; something which I would be glad to see again in future Fan Expos as well as the overall expanded convention space. Good job Fan Expo, you made charging me $45 for entry not feel so bad.
Bonus Phone Pics:
Side by side of the special goods at Sakimichan. Notice that she actually offers credit card payment. Wow. Probably some special phone or device app.
The booth where I brought that little sushi plush. The girl and her mother noticed me taking a photo and asked me to take a closer look at their warez. I ended up with a tuna nigri. Might buy more if I see them again at future cons. It’s nice.
Saw this fellow boat fiend and just had to take a photo of him. Bad photo but whatever, Akagi and bucket. I spoke with him for like 5 minutes or so about boats and if he played the shit flash game. He used to play religiously but quit after Fall Event 2015 but might get back to it one day, says he needs to get his Iowa and Warspite once they are available again. Boat waifus and admirals respect, yea.
Lego area has this section for kids/people to build block parts that can be used to build this giant star wars droid lego piece. At the end of the day on Sunday the dudes had to take it down. Some kids still there were like, what are you doing? Guy is like, we be taking him down now, Fan Expo is over. Kids is like, noooo.
The End.
Shit, this was so long. Ah well.
