Kancolle Whatever

Heroes of Kancolle Summer 2016 Event

According to the boat wiki, all of the bosses in this summer event got swimwear and or summer clothing CG art. Hmm..and based off the event icon on the wiki, it appears that battleship hime has a very nice ass. Ok. This is good. While this post is supposed to be about the Heroes of our Time, the great boat waifus that led me to my victory, my very easy victory; let’s take a moment to appreciate the designs for the abyssal bad guy boats. I don’t normally comment on them since they are usually pretty well designed and stylized but this is the first time they decided to give them a break and showcase them with special art. Man, they are pretty hot, especially this seaport hime pictured above. Anyways, bad guy boats aside, these are the hero boats that did their shit well.

10. Kawakaze

In the same class of destroyer as Poi and Shigure, most people as expected didn’t give a shit when Kawakaze was first released some events ago. However, as expected she got kai2 upgrade and everyone went to level her as her design and power just like the former improved significantly. It’s something of an unofficial  (or maybe it’s official?) thing that when Shiratsuyu class destroyers get kai2 they get a total makeover along with the signature hair/dog hair flaps and in Kawakaze’s case a ninja/assassin badass clothing theme. Anyways, Kawakaze was used in my runs of E1 and I think E2, lest to say they were sub heavy and was pretty easy along with her higher than usual anti-sub stats for a destroyer. So yea, I pretty much just wanted to use her after leveling her this far so why not use her here. Good job ninja doggy.

9. Ooyodo

After getting Ooyodo a number of events ago, she finally makes an appearance in this summer event’s heroes of our time. The quest NPC girl turned actual boat waifu honestly hasn’t had much use other than for World 1-5 Extra stage monthly clears since she has 4 equipment slots, meaning more anti-sub shit. However, E1 is all subs yo, so as expected, I brought along Ooyodo and she performed very well. I had actually considered bringing Kashima but I wasn’t sure if she would satisfy route requirements of a light cruiser so yea, I was to lazy to even test so just went with I knew already works. Good job quest girl.

8. Isuzu

People used to make fun of Isuzu because apparently admirals only used to level her to farm for the relatively good radar that she had equipped when she got to kai, which was pretty easy. However, that sentiment changed with a recent update that brought along her kai2 upgrade and with it, a new battle mechanic – the preemptive anti-sub attack that came even before opening preemptive torpedo cut-in. While all ships could technically trigger this if you have a very high anti-sub stat, Isuzu kai2 has this built into her. Lest to say everyone levelled her up and used her in the all sub map E1, making it even more easy. I actually already had her at like level 50-60 when her kai2 upgrade came so it wasn’t so bad for me. It also helped that at the time she had her summer swimming suit cg art which surprisingly revealed that this black haired twin-tailed light cruiser had pretty big boobs, much larger than most people expected considering her previous art was kind of shit, her normal kai2 cg art also reflects this. Good job hidden big boobs.

7. Fusou/Yamashiro

Fusou normally makes this list in some capacity but I finally got around to leveling up and kai2-ing her sister ship Yamashiro, which was good for this event.  The 2 aviation battleships were used heavily on E3 and E4 as the backbone of my combined carrier fleets. Equipped with those Zuiun planes that hybrid aviation ships can use, they added additional air superiority and power for my runs, not to mention fairly strong shelling power that helped kill more armored enemies with battleships and carriers. It also helps that they had their summer swimsuits cg active, like Isuzu. Good job misfortune battleship boats.

6. Yuudachi/Shigure

You know the drill, Poi and best friend Shigure always makes the list since they OP strong stats. Once again, summer swimsuits contribute to use. Used in all maps actually because I roll easy mode and dont’ give a shit really. Good all round versatile destroyers for basically every role, anti-sub, escort, night battle, final kills etc. Good job Poi and friend.

5. Kitakami/Abukuma

b10054f8b87f715e6ae97508ac62e3cd

Same deal with Poi and friend, Kitakami and Abukuma were used wherever possible to allow for opening torpedo strikes, which is to say, most of the maps allowed so and as usual place very consistently on these lists of mine. Shit. These guys are always on the list but I can’t help but say every time that the opening torpedo mechanic is broken, especially for Abukuma who is as far as I remember the only light cruiser that can actually do this, they seriously need to kai2 some other light cruisers and give them this ability too, most notably I think Tenyruu and Tatsuta need some ups badly. Good job funny voiced boat and annoying voice boat.

4. Ryuujou

6115dbc16de30abcb65ad14e6d45c046

I only have 2 decently leveled up light carriers because I think light carriers are shit, and they are. Thing is that all events for this shit game basically require at some point that you have to use them because I dunno, almost any other full carrier would be to strong? Whatever the case, for the first time ever, the famously flat, twin tailed, tsundere, Osaka speaking dialect light carrier – Ryuujou, finally makes her appearance on this heroes list. I like Ryuujou, she is funny and her personality is funny and among light carriers, has the best design in my opinion considering all others look like shit. I actually sunk her by accident in my earlier boating days on the way to her kai2 but it’s ok, I got her again and it’s good. Ryuujou was the flagship in my combined carrier fleets for E3 and E4 because fuck, I really didn’t want to go back to base if the weakest ship in the crew got hit into red, so yea, keep that moral at 100 at all times and she almost never got hit into red, which is great. Good job flat air boat.

3. Akagi/Kaga/Taihou

787ff331786780c9f67b9dd2b02b2d42

Not pictured above; Akagi but whatever you get the idea. So yea, I heard carriers are good for this event, and rightfully so, these 3 carriers pulled their weight and did the vast majority of damage to enemy boats, usually killing at least 2-3 even before shelling phase begins in their opening airstrikes in E3 and E4. Pair that shit with air supremacy and air land base strikes and we are talking about some serious pearl harbor bullshit going on, like for some pre-boss nodes I literally killed everything before shelling phase. Special mention to the strong planes I have somehow acquired from various other boats and such. Yea, Taihou is good and shit, too much bauxite overall but whatever, shit got done when it needed to be done, so I’m happy about that. Good job air boats.

2. Iowa

aa04c659ccd5ab3d4da6cd8ca1dca95a

Burger boat makes her appearance already and with good reason; she’s pretty damn strong. While Iowa was also the top new waifu of the previous event, it just goes to show how powerful she really is, looking at her stats and equipment, she’s basically sub-Yamato class but is still considered a fast battleship, wut; op shit. Iowa was used in E3 and E4 as part of the combined fleet and consistently did huge damage to enemies; rarely ever missing.  There’s not much else a say here, Iowa had one job and that was to do huge damage in the shelling phases so that the carriers can focus on the boss, and that’s exactly what she did. Good job burger boat.

1. Maya

de6cb518abab7b4d0c8af5a1aabd9996

And here we are again, the true Hero of Our Time, Maya takes the spot as the most valuable boat during this summer event. Similarly to the previous spring event, the latter stages of event maps were heavy air power maps and with that in mind comes the necessity for anti-air cut-ins in order to lessen and mitigate air battle damage. As the only heavy cruiser that specializes in anti-air and can do the anti-air cut in thing, Maya was a shoe in for the spot. I think the fleet composition only required 2 destroyers and I opted to forgo using a Akizuki sister since the E4 boss was an installation type enemy, might aswell do more damage along the way and make it even easier for the air land base thing to do it’s thing. Honestly, even if you weren’t able to target the E4 boss with land airbase strikes, you didn’t’ really need it if you had air power and with Maya, getting to the boss with most of your planes intact was almost a guarantee. Maya OP, they really need to get another heavy cruiser with similar anti-air capabilities, just like the shit with Abukuma, otherwise Maya will be a stable of fleet for a long time. Ahwell, I like all of the Nao Toyama voiced boats so I can’t really complain. Good job Maya, you da real Hero of Our Time.
