Anime Review Summer Season

Summer Anime 2017 Part II

Summer anime continues and so far I’m already seeing a heavy trend with gays, sports, school clubs, relationships,  melodrama and school romance shit; with some shows having all of that combined. Fuck, so far not a whole lot new that i’m gong to watch from this list. Hopefully it will get better, and I know it will since New Game sequel is airing this season.

Youkai Apartment no Yuuga na Nichijou – This show had the name Nichijou in it so I hoped for something similar along the lines of a slice of life. What I got instead is not quite what I expected. So it’s like this; there is a boy who has no parents and has been living with his aunt/uncle for a few years now, boy is going to high school, looks forward to it because he gets to move out and get away from his cousin which hates him. Problem arise 1. just as he is to move in to the campus doors, it burns down. 2. he has nowhere else to go and doesn’t want to stay with his uncle and commute. So, what is the boy to do? Find a place on his own, but he has no money and can’t find shit. So being all depressed and shit in the park some ghost kid comes up to him and says “hey hey, I heard you need cheap housing, maybe you should checkout Scarborough instead of downtown Toronto” so with his newfound advice from the ghost boy he ends up finding a cheap ass apartment ghetto apartment. He greets all the residents and shit but soon finds out that it’s a youkai apartment filled with ghosts, monsters and other shit that are also tenants to the building along with a handful of strange humans like a monster researcher, exorcist girl and some other shit. The basic premise is good but the quality and pacing of the shit fall short and the characters are just not interesting. It doesn’t help that the main boy is kinda gay-ish with his senpai from middle school. Gayyyy. Probably for women but it’s shit, there is better stuff out there.

Aho Girl – This is mini show about a dumb air headed high-school girl that is super cheerful that loves eating bananas and her hijinks with her neighbor which constantly looks after her and shit. The main girl is good, she is funny and attractive and most important, super dumb, the main dude, her neighbor is as usual super stern and serious which of course offers plenty of joke moments. The flow of the animation and pacing of the show is on point being quick, fast and humorous in nature. No dead shit pixels here, solid mini show for laugh, will watch more for sure.

Tsurezure Children – Another mini-show which follows the evolving relations between 3 couples that kinda plays on the whole opposites attract thing. First couple is some boy and girl, scene starts off with the girl asking boy to meet with him after school to confess and shit. Shit ensues and they stand there for like half an hour with her saying nothing, boy is all like, fuck women, hurry up I’m getting cold since it’s snowing now. Girl is all like, eeeeeeee, I’m not ready to say anything yet, and notices the time, runs off to go home saying to him “Sorry about today, I’ll tell you tomorrow that I like you.” fully not even realizing that she just did it and boy is all like, “er…say what?…..you just did” end sequence. The rest of the mini show is similar with the remaining couples and their awkward behavior and personalities. I think this mini show is intended for straight couples in order to illustrate that people are weird and opposite from each other but can still like each other. Ye. I dunno about this one, the quality is decent but the subject matter is kinda dull. Probably not watch.

Nana Maru San Batsu – So little boy, do you like playing QuiZ Games? Nope? Then fuck you go home. Yeap, this is what this show is about. Another one to add to the list of “there’s an anime about this?” So we have a Shuta what whatever, he is a little boy going into middle/high whatever school.  There are clubs to be had and joined. Shuta is a wuss, he can’t play sports and shit and do anything artistic. He is a bookworm loner and has been the school librarian previous for like since ever and got triggered when starting his new school he didn’t get that role. On club day he got handed a pamphlet about the school quiz club, where you essential answer questions to a buzzer, like jeopardy. Boy notices some cute girl that ends up being class rep, of course, and assumes that she is smart and into books like him, of course. Some wuss time passes and we get to a segment where clubs are presenting and pitching in the auditorium to students to join the club. The president of the quiz club does some shit and holds a mock quiz contest to get people interested. The girl club pres volunteers but Shuta gets randomly selected and reluctantly goes anyways. Shit happens and he begins to enjoy Quiz battles since he did alright, the girl club pres begins to notice him and shit and wants them both the join the club and compete with other schools. The End. The show itself is not bad, the premise is not the most original but from what I saw it was mildly entertaining and the animation and character designs are passable, however, there are a couple of huge flaws which I cannot overlook. First of all, Shuta is a huge wuss that almost automatically disqualifies this show straight up, the only thing that could save this show is the girl club pres, her design is good but DAMNNNNN her voice is HORRIBLE, the voice actor doesn’t even sound like anime voice, it literally sounds like a normal girl just reading some shit causally half-ass, probably the same voice actor for the little sister from denpa kyoushi, which was also shit, same. Too many bad points, not watch.

Netsuzou TRap – NTR – You can probably derive straight off the bat what this show is kinda about, NTR; but may not necessarily be what you think. As a mini-show it doesn’t have much time to it but it’s essentially like this, there are 2 couples and they are friends, what essentially happens is that the two girls end up trying to “practice” with each other via kissing or such intimately in order to prep themselves to eventually having sexy times with their boyfriends. Cool cool, sure sure, but the problem arises when the two girls end up liking their practice more than the real thing with their boyfriends and come to the realization that they are gay lesbians or at the very least, bisexual. Wow, so twisted much lewd, much what. Poor dudes, your girlfriends are super gay for each other, yikes and you have no idea. There is a pink haired girl, she is kinda pure and is awakening to the gay but tries to deny it, there is her friend, purple haired girl, she is corrupt and lewd and fully knows that she is gay/bisexual already but is trying to bring pink haired girl to the dark side. The designs are ok and the animation decent, the premise is so scandalous however although in real life it’s probably more common than people would like to admit. It’s kinda odd to use the “NTR” label for a normal anime show and not porn but I suppose under these circumstances I guess does accurately represent the RUIN dat dees poor boys will have to accept. Will they also be gay? Who knows and I’m not gonna watch to find out, nope.

Dive!! – Alright then, so we’ve had Free, a swimming gay anime, yuri on ice, a figure skating gay anime, haiky,u a volleyball gay anime and now this, Dive!! a synchronized diving gay anime. Wow, add that one to the list as well I suppose. So we have Yuzuru  or whatever fag name he’s got, he has a girlfriend and shit since she confessed to him like a while back right, he didn’t know what to do and just said yes, I agree to go out with you and be your boyfriend. Problem is he doesn’t know who to be a boyfriend and go on dates with a girl, all he can think about is synchronized diving and his gay senpai that he’s looked up to since he was a kid, that just so happens to be in his local diving club. While the couple is walking to the diving club and the pool, girl starts talking about sweets and pancakes and Yuzuru TOTALLY zones her out and doesn’t give a shit about what she has to say, her dialog while talking slowly fades into the background with gayboy’s inner thoughts about his senpai and how much he admires him takes over the audio. When they get to the pool, his girlfriend asks him if he could watch, and the gayboy says embarrassingly no, giving no reason and runs off into the building. WHY SO GAY BRO? POOR GIRL. HOLY SHIT YOUR BOYFRIEND IS A FAGGOT. So we see Yuzuru inside chaning and shit and gets all happy when he sees his gay senpai and shit. SO GAYYYYY. WHY DIDN’T YOU GET HAPPY WHEN YOU WERE WITH YOUR GIRLFRIEND FAG? Anyways, diving happens and gay shit implied heavily. Story comes to something along the lines of “yea, you guys are shit but don’t you want to go to the 2020 Japan Olympics?” and thus the entire premise of the show with the boy coming to realization that he is a faggot. The End. Boring premise, only for women, super gay, poor girlfriend, so poor, so sad for her. Animation is decent and chars kinda shit even if bishonen. Nop.

Fate Apocrypha – Fate shit has been around for a long time and I got to hand it to type moon for somehow managing to keep this franchise alive or at least refreshed for more than a decade now since the first Visual novel came out. Honestly, I just can’t keep up or care enough to keep track with the so many spin-offs, alternative universes,  games universes, prequels, sequels, movies, re-imagining that this franchise goes through. Fuck. I like the original blue saber and rin but how many sabers do we really need? From my understanding this story most importantly does not involve archer faggot Emiya Shirou nor, Rin or blue saber but is something that takes place in the future or prior to the events of fate/stay night? Not entirely sure, whatever. So we have gangster tough shit guy, he’s cool, getting swole is built within him and is certainly no wuss boy. He’s been summoned by some mage association to help fight off a uprising within the mage society that wants to control the grail or something or change how the wars are done and it’s rules around it. I’m not entirely sure what they talk about but it’s full of convoluted lore and terminology that I don’t really give a shit about. Anyways, bad guys select their crew of masters and summon 5 servants to fight against the mage association and the mage association does the same, the tough as shit guy being one of them. Some rituals and spells are thrown around and shit gets summoned with main dude getting saber (of course) except this time it’s Red Saber which is Mordred, King Arthur’s bastard heir which ends up still being a girl. Red Saber is kinda rash and arrogant as expected from Mordred and lusts for power but has greatly upgraded bad-ass armor and long hair in a ponytail. So ye, all of this this is known as The Great Grail War according to legends and whatever. From my understanding, Red Saber is not really the main servant of this show but actually Jeanne D’arc which is from what I see and hear, the true main character, which has no Master and is summoned through weird means as “Ruler” a special class to oversee the Great grail war or whatever. I don’t even know anymore. Maybe the gangster guy and Saber Mordred are actually bad, since you know, Mordred is supposed to be a baddie? Playing Fate excella on the PS4 does not help me in anyway since it’s a totally separate universe than the “main” fate world which is funny since the main saber in that game is also a “Red Saber” except being Nero-Claudius, a Roman emperor. Why red again guys? Another saber? You know, there are other classes in Fate shit, you could have FULLY made a main servant being a NINJA ASSASSIN GIRL or even SAMURAI SABER GIRL with black hair? Why the overwhelming focus on blonde haired aryan race girls? I don’t know, this shit is done by UFOtable so their animation and character designs are on point so ye, for fans yes watch, for me, can’t watch this anymore, don’t understand shit.

Made in Abyss – This is good shit. So it’s like this; in some fantasy-like alternate world humans have discovered “The Abyss” a giant crater island in the middle of the ocean which noone knows how deep it goes but is filled with relics from an ancient civilization, unknown technological devices, vicious and dangerous magical creatures and beautiful cavernous/mountainous landscapes filled with strange trees and plant-life, it’s literally like going into another world. This resulted in many travelers and adventurers wanting to come visit and explore the abyss and over time an entire city developed on top of the island crater as a result of the constant flow of people wanting to buy and sell relics. The main character is a blond little girl with glasses named Riko and her friends who are in a school together designed to train and educate future explorers which apparently has become something of a skilled trade which is regulated and ranked from experience level based on the color of the whistle they wear or carry which also regulates how deep they are allowed to go within the abyss, something of a license or certification of ability. The show itself opens up with the main girl Riko and her friend exploring for relics and shit but are attacked by a giant flying worm thing and are almost killed until some robot boy comes and saves them with a laser blast or something from his hand. The robot boy falls asleep but the girl decides to time him back to the surface since he’s technically a  “relic” after all. Some hijinks ensues when they manage to get the robot boy alive again and keep hidden away from the teachers at school. The next day the Riko introduces the robot boy to the abyss and the volcano island that they are on, essentially what I just said before. End episode. When I first saw the opening minutes of this show the art felt very familiar, like I have seen it before but I am quite sure. I looked it up and now I realize why, this shit is based of a web manga by Akihito Tsukushi, a artist that I have known about for a very long time, perhaps over 15 years since discovering his artwork. Akihito Tsukushi is known for extremely detailed fantasy landscapes and scenery artwork and very round simple like character designs which at one point I had used some of his art as my desktop wallpaper in the past. Yes it makes sense now for me and I suppose that explains why the environments and background are so rich in detail for this show, I suppose you can say it’s the main draw since it’s Akihito Tsukushi’s shit. The quality of production and animation are very good and it’s concept very original and interesting, while some may not dig the very simple kiddie show like character designs, I think it works well since it contrast the detailed environments perfectly. Filled with a colorful youthful adventurous spirit and most importantly, the main character not being a faggot boy but a hype cute girl makes this show a must watch for me. Hope it turns out well.

Vatican Kiseki Chousakan – Some bullshit boring ass show about a pair of priests sent from the Vatican to investigate claims of miracles around the world and shit and to protect the Catholic church’s holiness or something. Just starting out watching this show was shit, all I see was some demonic ritual being performed and some people being killed as sacrafied or something, then we go into all priest mode trying to introduce the main priest guys, kinda gay, which is ironic I think. So anyways pope-ing shit happens and the priests go talk to a cardinal and get briefed on their mission to investigate a claim of a virgin birth in the USA, cause Jesus II is not allowed and all that shit right. They get there, talk to the church/school place and a fuckload of characters are introduced and shown super fast with just titles showing their name/title on the screen. I hate that shit, lazy. So they go meet the alleged Virgin Mary II, a beautiful blonde nun girl and do their best to get to the bottom of this claim, doing some science and tests on her and logic shit, saying that she was only a nun for like 3 months and could totally have been a whore before then where she had sex and got hymen reconstruction or something, they not sure. All while this is going on, the priests sense something odd about the people at this church, as if they have something to hide. Some shit happens at night and they discover a priest at the place killed in what appears to be the demonic ritual shown at the beginning of the shit. End episode. Well, the first thing I’d have to say about this shit is that it’s visually very dark and gray/brown color tone, might aswell make the shit monochromatic at that point and it’s pacing is extremely fast-paced to a fault, shit feels like the rush you would get from episode 12 of an anime trying to finish with shit just happening all at once but it’s not the case here, names and order of events are just a clusterfuck of confusing and disorganization. Add boring nature inheritly with 2 gay-ish priest and this is a easy nope, shit show. Nope.

More to come…hope things get better…
