And so the first batch of new anime for 2018 has rolled on in as so far from my initial impressions, it seems this batch is pretty damn good, at least for the shows that I like. Lots of slice of life, cute moe stuff, no mecha, little fantasy, no idol shit, just lots of pure funny slice of life goodness. Aweeee yeaaaa, so let’s take a look what we have so far.
Sora yori mo Tooi Basho – Overall a shit show with mild adventure and mild gay yuri themes. Opening scene is some girl who is dreaming and or reflecting upon her life, sees her childhood or something looking at a puddle or whatever. Fast forward to modern times and she wakes up from her dream of her childhood. She is pretty ugly and shit looking. Gets told by mom that she is late for school and the likes, she rushes. First day of school, new school riding dem trains and the like. She sees some girl and she accidentally drops an envelope, main girls opens it and it’s a ton of cash, something like a million yen and is all like, oh shit, I gotta give this back to the girl at school. Of course the girl is very cold and somewhat unapproachable but she finds her crying in the bathroom, no doubt because she lost her money. Main girl gives it back to rich girl and they are happy. The money, the girls says is because she has been working and saving money in order to go on an Antarctica exploration journey in order to find her lost (probably dead) parents who were scientist and went missing. Of course main girl is all like, aw yea this is my chance to make friends AND live up my dream to have dreams, so I’m going to bandwagon on your dream to go to Antarctica too, thus the premise of the show. The opening sequence you see the girls and a bunch of other girls in snow place which I can only assume is Antarctica, so yea, guess they make it and have fun. Whatever, this show is kinda slow moving and the character designs are pretty butt ugly, add some mild yuri gay and this is not really my thing.
Ramen Daisuki Koizumi-san – This should be a good show, maybe even great if they play it out right. So basically the name of this show is “Ms-Koizumi likes ramen” so cool cool, we already know that this show is about ramen, the most Japanese of Japanese dishes other than sushi and fried shit or meat on sticks. Koizumi is the new transfer student at the local high school, she is a beautiful cute girl with long blonde hair and red eyes (vampire much?) but is very quiet and doesn’t really give a shit about people or even interacting with anyone. Cue questionable “main” girl, with short blue hair is very hype and at first sight is super gay for koizumi and tries her best to interact and be friends with her too much failure and comedic merit. Because she is that kind of person, blue haired girl ends up being a stalker and follows her blonde princess around town in secret. She sees her lining up to a popular ramen store and lines up behind her as well, trying her best to make small talk to much failure. When they get in blue girl just has whatever koizumi has, same order and everything. So they eat, koizumi becomes alive and gets a mild food porn moment eating extremely fast with a satisfying face. Blue haired girl is like, wuttttt theeeee, a cute girl like her eats so fast, fukkkkkkk. End the first segment. The next segment is similar with koizumi eating ramen from the school cafeteria and is kinda critical and shit with stalker blue girl by her side. From what I gather every episode will loosely focus on koizumi eating ramen at varying places with different girls from her class and school, forming some kind of bond or whatever. Yea. Opening is nice. This is a good show. The character designs are attractive and the pacing is ok. The concept in good but I feel that they need to be a bit more extreme in hyperbole when eating ramen; yea this ramen tastes good, but have you expressed how good it really it? Overall good shit, watch for sure.
Yuru Camp – This is an excellent slice of like show all about camping outdoors in the fall and in winter. Awwww yeaaaaa, none of that summer bullshit camping, I’m talking about WINTER CAMPING. So anyways the show starts off with some purple haired girl biking up a hill with all the camping gear. She goes through all the necessary steps to register and book her site. She sets up camp and boils water, she opens up a book and starts reading but then it gets cold and decides to gather firewood to make a fire. She does so and takes some photos of the landscape to send to her friend via phone. Later in the evening she goes to the washroom at the camp register area and she finds some pink haired girl lost and alone, freaking out and shit. Apparently she just moved in to the area and got lost or something and can’t find her way back to town. Of course blue haired girl invites her to her campsite to stay. They eat curry cup ramen noodles and have a good time, then pink girl remembers her sister’s phone number and calls. Her big sister comes in a car and picks her up and gives her shit; they say farewell and exchange numbers and whatever. Next day or some time later they go to school and they end up going to the same school now. The opening shows that there is actually a school camping club with other girls so yea, that is where this show is heading. Very very chill relaxing and educational show about outdoor living and camping shit. The character designs are good, moe style and good animation and expressions. Decent funny and excellent background music. Good shit. Will watch for sure.
Hataraku Onii-san! – Opening sequence has some cat string puppets doing some stupid shit, after it goes into the actual show and its back to 2d flash level animations again with some talking cats working delivering packages and shit for amazon or whatever. Wow. End of episode. Not what I had in mind at all from this mini show, especially not from the name of this title at all. Shit but yea, whatever. Bad.
Toji no Miko – This show has great potential but whether or not it will reach that height or bomb badly we will have to see. Most anime these days is based on some shit, game, manga, light novel whatever. This is an original anime about a bunch of highschool girls who are technically shrine maidens but are trained in magical katana sword fighting in order to protect against monster demon shit that occasionally appears in the city or whatnot. Thus the name of this show, “Katana Maidens”, which I will probably just shorten to “Sword Girls”. The simplest way I can kinda sum up this show is kancolle girls with swords in modern times with some magic. Yea, that’s pretty good I guess, considering all of the girls are designed by GOD kancolle boat designer Shizuma Yoshinori. Without a doubt these are his character designs, the main girl is pretty much beaver boat, Yukikaze and all of the other ones equally share similar traits seen in his character designs, another easy to spot one is the blonde big boob girl who is pretty much Iowa. Since there are multiple schools in this show, there is an opportunity to design different uniforms, lest to say, some elements of Yamato and the Akizuki class clothing designs can be seen. The first episode moves kind of slow which makes sense because they need to try and explain the world, and its mechanics and whatnot. All of the girls are not really formally introduced yet other than main beaver girl and black haired girl but you see them do some mock battle or tournament. This show could be good, but it could be bad, seeing as it’s a pure original show, anything could happen but seeing as how GOD Shizuma Yoshinori designed the girls, I kinda feel obligated to watch to the end. Great designs, good concept hopefully it turns out good.
Grancrest Senki – Some crazy ass crack magic fantasy show about nothing. Without getting too much into detail about the world that was explained to me, this show rolls like like. There are two kingdoms as war, but sought to make peace through arranged marriage. But that failed because some demon thing came and ruined the wedding between prince and princess of the two nations, killing their kings in the process. Still at war because of tragedy. At the heart of this story is another saber look-alike blonde girl who is a mage that tried to stop the killing of the kings at the wedding. Fast forward a bit and saber clone is traveling to serve some lord or whatever, because in this world mages have to form a pact or contract with lords or something to serve under in order to get pro or whatever. Magic everywhere and the likes. She gets ambushed on her way by some rival kingdom and some green haired fag boy appears and saves her with his magical shield thing, not that she needed his help anyways. The boy is so shit but has potential so saber clone changes her mind and decides to make a pact with this boy instead of a lord because yea whatever anime. They then take over the bandit’s bad guy town and decide they and want to conquer more. The End. Yea, this show is just too baity for me, the design on saber clone is ok but her clothing design choices are questionable, like a floating solid-like cape around her? it just looks weird. Quality is below average. Forgettable character designs, concept and premise, gay boy. Bad show, nope.
Ito Junji Collection – Some crack ass bullshit horror stories about nothing. At first I thought that this was supposed to be a funny show because the “main” boy looked like a retarded creeper that has a personality disorder, anxiety and ADD. Just a bad boy all together, should be killed. But anyways the majority of this show is just the boy doing stupid shit like playing scary pranks or getting revenge at schoolmate because he is that petty and retarded. Some more shit happens but he always gets told and owned at the end. The next mini segment was about some girl who was slowly turning into a doll and her parents feeling sad. They say that once a child has fully turned into a doll, you must burn them and put them to rest. Of course the girl is fully turned and they don’t burn her, after a few days they regret it as their daughter doll slowly morphs into some creepy looking skeletal worm monster, hardly recognizable as a human. So nasty and creepy. Yea, shit show, bad everything. Why even bother making this shit if it’s supposed to be horror. Remember, I laughed at the boy.
Sanrio Danshi – This is a very unique show about a bunch of very gay boys who happen to like mascots from Sanrio, aka Hello Kitty and it’s other line of cute characters and it’s goods, such as the yellow dog Pompompurin. Yea, that’s what this show is about I guess. The main boy is all like, man I really love Pompompurin, I was given a plush toy of that yellow bitch when I was a kid by my grandmother, and I loved it. Then I got bullied because people said I was gay for playing with a cute dog plush. Then I discarded it back to my grandmother in angst. Then my grandmother died, then i felt sad and felt like a bad guy. However, our times passes and our main boy eventually meets a bunch of other bishonen dudes at high school who also likes sanrio stuff and they become great friends, doing many a gay together. Yea, that’s what this show is about. I got to hand it to Sanrio, they know their target audience very well. The character designs are suitable. The concept is very unique. I know this is for women but I dunno, maybe I will watch this a bit more, we’ll see. Decent quality, interesting concept.
Citrus – This is a very gay yuri show, very very gay yuri show with extremely attractive and well designed girls. So it’s like this, our main girl here is a orange haired kinda fashionable-hip gal with full on makup and the like. She is moving to a new school because her mom got married to some new dude that she’s never met or whatever sure sure. On her first day she goes to a new all girl school in her usual clothing and just walking there on her way she gets stopped by the student council president girl, of course your usual black long haired type for not wearing the school uniform and obeying the regulations on make-up hair and etc. They of course clash and argue to mild comedic effect. Later in the day she sees student council president in secret kissing a teacher or something, runs away because wow, your like that huh student pres (why is there male teachers at an all girl school?). Time passes and our main girl survives the first day of school, everybody thinks she is a troublemaker aw man. Goes home to her just moved in apartment and sees her mom, talk and such and then her mom tells her that the man she married has a daughter, you have a sister now. Girl is like what the fuck, you never told me this and of course as she was saying this student coucil president walks in to the apartment, wow wow surprize surprize, your new sister is the student council president. Shock by main girl, indifference from student pres. They eat dinner. Go to their shared bedroom, main girl tries to talk to her about spaces and such but for some reason, her new sister comes on to her, kissing her and forcing her down. Wow wow, so your super gay huh student pres? Main girl is shocked and sister pres just walks away. Ok, so that’s how this show is going to be huh, that sister pres comes down harrdd aggressive on main girl it’s really something. The character designs of the two main girls are very very attractive, I can see no faults in the designs or the animation, which is very good. Good pacing and intense tone, full of drama and girl feels I suppose. For what it is, it’s probably one of the best Yuri gay shows for women that I have ever seen. I probably won’t watch it but yea, it has it’s own niche.
Pop Team Epic – The opening of this show starts off with your usual gay boy with his parents leaving for an extended period of time, leaving the boy to fend for himself. As his parents leave, they tell him to watch and be nice to some girls name, dude is all like, whatttttttt, who’s that. Cue standard harem comedy slice of life opening which can derive the audience that the girl is a secret idol or whatever harem fest. Yea yea sure sure.

HEADFAKKKKKKEEEEEEEEE
Show cuts off and you see the real title of the show, Pop Team Epic, and two very super deformed and chibi looking girls just standing and punching each other saying stupid shit, then ends the segment and on to the next. This show is very weird and strange, it’s basically a pop cultural mix and mash up between what you get if you combine, south park, nico nico douga, japanese memes, Saturday night live, regular show and robot chicken. Yea, I know. Based off a 4-koma manga this first episode is very weird indeed. The show itself is duplicated, 12 minutes in it restarts with the only thing being changed is the voice actors. The first version has 2 extremely MAINLY voices, probably famous male voice actors and the second version has what I can assume are the regular voices of the show, still funny but different. The show has a bit of audio issues, the voices are not loud enough and it’s hard to hear amidst the background music but yea, hopefully that’s just crunchy roll fucking things up. Like to put into perspective how meta this shit is , there is a segment where some shadowy villains are talking about some shit and the main bad-dude is spinning a spinner..whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. I also heard that their fake opening sequence, the one with the magical idol girl is so meta it might be made into a real anime, shittttt. Ok, I watch this show.
