Anime Review Winter Season

Winter Anime 2018 Part II

Next round of shows coming in. Honestly I am so far pretty slow with writing my shit reviews this year, maybe because I’m watching Trump shit everyday and reading that trump book so I don’t have as much time or urgency but yea. At the time of this writing I have pretty much watched all of this new season’s shit and so far it’s good shit indeed, at least for me.

Slow Start – A really good textbook example of a moe slice of life show comedy. So basically we have a new girl who has just going to start her first day of highschool and is nervous obviously. Upon entering the halls she meets a cast of very interesting cute girls which will be become her friends no doubt and they go into their standard slice of life banter and good shit. They all do introductions as shit and you get to hear the names of all of her soon to be friends with the usual archtypes such as hype flat twin tails girl, short quiet lazy girl and “normal” girl with boobs. Main girl has pink short hair and is just typical nervous heroine that has an embarrassing secret. Seeing as the name of this show is Slow Start I figured it was called that because all of the girls look really underdeveloped and short/flat with the exception of “normal” girl which is why they are having “slow start” since they did talk about height and looking like elementary schoolers in comical fashion. I happen to watched the second episode already and I was partly off, the “Slow Start” could be used as a blanket description of all the girls but really it’s only talking about our main pink girl because it turns out her secret is that she is actually a year older than everyone else because she missed last year’s school entrance exam and was a hikkomori for a year, thus why she transferred to a new school far away to to live with her big boob cheerful cousin, so that nobody would know about her past. Plus she’s funny dumb too. Jokes. Character designs very moe and cute colorful. Good concept, good pacing, characters. Good shit, watch for sure.

Mitsuboshi Colors – This show seemed to be promising as a slice of life comedy but it kind of falls flat on it’s face for various reason. So it’s like this, we have 3 “cute” elementary girls in the park or something. They have made something like a secret clubhouse and they hang out and do stupid funny shit, typical kid stuff. The three girls kinda correspond with the 3 basic primary colors, red, blue and yellow and have similarly matching personalities, red girl is timid but pure good, blue girl is cool but doesn’t give a shit, buried in her DS game and yellow is hype energetic but dumb. So basically kinda like idolmaster Cinderella girls and every other shit ever in existence that involve colors, yea I know. They don’t go to school (summer?) and are in casual clothing, matching their “colors” to a tee. To format of the show is that they do stupid shit and tease the local police guard near the park with pranks and shit and the police guy just toys with them or goes along with it. There are a few other characters like a shop keeper guy who is kinda buff with sunglasses and some other women in town too. This sounds good on paper but the show suffers horrendous pacing issues and weak jokes and gags. It’s just not funny to me, it’s just very dry. Maybe because the girls don’t ever do faces or super deformed states, they are mainly rendered just themselves. Heh. The character designs are kinda shit too, basic as hell and the girls not that likeable either or cute in my opinion either. There are better shows than this.

Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card – Alright then, I admit that I have no idea about this but I watched it anyways because what the hell. I have not watched Card Captors before, even in my youth so I just wanted to check out why this franchise is still so loved and praised as one of the best magical girl shows ever. So anyways, lots of shit happened in the first series which I don’t know about, tons of characters are shown with I do not really know about. Whatever. Our main girl, Sakura, is pretty pure and just a good girl all around with no particular bad character traits whatsoever, the very best mary sue that you can possibly think of for her age. If anything, it’s that she’s a bit dumb? whatever still in line with sailor moon kind of dumb so that’s cool. So anyways Sakura is moving on up, starting middle school now and is slightly older bigger? Can’t really say can’t see older shit. But in any case some magic shit happens and she is forced to go do her magical girl thing again because her magical pet monkey or whatever says it’s time again for battle. So some dream magical shit happens in her sleep and she gets new powers, the power of the “Clear Card” because all of her old cards have become useless or whatever. Gotta battle soon I guess and nice chance to get new OP clothes. Hell yea. I don’t know. Decent shit all round. I may end up watching this because I feel like a magical girl show show but who knows. We’ll see.

Gakuen Babysitters – So we have a gay boy and his boy, or rather his gay little baby brother, maybe like 2-3? Not sure but whatever, their parents are dead. Their bodies were never found after the plane crash at sea so yea, that’s the back story for these guy’s existence. Gay boy moving to new school to dorm because some old women offered them to stay with her, since she is the headmaster and feels sorry for being orphans and all. When they meet the old women she looks crazy shit, like huge ass afro and square wrinkly face. Shit jokes. Anyways she says the condition for them to stay is that the big brother has to join the afterschool babysitting club and look after little kids which are the kids of some of the teachers, because in this world, they have a afterschool daycare program. Sure. So they show little kids interacting with other little kids and our main baby is super quiet and weak, shy, don’t say much, on line with what Forrest Gump the Kid would behave like if he was that little. The cast of little are mixed, we have Little Forrest, as mentioned previously but we also have Fat Kid from “I killed your Dad”, two blonde cryboy twins/gay, a mini Yohanne from Love Live Sunshine with twin tails that carries a plush giraffe and a real baby girl, that is just like a thing, don’t say much. So anyways the boy has to take care of all these babies, of course he gets help with the hired babysitter they also employ but dude just sleeps does nothing. The premise of the show is fairly unique and the pacing is good so we’ll see. The character designs are on point gay, catered for women but could be unisex for sure. I’m pretty sure this shit was authored by a women but yea, of course. Might watch more but we’ll see, there’s alot of good shit this season in line with my tastes.

Kokkoku – Some magical time stop try hard show that tries way too hard to get serious and real that it could work as a movie but doesn’t so I don’t know why. So we have a girl, she just finished college/university and is applying to jobs and doing interviews, she is failing at it after applying to hundreds. Sad/frustrated. So anyways we meet her family, all pretty much failures except her grandpa who is retired. Dad is unemployed, laid off work, big brother is unemployed laid off/never had a job semi-hikkomori, mother is dead, her nephew is living with them, a little boy because her aunt is dead. Yea, pretty shit here. So main girl is like the last hope to be the bread maker and make money for the family. One day she asks her brother to pick up the nephew from school and he does, on the way back he is beat up and both are kidnapped away in a van. The kidnappers then call the family home, asking for random or else the two are dead, no police or dead. Main girl is like oh no what are we going to do, same with dad; grandpa is all like chill the fuck out and follow me. They follow him into some room and he brings out some magical stone, places it on table and tells them to put a hand on it. Says some magical shit and stone glows. Tada, time has stopped, or at least it seems so as he explains that their family/clan had this power to go into another dimension or something where time is stopped. So yea, they go find the location of the criminals and try to get their family back. However, some shit happens and some other people are also active in the time stop world and they fight and get their shit ruined, plans fail. Some monster appears and yea, shit happens. The premise of this show is interesting, essentially DIO BRANDO DA WORLD and fighting but yea it has problems. Shit moves wayy so slow and the characters, all butt ugly except for the main girl, which even then, is not that great. Character designer is famous and has done lots of shit before but here because the color pallet is so dull, forgettable. Yea, nice try but nope.

Micchiri Neko – Mini show about some crazy ass shit cats that I have no idea about. Style is seizure and flat. Nawwwman, nope. Shit.

Ryuuou no Oshigoto! – This is a good show about cute girl shogi battle, very similar to Saki and similar cute girl moe sports/competition shows. Yea, so we have our main boy, he is a dude that not unike Kiriyama from “I killed your dad”, is a professional shogi player in highschool but because he is so pro, quit school to focus on shogi. So pro, he is already the “champion” of his league or something like that in the region, so unlike Kiriyama, boy can win and has indeed already won. One day while heading back to his apartment after an official match he finds a elementary girl waiting for him inside of his apartment. Dude is obviously shocked, what the hell bitch, how did you get in? It’s never explained how she got in, maybe the door was opened? Whatever, in either case the girl wants him to be his master/teacher of shogi because apparently a year ago he met this girl before when he became champion and inspired her to play the game and wants to get gud. So they play some shogi to test her skills, our main boy puts on his glasses and automatically he is not so bad looking and doesn’t suffer main fag boy syndrome as much. They play hard and turns out she is pretty damn good strong, boy is impressed, still owns her but yea, he accepts her request and she becomes her student. The two continue and meet a bunch of other characters, such as his “sister” which is a pretty high school girl but not really her sister who is also a pro player, just in terms of them sharing teh same master. Overall this show is great, the main girl in very cute and hype, nice hat, clothes and attitude, very fidgety which is cool and there is considerably comedy/ moe jokes considering that our main boy’s student is a elementary school girl and because of that lots of  awkward loli denial moments from everyone around him. Probably doesn’t help that from what I see in the intro main girl gets a whole bunch of other young friends and also end up idolizing our main boy. Jokes. Character designs is great, all cute girls and in the nature of Saki, all have unique personalities and are very colorful. Lots of mind battles are going to happen so yea, good shit. Watch for sure.

Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san – 90% of this show is me trying to figure out if this shit is 3D cg or not. So it’s like this, the basic premise of this shit is simple, we have satoshi or whatever, he is a boy, sitting in the typical main guy chair in his class. Back row, right next to the window seat. Right beside him on the right is a girl, Takagi-san. She likes him but always teases him doing pranks and shit to headfake him into thinking that she likes him, which she does, but she makes it so that it was just a joke to make our boy keep on second guessing if she really likes him or not. It’s very very juvenile in the sense of like maybe a boy making fun of a girl and picking on her in school because she likes her and or vice versa. I suppose Takagi is very light tsundere playful I guess, not sure what this archtype she falls under but yea you get the idea.  The entire show is like this, mini segments of our boy getting played by Takagi because she likes him and trying to force him to admit that he likes her too and the like because she is a women and all, yea whatever. So like I said, I honestly paid very little attention to the content of what was said in this show, I was just trying to figure out if this shit was 3d or not because holy shit they are so smooth and crisp lines, so sharp and crunchy, like fried chicken, shit. I still am not sure and unable to admit that this could possibly be just really really clean and smooth 2d, I just can’t. It’s just too smooth, especially the hand motions and close ups. The character designs are pretty basic and simple out of proportions, our main girl, Takagi has one of the biggest FIVE HEADS (bigger than forehead) I have ever seen for this kind of show with it’s designs with some scenes appearing that her entire head is as big as her upper body, like what the fuck, super slim too. The main problem I have with this show is pacing, it just moves too slow for me and the gags/teasing is just kinda cringe to me, since it’s so obvious that the girl likes him and our boy is too gay to admit that he likes her too. I suppose this is the flavor of youth/young love but i dunno, feels like bullshit to me as an old man. People think this show is the shit, which I am sure has it’s merits, but I dunno, I don’t see myself watching anymore of this unless some revelation comes around and says I need to watch it. Heh.

Kaijuu Girls S2 – Awww yeaa, a great mini show returns with Kaijuu girls S2. The show picks up after the first season and it’s all good. Cute little monster girls from ultraman doing their thing to be protectors of the city from shadows or whatever. A whole next cast of other girls are going to be introduced along with all the original monster girls so shits good. Cute excellent designs, excellent premise, chill and fun storytelling. Good shit all round. Watch fore sure.

Overlord II – Oh boy, so this motherfucker has finally come around huh. 2015’s Overlord finally has a sequel, holy shit has it been that long already? 3 years? Fuck man, time passes so quickly. But anyways this show pretty much picks up right up after the first season for better or worse. I honestly wouldn’t have minded if they did a little recap but nope, you get none of that shit. You literally only get to see our boy lord momonga/einsougow or whatever like halfway through the episode because the first half is talking about what the hell everybody else in his crew are currently doing which honestly can be summed up as, preparing to conquer shit and the fight. Building time I suppose. They show albedo being yandere a bit for our boy momonga and yea, that’s nice. Good shit, consistent quality to the original so far. Lots of drama, TONS of useless world building backstory of people that may or may not be killed in the next episode or arc, yea, this shit is Overlord. I watched episode 2 of this shit and honestly the entire thing was about a tribe of lizardmen and their internal socio-economic-political problems and how to resolve an impending problem of doom which may or may not involve either our boy momonga killing all of them or saving them. We will see. Good shit, long and slow but hopefully it will be worth it. Base same character designs. One thing I must say however is that the introduction sequence is totally shit, horrible song and imagery, bad but ah-well. Watch fore sure.

Dame x Prince Anime Caravan – Gay women time the anime. Well now, it’s been awhile since I reviewed a gay anime for women that did not involve male idols but this time we got the second best thing, princes! Based off a game from what I read, it’s basically like this. Our main girl is a diplomat or princess or whatever, she is in the middle of two warring countries but they want to make peace because war is bad and people die. One country is all about war and military while the other one is all holy and priest-like, while the main girl’s small country is neutral normal. Yea you see where this is going. So basically princess girl goes around and meets the two countries and their princes to form a peace treaty or whatever but yea, instead she is assaulted by a bunch of gay. So all the guys are kinda ok for gay standards but still bad overall. The premise i’m guessing is that all the kingdoms want to one up each other and try to court/marry our main girl for political reasons but end up liking her for real and such. Despite it’s serious description, the tone of the show is very lighthearted and chill with decent amounts of gay funny comedic inner thoughts and mild hyperbole. I’m sure there is a real story to be told here but i’m not really looking so yea. Good for what is is, but yea, nope for me.

More to come…
