Another boat event has come and another boat event has ended. All in all I did exactly what I set out to do, that is clear all maps, get all the reward boat prizes and even farm some nice boats that I wasn’t able to get in the past. In terms of the actual event itself…well, it’s brought this flash game to new levels of RNG bullshit mechanics. So this thing was 7 maps right, cool cool, it’s a big event so ya everybody was expecting that; what everyone wasn’t expecting however was all the historical ship locking that needed get to pass even the first 3 maps. For some reason, whether it was by design or by mistake, even on casual there was a map that you could not pass unless you use a fleet comp with a certain number of nishimura fleet members and or have not been used in any previous maps before, I think it was E3 or E4? Can’t remember. Either way, this was critical to travel the historical path to beat a sub-boss node in order to unlock the real boss. If you couldn’t get that path and beat the sub-boss, it was impossible to clear that shit because the real boss would never open up. Bullshit. Another complaint that I have is that in terms of story and historical fare this was basically doing part of the last event, over again, the battle of Leyte gulf, except with much less fanfare and focus on the fusou sisters and shigure. Fucking first 4-5 maps was basically the same thing as Fall Event 2018 except different and harder than the last event. So that’s a stupid decision. If they wanted to do a famous battle, then do it all at once, not just repeat part of it again, it just seems so half assed and lazy. They also added a new night battle mechanics for bosses called “Friend Fleets” and as it sounds you randomly could get some historical fleets doing some night battle cut-in before you do your night battle, which helps I suppose. All are themed such as “Foreign Fleet”, “EU fleet”, “Nishimura Fleet”, “Kurita Fleet” and other accurate squad comps like div5 destroyers or other shit like that. Cool cool, that’s nice and all but the problem with this is that some of the friend fleets are vastly superior than others and it allows the developers to artificially increase the difficulty of the boss with the excuse of like “Oh, that friend fleet with Yamato and Mushashi will appear and do huge damage, gotta make sure the boss HP is extra large with high defense to balance it just to make sure” and shit like that. The result is that for final kills you end up REQUIRING THE BEST FRIEND FLEET to randomly appear at pre-night battle to do shelling damage and even have a chance to kill. This was the case for E7 Last Dance, if you didn’t get the Yamato fleet or EU Fleet to appear that has Iowa and warspite then your chances of killing the boss was significantly less. If you had some of the best boats in your real fleet, then nope, that associated fleet won’t appear for you because well you are using that boat already. Like if I had Yamato in my combined fleet, the Yamato fleet would never appear for me as a Friend Fleet. Add the fact that unless you have x3 of one of those fancy seaplanes that extend your range your Air land bases could not reach the boss nodes, fucking useless. I remember when they first introduced the Air land bases system and shit was OP, now it’s been nerfed so bad over time it’s become a tool almost for exclusive use for pre-boss nodes, the developers really really don’t want you to use that shit for boss node and go out of their way to put restrictions like strict range requirements to fuck you up. Fuck man, they why even bother making it then? However, with all is said and done, this event was cleared to my satisfaction nevertheless. Below are the boats that are the Heroes of our Time for Winter 2018 boat event.
10. Zuihou
Honestly I never used Zuihou much until this event, I don’t mind carriers but I really don’t like light carriers, worthless pieces of weak shit. However, this event had her listed in several historical fleet comps so yea, she was used and actually did pretty good and didn’t fail me. Good job. Some people really like Zuihou but I don’t get it, why like the flat shrine maiden boat? There is already the kongo sisters to fill that role and they all have fairly big boobs. I guess if you like Ryoujou it’s the same thing heh.
9. Mushashi
Oh shit, in this event Musashi played a very important historical role, much like last event cause yea, part of it was being repeated again. I should technically also put in the fusou sisters in here as well but there’s not much good art of them these days so yea whatever. That’s not to say that there isn’t any for Mushashi, I just wanted to showcase her Kai2 design, which is very different from her original design and takes a bit of inspiration from Yamato except with more jacket/cape I suppose. I’m a bit sad that she lost her bandage boob appeal but yea, progress I suppose. I wonder if/when Yamato will get Kai2? Does that mean she will get bandages? Who knows but looking forward to it.
8. Asashio
Asashio has been my go to destroyer with opening anti-sub attack for a few events now and I see no reason to change so otherwise, plus she’s cute. Over time I’ve taken more to liking her design and her student council president type loli character. It seems kancolle fans also agree with me since there seems to be a decent fanbase for Asashio, which is kinda strange for a relatively simple design. I guess it’s the personality/voice/thigh thighs loli appeal that does it I guess.
7. Akizuki
Anti-AIRRRRRRRRRR goddess OG. You need destroyer with AA-cut in? Akizuki and her sisters will do the job. FUKKKKK I still don’t have Teruzuki, she wasn’t droppable from any of the maps this event. Ah man, hope I can complete my duck collection. Anyways she did her shit and that’s good.
6. Maya
Well here she is again, CA anti-air goddess Maya. She did more this time than Akizui or her sister’s this event cause she also appeared in more historical fleets. That is not to say that I didn’t use the ducks, I actually used ALL that I had since with the exception of newly acquired duck Suzutsuki from last event, all were also histroical in some maps. So yea. Anyways this picture of Maya kinda reminds me of the Miku from Idolmaster Cinderella Girls, the cat girl with big boobs and fang teeth. Hmmm. Maybe I should buy a figure of her.
5. Suzuya
Here she is again, our favorite virgin slut CAV Suzuya. She was used in almost every map I think cause shit man, she’s good and counted as a historical in most maps as well. Probably used her more than I should have because of the slightly more lax rules on easy mode but yea, she’s just too good. Can equip seaplane bomber? You In. I also recently kai2 Kumano too and will probably keep her CAV as well but man I hate her shrill voice and laugh but stats are just to good to ignore.
4. Haruna
Haruna is daijobu. So is Kongo but I was too lazy to find an interesting pic with both even though the probability of both appearing in a pic is like super high, they sisters after all. So yea, Kongo and Haruna were also historical this event but I opted for Haruna more when I was given the choice cause of her guns were more accurate and shit. I love battleships. What’s better than Nao Touyama battleships? One that is daijobu. I think this design is from that time when some clothing department store or fashion brand had a collaboration and designed some boat girls in casual clothes, it was nice.
3. Iowa
USA USA USA. FUCK YEA. America is the shit. In the game that is but yea. Ignoring all socioeconomic/political problems in America today, Iowa is still one of the strongest battleships in the game. I said it before and I’d say it again that it was kinda bullshit how she is classified as a fast battleship but with the power rivaling that of Yamato and Nagato but yea, it’s America so whatever. Iowa was not a historical for anything on this event, I just used her cause fuck it, she’s just so OP. USA USA USA.
2. Shigure
One of the heroes of the last event makes her appearance again cause well, fucking event is basically repeated again from last time so all of the Nishimura, Kurita fleets are MVPS again this time, even in the later maps, which means Shigure is pretty useful once again. She did alot of damage to all maps where I used her, since historical requirements and yea, torpedo cut in. Good shit. There was recently a fad/trend going on before the event/while the event was running where artists for some reason were drawing all the boat girls in bunny suits so yea, Shigure gets that treatment too. I like bunny girls, it’s really sexy, much more in general compared to swimsuits, with the exception if it’s a micro bikini, then they are about even depending on girl. Good girl Shigure.1.
1. Yukikaze
Whoa whoa whoa, what the fuck is this? Beaver Yukikaze is the top hero of our time? Why? Well for the same reason as Shigure I suppose except she was the one that delivered the final blow to clearing E7. Fucking that map, I think I ran that shit in total 30 times or so, and 15-20 or so times were failed Last dance attempts. FUKKK. Ahwell it’s a done deal and Yukikaze is the hero this time around. But besides delivering the final E7 boss, I used her just as frequently as Shigure so ya, luck works I guess in shit. This was also my opportunity to find artwork of the obvious, how the beaver looks very very similar to the main girl in the original anime, Sword Maiden Girls with character designs by Lord Yoshinari except the girl on the left is better than Beaver but yea, whatever. Congrats Yukikaze, you are the best Beaver in all of Canada and hero of our time for Winter 2018.
