Well the Kancolle Winter 2018 event is over and I must say, compared to the last event which was a small scale event, this time brought me many many boat waifus, well more potatoes than anything but still more new boats nevertheless. It was quite a pain in the ass clearing this event, even on easy mode which is not the lowest difficulty, casual is the new noob level but it pretty much gives you nothing except for boat rewards. This is good for new players and when I think about it, I probably should have saved myself some trouble and cleared the last map E7 on casual as well. The only thing you get for E7 easy mode clear other than the featured prize boat is a medal, seriously? For that extra trouble I should have just dropped to casual but by the time I realized this was going to be another exercise in RNG again I was already at the final boss last dance. Fukkkk. Either way I still cleared it after like 20 or so runss….I finally switched to KC3 viewer and chrome extension and wow, shit is pretty amazing with all the features, boat dialog is even subbed! Wow. I like how it keeps all the run stats and history of clears and boat composition, this will make it a bit easier for me to figure out the Heroes of our Time from this event. But either way, there is alot of new boats this time and I had to expand my boat slots fuckk ahwell, hope the HTML5 version of this shit is better once they get around to rolling that out; I won’t have to complain about spending money on a flash game, but a WEB browser game insteadddd.
Z3
For some reason I was never able to get Z3, either from construction or drops. I have no idea but this time I got her, fucking finally, fuck. Another wonderful design by lord Shimada Humikane, creator of strike witches and just purely from her design, she certainly looks like she could be from that franchise. No pants? No problem, you will fit right in with strike witches girls. Great uniform, face, legs, loli body and hat. Another nice trophy destroyer that will probably never get kai2 or be of any use but whatever, you never know. Maybe one day. Great catch.
Tsushima
Ah, Tsushima another loli coastal defense boat DE with is pretty much useless other than for opening sub attack that I did not get in previous events as a drop. Well, this time I got her, didn’t farm for it, it just happened I guess. She is probably one of the better looking of the DE’s with very interesting hair color and eyes. Her pose is not bad sporting decent thighhighs with belt things and classic sailor uniform and cat. Good all round I guess, still shit for game, but will probably level this one up cause yea, why not.
Uranami
Wow, let’s begin the potato fest early. Uranami was one of the more recent Shibafu destroyers and I admit, she’s not as bad as some of his other shit destroyers. She has these anchor things which is certainly a change from the usual and it at least appears happy and decently proportionate. Fucking should have made her the main character of the boat anime, not fubuki. Either way the probability of me leveling this one up is low but because she is kind of rare, we’ll see. Maybe her stats will get gud, but I’m in no shortage of destroyers so yea, whatever.
Daitou
God damn Shibafu, seriously? You weren’t satisfied with drawing destroyers and now moved on to doing other DE’s? Whatever man, you do you. While a potato through and through, Shibafu has maybe taken a hint from lord Shimada Humikane with the whole no pants thing and made her a dress instead like Z3. Well, I suppose there is some points in the fact that she is holding what appears to be depth charges? Yea, at least it makes sense, DE’s = sub destroyers.
Hiburi
Fukkkkkk why Shibafu? Another DE? One that looks just like Daitou with slightly different hair and expression? Man, you gotta get your skills up man. Everything is pretty much the same as her sister I guess except with the slight perspective and angle change. The probably of me leveling up either of Shibafu’s DE’s is extremely low. Their time for scrap material will come soon enough.
Gambier Bay
Alright then, let’s get some more interesting designs on the way and get away from potatoes for a bit. Gambier Bay is the first American light carrier in kancolle and I think she’s all right. She’s no Iowa or Saratoga but you can certainly see many of the similar design patterns characteristic of the American boats in this game, most notably her thigh high stocks and shirt, which when she is damaged, looks a bit like Iowa. The artist is Akira, I think a new or guest artist which I have no idea about, I suppose we can’t always have lord Yoshinori or Humikane designing all the foreign best boats which I am later to find out. Either way I am not so sure about her default expression, her personality is a scared y cat so I guess it matches but yea, I don’t know how I would feel if my portrait is in a constant state of panic or fear. Still good overall, level for sure.
Jervis
To be honest I wasn’t particularly interested in Jervis at first, the first British destroyer to be added to the game but after hearing her speak I was all like HELL YES, IT’S KONGO AGAIN, Nao Touyama DOES MORE ENGLISH. THIS IS FUCKING LIKE Kiniro Mosaic Karen Kujo speaking with the same personality and everything. Good english lines, cute face, nice dress, happy pose and expression, what else is there to not love? The fact that it’s Nao Touyama and the character design done by Konishi again, the same guy who did the Kongo sisters and countless other good boats, what else is there to improve upon? Not much. Good shit, level up for sure, excellent design all round. Yadokari, has certainly gotten better at art and
Tashkent
After continually being somewhat disappointing with new Russian boats, I must say that Tashkent is probably the best designed one yet. Gangut was kinda shit for me but it was still ok, Tashkent on the other hand nails the Russian thing perfectly. Soviet destroyer? Check. Soviet hat? Check. Winter jacket over skirt? Check. Shawl that goes over it? Check. High boots? Check. White, black, red and blue color scheme? Check. Finger-less gloves? Check. She’s all there, everything about Tashkent was well thought out and executed perfectly. Her personality is cheerful but a bit cheeky and playful, which is at first coming from a Russian boat since her two predecessors were pretty much ice cold or full of fire and might. Excellent design and her stats are extremely good for not even being kai2, better even than some other shittier kai2 boats. Tashkent is a rare boat that you can only get from drops on E6 so I was very fortunate to get her, very lucky. Excellent destroyer with top stats and excellent design, level for sure.
Intrepid
Under normal circumstances the main event reward, the last map clear, E7 boss clear would provide me with the best shit from boat events. In the past this was how you got Iowa, Saratoga, Prinz, Warspite, Ark Royal, Roma and countless other excellent top tier rare event only shit. Well this time, people got really hyped for this event’s prize when it was announced it would be the USS Intrepid, another American carrier and probably one of the most famous ones at that since she was given the Iowa treatment after she was retired from service and made into a war museum, which currently is stationed in New York’s harbor. With high hopes everyone expected another beautiful waifu from either lord Yoshinori or Humikane…but oh boy were we all wrong and got trolled hard…
GOD DAMN IT SHIBAFU. WHY AGAIN. YOU MOTHERFUCKER. WHY.
I swear, I think Shibafu is one of the only official kancolle artists that has actually gotten WORSE at drawing and character design as time goes by. Like, Kaga and Akagi were alright, probably his best shit ever was Kaga, she had just enough generic potato face and cool-dere unique look/hair for people to use their imagination and give her huge boobs and shit for fanart so that smoothed over his poor design. But man, there is no escaping this one, sure Intrepid has implied huge boobs but that face, that gawd awful face of a lowly loli destroyer with a body that seems almost too big and bulky (fat) for her. It just doesn’t match at all. The design itself is decent but I question greatly the lifesaver thing around her neck, it just looks like a thing you would use to go to sleep when you are in the back of a car. Fuck. The rifle is cool too but Saratoga had a MACHINE GUN. AWWWman, what a lost opportunity. Sad. Level up for sure cause OP stats but man, SHIBAFU get your shit together. I dunno maybe the fanart of her will be much better.
Akitsushima
After getting Intrepid and being disappointing along with all the other admirals around the world I decided to try my luck at farming. One of the most important boats which until now has eluded me was Akitsushima, the very very cute Seaplane Tender designed by lord Yoshinori. After a couple of days casual farming on E2 she manged to drop for me and as such there was much rejoicing. Why did I farm and want Akitsushima so badly? Because fucking gameplay and cute bitch, that’s why. Aside from being extremely cute, do you see that shit that she is holding? It’s a plane, a seaplane, that shit is called a Type 2 Large Flying Boat. If I am to continue and survive any further in the future of this grind fest simulation of a game I FUCKING NEED THAT PLANE. WHY? Because Land Base Air Support, that’s why. If there’s one that that has apparently become clear out of this event, it’s that shit is only going to get more historical with even more crazy requirements and fleet locking compositions. Land Base Air Support is one of the few mechanics that I can kinda rely on to do map bombings for boss damage. However, in this event almost all the bosses couldn’t be reached unless you had a Type 2 Large Flying Boat assigned to the squadron. Yea, for a good portion of the maps I had to settle with bombing pre-boss nodes because all my bombing planes couldn’t real the boss node, fuck, no doubt causing me to waste more runs and time had they actually could make it. In any regards, I am very happy that i was able to finally get Akitsushima and her wonderful white hair, thigh high socks, white and green dress and cheerful smile, yes, yes, you are the real prize from this event, at least for me.
