Summer Trip 2026 – Day 2

Today we embark on our next journey, our Disney Cruise to Alaska. I am not sure what to expect from this but hopefully it will be good. I’ve never been on a cruise before so I hope things go smoothly. Let’s see how this long day went.

Checking out of the hotel was no issue and it was a very close walk to port where we are supposed to check in to the cruise, like literally 5-10 min walk, noice.

At the very heart of the waterfront is where you board boats and our Disney cruise today. Funny how for the past couple of days we have also been coming here as the Vancouver convention center is also right beside this place.

Looks like alot of people dis-boarding and on-boarding onto the new boat, this area is always busy it seems.

And here it is, the Disney Wonder cruise ship which I am not sure when was built but has been around for awhile in the background.

From what I understand some of these boats are built from the ground up to meet Disney specs and requirements while some other ones are brought previously owned and are renamed and refurbished to meet Disney standards.

This one was built from the grand up, not repurposed from another cruise liner from my understanding.

Nearby the port can also have two cruise ships docked for passengers. This other one was called the Azamara, which I am not sure who owns it or where it’s going. The demographic it seems to be from the boarding terminal is that it’s targeted towards elder seniors but who knows.

Proof of walking around the port existence.

When the time came to broad we entered the port terminal and were triaged for the Disney passengers from the others, as they have their own system. We were supposed to board at 11:45am but after we got to the check in counter, they stopped us for further inspection because my sister had written that I had a cough for a while in the medical clearance disclaimer. Fuck.

So they took us to some other area for a few minutes untill some women came to us with a phone with the boat’s head nurse on it, asking how long I had the cough for, she said for a few days now and the nurse said sure fine your good to board anyway. I guess I was never sick really, since it’s just a cough and flem, I feel fine otherwise. Anyway we were allowed to continued after being slightly rattled, worst case scenario is that I would not be allowed on board.

After going through some airport like security for bag checks we get to this spot where you are supposed to wait for your turn, but because of our delay we were allowed to go through instantly. We checked in our luggage to the board earlier so yea, they will handle that.

Oh boi to the ship.

Walking the bridge thing to get on the boat.

We did it, we got on the boat successfully. Yas. When you enter they all exclaim “Welcome, Eng family” or some shit, well it’s Disney after all so they want your experience to be good and personal, kinda jokes to me tho.

Proof of boat existence. I am not sick, just an occasional cough and flem, and if I was sick, it’s on it’s way out.

This entire majority of the trip, the cruise part I mainly let me sister and mom do most of the planning and decision making, my brain is in cruise control auto pilot mode now so I just follow them where ever now. I believe they are asking some of the food place managers to book new times for brunch and other rotational dining stuff. I have no idea but it’s needed I guess. They are successful.

The boat has lots of floors with all kinds of different shit on them, they remind you everywhere with tons of signage and displays even in elevators.

Our “stateroom” as they call it is not ready yet so all people are more or less asked to just chill onboard until then. Probably the majority however go and have brunch/lunch buffet at this place to get some eats.

Pretty busy indeed here, with lots of groups and families eating good shit.

Lots of little kids around to as you can imagine but funnily enough lots of elderly too, some in wheelchairs and walkers. I guess Disney shit transcends ages.

The majority of the kitchen statff preparing foods or serving us are either Filipino or Mexican, or at least south American, which is interesting but not surprising.

Their assortment isn’t exactly Vegas variety but considering it’s free part of the cruise cost you can’t really complain. They have lots of meat and seafood fish and other pasta shit for everyone.

They even have steamship roasts and even roast turkey which is kinda odd but sure.

Boat ain’t moving yet but the view is nice, this is on the 9th floor I believe so pretty high up to have nice views looking outside.

My first place is an assortment of lamb chops chicken tenders, mac and cheese, turkey, steamship and steak. All of the meats were kinda mid dry except the lamb and chicken tenders, lamb was the best meat available for this buffet today however. The salmon and fried cod were also plain/tasteless/dry. What can you expect from free buffet I guess when you first board.

Second and last round, more lamb, chicken tenders and more carbs, all good shit. I saw a few people just take entire plates of just chicken tenders and fries which is kinda eh. For kids I think but still, apparently these chicken tenders are very popular. They also had cold crab but I couldn’t be bothered, too much work man.

Some dessert, fruit and some apple crumble thing and some pecan pie mini thing. Ok I guess, the apple thing, the pecan thing too sweet.

By the time we finished our lunch, I think our room would be ready by now, they said by like 1:30pm or so so we decided to see how it was. Walking to get to our room is pretty long, there are thousands of other people on this boat so finding your room can be a bit repetitive, confusing.

Looks like our room is ready, with on the door our three keycards ready to open it.

Disney calls these the “Keys to the world” card and are used to do everything on the ship. Open your room, pay for merch, check your identity, book restaurants, connect to internet and events etc. Hmm..

Toilet and shower are separate rooms which is interesting, looks ok for a boat room after all.

Looks pretty solid I think. The couch can be turned into a bad and the wall can be pulled down to create a bunk bed thing from what I understand. I didn’t quite understand it at the time but it makes sense, this room can take up to 4 people maybe 5 with a small kid.

There is hardly enough room to put our luggage yet, which hasn’t arrived yet but we’ll deal with that when the time comes.

Looking out from our window, looks alright. I think you can get richer with a proper balcony but nah, we went with the cheaper options. Not the cheapest however, which don’t even have port holes to look out from.

My sister explained to me that Disney cruises is a way of life and has it’s own culture. For instance people like to decorate their doors and shit and do something called “Pixie dusting” where you randomly give little trinkets or things to ship neighbors for fun and exchange other gifts because why not, it’s magic fun I guess?. It seems crazy to me but apparently this has been going on for a long time, and is a thing that longtime Disney cruise advocates do. There are a lot of doors similar to this with gifts you can take and give to other rooms wow.

The boat is quite big with many levels, lots of maps like this everywhere to help passengers find there way.

Outside the 9th floor is the main outside area where they sometimes have shows and shit, there is also a pool and some more unlimited food options for others outside of the buffet.

Still locked at port but yea, nice chairs to chill once moving.

In this outdoor party space there are a few places for extra paid drinks but also a unlimited pizza option too.

Pizza looks extremely mid but what do you expect, for the kids and in a rush I guess.

Every Disney cruise also has unlimited free self serve soft serve ice cream, which lots of people were already taking advantage of.

Looking pretty good job of pulling that lever if I do say so myself.

Unlimited burger option space too and hotdogs. I don’t know if they are good burgers but they are always there as long as the deck is operational I think.

Crazy ass water slides and shit. Some people in the pool and shit already? They do know that this cruise is going to Alaska right? Shit gets cold, even in summer.

Unlimited self serve soft drinks and coffee/hot chocolate. Cool.

On another level hey have several theatres running showing disney movies such as Toy Story 5 and other recent failures like Live action Moana and the the little mermaid live action.

They also have some star wars and others too, no marvel unfortunately this time in the cruise. I was hoping the new spider man was available here but it was not, too bad.

My sister and mom getting enticed by a popcorn bucket, they brought it yea.

The ship main lobby is very pretty and fancy, looks suitable I say.

On one floor they have several merch stores for the cruise. They only operate at sea and not when in port so yea, they all closed now.

If there is one thing that Disney is really good at is making merch that people will buy from cruises like this.

In the same area is the main theater were live shows are performed, cool.

Still docked but the convention is looking pretty nice today on deck.

On the 4th or 5th floor I think the deck is a full circle and you can actually run around it in a lopp, there is signs saying that 3 laps around the deck is 1 mile, hmm.

On the end of the deck there is some heavy equipment which I assume is for anchor or engine shit.

There are some pubs and late night lounges for adults who just want to chill too, like this British pub themed one.

Pretty British indeed, even tho they were not opened yet.

My sister says that when all the food places close late night, you come here and they have emergency food you can get, hmm. nothing here yet.

They have alot of seminar or game rooms for events, like name that tune or Disney trivia ship where you win prizes and pride/a gold medal for rea.

Going back to check on our room and there are so many doors decorated ready for pixie gifting and shit.

Wow, never thought I see something like this.

In a way it’s like trick or treat or ghetto xmas gifting with random Disney fans/strangers on the same boat. Hmm.

Isn’t this door kinda odd? The Alaska cruise hasn’t even begun yet and they have stickers and shit already as if it was completed already? hmm.

At 4pm there is a mandatory meeting for certain stateroom guests, for like safety and in case of emergency at the main feature hall.

They have you check in with your card to ensue you are there, hmm.

It’s just a big meeting to tell you what to do if the ship sinks and shit and in case of emergency like Titanic so that jack doesn’t die wastefully.

I return alone back to the room to check again and our luggage has finally arrived, I bring them inside and rest a bit. When I head out again the guy who is in charge of your room maintenance is in the area and says, “Hi Matthew, is there anything I can do for your room today? I am the one who will be cleaning and stuff.” I asked about the bed and shit and yea, told him to set it up. I left before I saw him do that so we’ll see later.

I stayed back in the room for a bit to check on and upload photos for this post using still my koodo mobile data before the boat starts moving and it doesn’t work anymore but once that was done I headed to the store floor to see what my sister and mom have been shopping for.

When I arrived there was lines to get into the stores which is kinda surprising but sure. It was quite busy and they were there for like at least 45 min at least looking and buying shit with long checkout lines, slow process buy what can you do.

I stepped out a bit on that floor to chill on the deck, looking pretty cool man, nice waves and mountain and shit, boat moving so lets go.

Back in the store area there is alots of little girls and kids dressed up as princesses and shit. If your kid likes this kind of thing, I think it may be worth considering going on a Disney cruise day, as there is actually a ton of activities and rooms/spaces just for kids.

On another level the jewelry store were giving away free charms shaped like the boat itself and running a raffle for free jewelry, of course we got that shit.

After some waiting, the store asked everyone with a ticket to put in inside here for a raffle draw so they can draw prizes, there were like 4 prizes but in the end we did not win anything. One family ended up winning two prizes so what the hell lol good luck or rigged.

They were having the set sail party show on the outside of the 9th deck. It’s like singing and dancing shit with Micky and friends and other performers on the big screen. Lots of people here.

After about 15 min the stage just said, gather all your kids to the front and lets have a party and the performers danced with them in the crowd. Ultimate white girl classic songs like “Shake it” by Miley Cyrus and some other ones were sung to much rejoice by the crowd.

When we returned to our room, they left some towel bear animal, cool. This is apparently a thing they do in disney cruises for the room keepers. Nice.

I forgot to ask our roomkeeper to pull down the couch bed but he was also in the area still so he heard us and helped us with this nice new config. Cool, now nobody has to share a bed, noice.

After resting for a bit it was time for our first rotational dinning experience at Tiana’s, which is the name of the Frog Princess main girl. Hmm.

The entire space is supposed to be like new orleans creole kinda thing from back in the day and yea it looks like it sure.

Proof of dinning experience, Tiana the first.

Proof of first rotational dining experience the first, point up edition.

They gave us bread and some garlic onion cream sauce to spread on the bread, it was good shit.

This place is the only one with live music and performers doing their thing which is nice but very loud. Don’t expect to have a quiet conversation in this dinner space.

Baller guys doing their shit.

At rotational dining you order from a menu but you can technically order multiple or several things at once, it’s also unlimited just up to you. This is some shrimp gumbo/soup my mom got.

My sister and myself got shrimp and girts as a app, pretty good shit.

The main performer/Tiana also walks around the tries to talk and engage with diners but due to the loud nature and people hungry, most kinda ignore her, unless with small kids.

Alligator from the movie also shows up to do some stupid shit, I had no idea what was going on, too busy eating.

Can’t remember what this was but it’s like rice and sausage fried, like Italian arracnhini but not, but creole flavors, I thought it was pretty good.

My sister got some tune tartare, says it was good.

I ordered two mains because I am a fat ass and why not. This is like pork tenderloin with gumbo like sauce and rice. I shared like half of this also with my mom and sister and honestly it’s kinda shit, not worth as a main dish.

I knew that might happen hence I also ordered a sirloin steak. It was solid and well cooked, tender but not the best steak i’ve had, it was far better than the steak and beef meat I had at today’s buffet however so that’s that.

My sister’s prime roast rib, said it was excellent.

My mom’s lobster salad, good she said but the dressing is too acidic, vinegar.

My dessert, I can’t remember but it was berry something, it was alright.

Chocolate cake brownie thing I think with cream for my sister’s dessert.

I have no idea what this was but it was my mom’s. By the end of our meal the wait staff really were trying to get us to leave because it was the last service of the night, it was already past 10pm so yea I can understand that but you shouldn’t rush your guest and shit man, just wait, kinda hard.

Our mom headed back to our room since tired but we decided to explore the shit a bit more after hours.

Looks like goofy and other characters were available for photo ops huh. ok.

Back outside in the deck it’s really cool to see the water and past sunset.

Very nice cool views of the coast and sky/water.

Proof of outside dark watching stuff scenery existence.

My sister and myself also walked around on the deck and decided to lay down a bit on the lawn chairs. It was cool until my sister got bit buy a big a couple of times and said fuck it, lets go back inside lol. Bad luck I guess, nice amazing cool views tho at this time.

They have a mini version of this being sold in the store as a sovineir. Ugly in my opinion but whatever.

Some places only open at night like this bar/lounge for adults, nice theme.

While some others have emergency pub food ready because everything else is closed on the ship. Wow.

I’m sure it’s very mid but you gotta do what you gotta do if you somehow missed your rotational dining session or didn’t pick up an unlimited burger before the station closes, noice backup.

And that ends our first day of this Disney Alaska Cruise, so far it’s pretty cool and all new for me but we’ll see how things go. Right now I had to buy internet via satellite access via their Disney app to complete this post but it’s costly, $27 per 24/h. I am not sure if i’ll do it everyday and maybe try to backpost posts in order to save money but knowing me, I’ll end up just paying for all of it perhaps, ah-well, let’s see.
